Dual Pricing in Thai Tourism: Economic Necessity or Hidden Bias?
sandyf replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As a foreigner, myself and 2 others got into the War museum in Ottawa free of charge while Canadians were having to pay full price - should that be illegal In the UK old people can use the buses free of charge - should that be illegal. Dual pricing is a common practice worldwide, the main problem with the Thai arrangement is the inconsistancy and degree of differential. -
I don't know where you got the first sentence from, not the UK. With 2 separate banks I was asked to confirm where I paid tax but no number required. I would agree with last statement, those that would need to pay tax should know and do what should always have been done. Those that wouldn't need to pay tax should wait for further clarification. I cannot see the RD putting work into chasing returns where there is nothing, or very little, to be gained. In due course we may see something like the HMRC guidance on if a return is required.

What’s Better: Cisgender or Transgender Thai Women?
sandyf replied to 123Stodg's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
"The redefinition of gender is a social construct" - wrong, a change of legal entity. As a scientist you should be ware that you cannot make up your own unsubstantiated definitions. Neither have I stated any opinion for you to respect, only facts. What you rally mean is your bigotry will prevail. -
What’s Better: Cisgender or Transgender Thai Women?
sandyf replied to 123Stodg's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
X and Y are sex chromosomes, females are defined by X and X, males are defined by X and Y. Man and Woman are terms for gender and not defined by chromosomes. Gender is normally defined by genitalia at birth but it can be reassigned. Of course you are perfectly free to disagree with the medical profession. Sweden became the first country in the world to allow transgender people to change their legal gender after "reassignment surgery" and provide free hormone treatment, in 1972.[1] Singapore followed soon after in 1973, being the first in Asia.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender-affirming_surgery -
Yes if you travel first class, cabins are 2 berth but you can have single occupancy for about an extra 50%. In second class it is curtain partioning so whole carriage the same.
-
Not in BKK, about 5 & half hours driving from here. Used to get minibus to HL for train, bit more awkward now at Grand Central. If only 50%, would need to bear that in mind if we go, thanks.
-
Would P'lok be 60% of BKK to CM? I have a friend there and have thought about going up on the train. What has put me off so far is that it gets in about 4 in the morning. Been a few times in the car but wife doesn't want to drive that far any more.

A bit of misconception there. The prefix "trans" means to cross, and transgender women are those that have crossed the gender divide with gender reassignment surgery. Man & Woman are terms for gender, as opposed to male and female which relate to the sex of the individual and cannot be changed. Those that dress up or take hormones are something else, ladyboys, chicks with dxks, transvestites, cross dressers, call them what you want. -
This may explain it ADVANCE TICKETS: Starting from 1st July 2024, you can buy train tickets 180 days in advance for all long distance Special Express, Express and Rapid trains. However, you must be travelling at least 60% of the entire route to book 180 days in advance. If it is between 25% and 59% of the entire route, then you can book 30 days in advance. Less than 25% of the route, you can only buy one day in advance. https://www.thaitrainguide.com/tickets/

Didn't your OP say you could book at the station.? More than 30 days till February. ""yes you can book it, but need copies of both the passenger's passports, " Passports/ID cards are standard requirement at a station.

You are wrong, Real Debrid only closed down for a day, still working perfectly well, or it was a few hours ago. Some addons are not working with Real Debrid, I found that FEN and Seren stopped working but The Crew was ok. I have changed to Umbrella which has just been configured to work with Real Debrid. I have been using Kodi some years and had terrible buffering problems when on ADSL. When fiber came along that made a tremendous improvement but came to realise the file size was a significant factor as well as the download speed, which can be a bit difficult to establish with certainty. With testmy.net I usually get between 70 and 100 Mbps and if I stick to files less than 2GB I don't have a problem. If I do want to watch something larger, I would download it first and then watch, otherwise you run the risk of a "source too slow" message.

We have booked many trains around Thailand over the years and at the local railway station it has always been that tickets were only available up to 60 days in advance. We usually wanted first class and as they were in short supply it meant going at 60 days for outbound and then back a few days later for the return journey. Policy may have changed but wouldn't be out of the question for some stations to still be as it was. If you used 1 2 Go Asia, they would take bookings at any time, but their office was in the station and they just bought the tickets when they became available.

AOT confirms facial recognition for international flights
sandyf replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Good deflection, but your implication was more than obvious. -
You are quite right. I returned from UK on 31st May 2023 on re-entry permit and then did a 90 day online on 15th Aug 2023. I have mentioned that a few times when some say it couldn't be done. As I mentioned in a previous post I was rejected this year following a trip to the UK, I believe a change in policy.

It may come as a surprise to you but immigration management and airport management have completely different objectives. -
It is entirely up to you how "straight away" you have to provide any information. I go to a govt hospital and there is no "they" involved, you do it yourself and hand in the printout. If your appointment is with internal medicine and go into the waiting room with a BP over 150 the nurse will wheel over her machine and do another test just before you are called in to see the doctor. When i was seeing the plastic surgeon for skin cancer on my ear BP often in the 150s but he wasn't particularly bothered, horses for courses.

‘Wife for hire’: Inside Thailand’s shocking rental marriage trend
sandyf replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Fairly obvious how you have spent your time in Thailand, creating a blinkered view with everything under the same umbrella, completely ignoring what was said. The OP is about temporary relationships, dating apps in a nutshell, but according to you they are only "prostitution apps" in Thailand. That falang mentality again. Prostitutes date back centuries but it was the western prudes that attached a stigma. In biblical times goods were often used in payment for sexual favours, not much different to the ways in many countries. -

Nothing trendy about the name. It nothing more than the ignorance of some to put them all alongside rent boys. There is no dispute that Thailand has, like every other country, many involved in prostitution, but there is also a great number of girls just trying to escape poverty. A foreign husband is a fairly common way out and bar scene was little more than the origin of "dating apps", now widely used in the west. In the UK, Wetherspoons have a "try before you buy" arrangement on real ale, nothing wrong with tourists taking a similar approach. -

In every country. Surprised you are not aware that very little in this life is ever free. The "headache syndrome" is nothing more than prostitution in disguise. -
AOT confirms facial recognition for international flights
sandyf replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The OP is not referring to E-gates, they have been in use in departures for a while and working quite well so far. I used one to leave in Sept. You have to bear in mind you arrive as a foreigner which requires a visa status check. The first arrival E-gates for foreigners are supposed to come with ETA. -

Indeed. Check in procedures are being revised all over. I came back from Gatwick in June with Emirates and things were as they had been for some time. When I came back about a month ago all different, well for economy, all the desks were self service. I said to the guy hanging about that i had checked in online but had no boarding card, he just sent me to one of the other desks where there was no queue. I used to print off the boarding card but they always gave me another so I stopped doing it. Won't bother again if it means hassle free at a business class desk. I don't think the OP has anything to do with immigration, facial recognition is already in place with the E-gates, if they can't be used it is manual facial recognition at the counter.
