  1. Just a heads up for those using the Sri Ratcha office that from 23 Dec 2024 it will be moving to a new location. It is to the north of Sri Ratcha on the left towards the sea, shortly after the new Central building. When we passed the turning on Thursday there were no signs up as yet. Link will probably show as restaurant, Google not aware yet. https://maps.app.goo.gl/fUr4Vf9nMKVVr3vg8
  2. If the payment is processed via Bahtnet, it can only be done when Bahtnet is online, think the time is 08.30 till 5.30pm Mon - Fri. BAHTNET (Bank of Thailand Automated High-value Transfer Network) is a financial infrastructure serving for Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) of large value funds transfer between financial institutions or other organizations maintaining deposit accounts at the Bank of Thailand (BOT) https://www.bot.or.th/th/our-roles/payment-systems/Payment-systems.html
  3. I have been transferring with HSBC for about 20 years, early doors it was £25 to do it in branch and £17 online. About 2012 the online fee dropped to £4. When Wise came along I crossed checked every transfer I made against Wise for over 6 months and found little difference so just stuck with HSBC, although they have now pushed the fee up to £5. I usually do the transfer in the afternoon here and funds in account by mid day following day.
  4. I have made payments to Canada regularly for several years and they have always taken 3 days, maybe Thai banks, rather than Wise, are changing their ways.
  5. OK , I missed that bit and please accept what I said previously.
  6. You asked the question - "What province was that? " I don't know the ins and outs but there seems to be a consensus that online reports are dealt with by your local office. Last April I did an online report and had approval in 2 minutes, had to be automated, far too fast for human intervention. At the same time others were complaining about waiting days on end, go figure.
  7. The OP could return on a new SE visa which would take him into March and then do a 12 month extension. Not much difference between new extension and renewal. With a new visa, re-entry would be a moot point.
  8. "as a non-UK resident for tax" An assuption, as far as I can see he never said that, only that he didn't pay tax, a different matter. As a UK national he would be UK tax resident by default and remain so unless steps were taken to change that. Becoming tax resident in Thailand does not automatically remove tax residency in another jurisdiction. You have my apology if I missed something.
  9. Not really, the majority will have put their NI into workplace/private pensions and be relatively well off. Very few that are subject to the full force of the UK government discrimination will consider moving.
  10. Your words, in response to the OP and which are presumptious. "Strictly speaking as a non-UK resident for tax you should not declare you are in order to open a new account"
  11. You can be tax resident in more than one jurisdiction.
  12. The query is because you are asking for a savings account. You can say you are UK tax resident, many UK tax residents do not pay any tax. If the amount of interest earned reaches a certain level the bank will be obliged to inform HMRC, who will in turn then ask you to pay the tax. They may well decline the application for other tax residencies. I had the same with HSBC, only confirmation was required not numbers or anything.
  13. The map is required for the driver doing the home visit, so would be from immigration to your residence. Different offices, different requirements, even on different days. Ours started to accept a google print but then went back to hand drawn, nearest main road to the house. Wife just did it there and then.
  14. There is nothing to be lost in making an application. There could be issues that arise that cannot be addressed in the timeframe. I do not have children but do not really see that they would be required for a marriage based extension. The grey area is income, I have only done income from outside the country and that required a 12 month statement showing monthly income so I would imagine something similar supported by evidence from employer. Bank documents need to be obtained day of going to immigration. Other sticking points can be KR2 and witnesses. The KR 2 should be recent and can be obtained at any amphur and does not take very long. You should check with immigration regarding witnesses. I am in Chonburi and all we need do is take copies of ID and housebook for 2 people but you may be required to have them go in person. You need to bear in mind the extension is not granted immediately, there is a 30 day waiting period during which you will most likely have a home visit which will require both you and your wife, and possibly the children. If you cannot get the extension in the timeframe you should ask immigration if it is possible to convert visa exempt to Non O using Thai income, I do not see why not but others will say it cannot be done. That may determine Plan B, you may well have to get another SE Non O visa outside the country.
  15. Not the point - Thread title is taken from the OP "Bemjamin Hart, naturalized Thai citizen and managing director of Integrity Legal, claims in a new video that typical expats will not be impacted by the Thai Revenue Department’s recent announcements." For some reason many on this thread want to redefine "typical expat" in their own image. Bottom line is he right or not in respect of "typical expats", which would exclude anyone trading or engaged in any other financial activity. What non- typical expats are required to do doesn't come into it. Of course people are free to believe that he was in fact referring to those with some form of financial activity to be "typical".
  16. I don't think that is entirely true. I have been with Midland/HSBC over 30 years, issue only arose when I asked for a particular type of account and they knew I was in Thailand. Bit the same with Wise other than not being with them very long, only came up when I opened a particular type of account.
  17. Thanks, but no real problem. I know it is easily done but don't know why.
  18. So in your opinion the point made by the OP can be distorted if one chooses to do so.
  19. A Home Office spokesperson said: “The Home Office has paused decisions on Syrian asylum claims whilst we assess the current situation. We keep all country guidance relating to asylum claims under constant review so we can respond to emerging issues.” https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/syrian-asylum-claims-paused-uk-assad-b2661432.html?lid=kz3dowsvmrrh&utm_medium=email&utm_source=braze&utm_campaign=Morning Headlines Newsletter 10-12-2024&utm_term=IND_Headlines_Masterlist_CDP&empar=3ecb0a14961159ae2d4bc396450ec9796a1489f400e007e352cda343bc7b577c
  20. You could be right that it is nerve related but as has been said you should go to hospital as soon as possible. My ex wife had pain in left shoulder and eventually went to hospital, nurse was a bit concerned and put her on machine, not long after she had a heart attack.
  21. Statements like that are distorting the thread. I would think that "most" expats as referred to in the OP do not have trading accounts or partaking in any active business. Those engaged in activities that have always necessitated the need for a tax return should refrain from muddying the waters.
  22. A distortion of what I said, thought it was quite clear I was referring to new accounts with onshore UK banks requiring confirmation of UK tax residency, rather than a number. That would not in keeping with post I replied to had implied. I have seen no evidence to indicate UK banks require a TIN to open a standard account, normally photo ID and utility bill. As far as I am aware confirmation of tax residency is only required for certain types of account.
  23. You should be careful how you post , the quote you referred to didn't come from me.
  24. That would only come from someone with the falang mentality.
