  1. Nothing is ever the result of a single effect, invariably an accumulation. It should be remembered that in the 30s, Chinese nationals accounted for about 12% of Thailand's population. My father in law was first generation Chinese, died in 2011, he and his family and friends were very much into the Chinese tradition and still had contact with family in China. Not far from us there is a Chinese graveyard that stretches for as far as the eye can see and at the time of the main Chinese festivals it would turn into a canvas city with a multitude coming from the mother country to pay their respects. These days only a fraction appear at festival time and probably from within Thailand. Over the years my father in laws generation have mainly passed away leaving the second generation Chinese. Although still into the traditions it is not to the same extent as previously. It is inevitable that as time passes the conection between the Thai-Chinese and the motherland will fade, reducing visitation on a family basis.
  2. Net migration is not a figure, it is an equation and the government is so narrow minded they only focus on one side of the equation. If overseas retirement was made more attractive net migration would fall. Sad state of affairs when the hypocrites with gold plated pensions cannot see past the end of their nose.
  3. Banks world wide are changing their ways and have been for some years. Some changes seem to bother some more than others. Getting hot under the collar over transfer limitations seem a bit petty compared to things like FATCA and CRS.
  4. Of course there were going to be doubts, backs were up against the wall and insufficient time available for comprehensive testing, it was always going to be a pecentage basis. As I already said it was all about managing the risk factor and decisions had to be made, and that applied as much to individuals. I personally stuck to the traditional vaccine from AZ rather than the new approach with mnra. The pandemic caused nearly a quarter of a million deaths in the UK, and despite what you think, if people started dying again in the same numbers people would be rushing around trying to get vaccinated. Mutation has probably reduced the need to some extent for healthy people to be vaccinated but there are many at risk, just as they are from flu. Heaven forbid that mutation changes direction, but if it does I know which way I will jump, but feel free to take your chances. Just don't make out it is the only choice.
  5. The arguments are getting more and more stupid. It may come as a surprise to you, but people can die for all sorts of reasons, not just from vaccines. It is all about managing the risk factor. Any more of this rubbish and some will be jumping out the window. Please tell, is it more dangerous to have a vaccination or drive in Thailand? Answers on a postcard.
  6. We are all perfectly aware that more people die in hospitals than any where else, so why are the waiting lists so long. "Truth" is what you make it, but people need medical practioners more than they need people. Maybe one day you will grow up and acknowledge the reality.
  7. Quite. A friend of mine married a particularly attractive bargirl, and there is a relationship between looks and numbers. Turned out she had been damaged internally and couldn't have children, well not any more, the ones he didn't know about were being cared for by relatives. Marriage didn't last very long.
  8. The sceptics don't want to know about that. I get messages on a regular basis from the NHS that because of my age I should get this and that. Have usually managed to get what they suggest here. Those that continually ridicule medical advice quickly change their mind when wheeled into hospital.
  9. Sounds like you are referring to IQ, unfortunately no booster available.
  10. That is not the case. the income letters were available to anyone requiring proof of income. Many were on retirement extensions without any Thai relatives.
  11. I am fairly sure there is no requirement for a birth certificate if claiming the state pension in the UK, often done over the phone, I think only physically required for overseas claims. From what I gather the OP would have his pension long before coming to Thailand.
  12. I was one of the first to try renewal after they moved overseas renewals from the FCO to HMPO back in 2014. It was an utter shambles and I started to get concerned that there would be no passport by the time I became an illegal. I contacted the Embassy and they were extremely helpful and intervened, passport back with a couple of days to spare. I can understand your frustration and it wouldn't do any harm to get in touch with them. BTW When mine came up for renewal last year I wasn't prepared to run any risk and went back to do the renewal. Appreciate not really applicable for you now.
  13. My mother died quite young at 49 in 1976 and a few years ago I was told that I had a half brother. Not taking anything at face value I went online and initially obtained a copy of my mother's birth certificate and from that a copy of the original birth certificate of my half brother, he had been adopted at birth. I met up with him a couple of years later and he had different birth certificate that did not show my mother's name and a bit surprised to see the original, coincidently from 1946. It was all relatively easy.
  14. It is Wise guidance, if you believe it to be incorrect then put them right. Personally I have always used HSBC.
  15. Indeed, the letter came from the Embassy's Consular Section. However the notice issued by immigration when it first came about referred to "Embassies". As for your second point, strikes me the Thais decided it would be better to see the income appearing in the bank.
  16. It was headline news in the UK some days ago as this variant was confirmed in England. Thailand was listed as one of the main hotspots, alongside everyones favourite nation.
  17. I got caught out so went to to HCMC and got a 12 month ME. Along came covid and I couldn't leave the country, fortunately the auto extensions went on long enough to get the 12 months in place for extension. The visa still had about 5 months to run, but nowhere to run to. The other aspect was that with income changing from gross to net it was a change to marriage extension, although at the time that wasn't such a bad move.
  18. Taking the paragraphs in isolation is what changed the context. If you didn't understand the first paragraph then you should have not responded.
  19. i have the android app and the web app for my HSBC account in the UK. To access the web app I have to get a security code from the phone app. Not a bad arrangement and should be fairly simple. The problem is that to get into the phone app I have to reboot the phone, and before anyone says, it has nothing to do with updates. However any non update related suggestion would be appreciated, other than getting a new phone, which I suspect the bank would say.
  20. You have truncated the post, changed the context and answered a question that wasn't asked. The poster was referring to the android emulator so was referring to the use of the android app on 2 different devices.
  21. Before the days of smartphones, computer applications were often known as programs or executables(exe). Now they should be referred to as web apps as opposed to phone apps. It is the web apps that the banks are discontinuing. My bank did it a couple of years ago, a right pain in the neck, had to get a new phone as android wasn't high enough version. With fingers like cow's udders I don't like phones much anyway. It is wrong that modern technology can push people where they don't want to go.
  22. A friend of mine did it a few years back and I believe the concession on import duty for returning Thais is subject to having lived outside the country for a certain period of time. Can't remember the time, could be a year. Just going in and out may not be enough, what you may need is proof of residence somewhere else.
  23. It is a bank issue, not a general requirement. If you look in the guidance there is a list of banks where no transfer can be made. The maximum amount that you can send per transfer depends on the recipient's bank. Recipient bank Maximum per transfer (THB) Bangkok Bank Public Company 2,000,000 Kasikorn Bank 2,000,000 Siam Commercial Bank 1,499,999 Other recipient banks 500,000 https://wise.com/help/articles/2932335/guide-to-thb-transfers
  24. I am well aware of that. What is not clear is what each embassy asks people to provide, or what each embassy was asked to verify. I know what the UK government accepted for income and I can see that from the Thai point of view as being inadequate. If embassies insisted, and some may well do, on a document like the UK P60 then I don't see there would be a problem providing the letter.
  25. That is not necessarily the case. I came back on a new passport and just moved the TM30 myself, not a problem. Done a couple of extensions and a few 90 days since then. The first one I did in person as the online wouldn't allow it. Had the same TM30 since 2015 and every visit expect it to be challenged, getting a bit worn.
