I think you are referring to the Carson case which actually started in 2002, with final judgement in 2010. The item you mention, Article 14 was actually dismissed on the basis it had not been brought before a domestic court. The main argument surrounded the right to an uprated pension and the court found that did not constitute a "human right". The government has claimed the frozen pension policy has been supported by the courts, but that is misleading. The court decision was against the claimants case, it did not mean the government was not guilty of discrimination under current equality legislation. In the final summation one of the judges made the following statement which the government has quoted quite regularly. "Unlike private pension schemes, National Insurance contributions had no exclusive link to retirement pensions." That is a distorted statement as the "Retirement Pension" is what many will be entitled to under the National Insurance Act of 1959/60. How exclusive a link is required. If there were no exclusive link, then everyone would be paid the same and that is certainly not the case.

A common misunderstanding is people thinking the "state pensions" are funded from income tax. There is no such thing as the "state pension" it is a collective term for various pension payments. The Retirement Pension was funded by NI contributions as specified in the 1946 National Insurance Act, only the shortfall in contributions is funded from income tax.

One of the greatest acts of discrmination perpetrated by the UK government was "contracting out". Parliament passed an arrangement that benefitted them and only part of the UK population. Under the scheme, the government allowed the "select" to put part of their NI contributions into an occupational/private pension scheme. In 1989 they even bribed some to contract out. Those that could do so, now get the returns from that part of their NI index liked globally. Those not allowed to contract out had to remain in the government second state pension and then be faced with it being frozen in certain jurisdictions.

Spoken like a true government official. The legislation that denies the uprating of state pensions applies to everyone absent from the UK. The government has created exemptions from the law which amounts to discrimination, something that cannot have a value attached. The real problem stems from a lack of political will and a lack of of public support, unlike the WASPI women, frozen pensioners have no cohesive domestic voice. Legislation is not cast in stone and does not always keep up with evolution, discrimitory legislation is much younger than the state pensions. Historical precedence can never be used as justification for historical failings, if it did women would not be able to vote and gay men would be in prison. For decades successive governments have blatently lied and misled the public over the state pension, none more so than the Labour party. In 2018 they pledged their support to the APPG on Frozen Pensions and in 2019 on Page 76 of the manifesto they included a committment to end frozen pensions. The UK state pension is probably the greatest unwritten financial scandal of the last century.

Xi Jinping is not satisfied with winning the trade war

Currently, the number of freight vessels scheduled to arrive at the Port of Los Angeles is on track to be down by 31 percent for the week ending May 10 compared with the previous year, according to the ship tracking site Port Optimizer. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-china-tradewar-tariffs-empty-shelves-b2739686.html#comments-area -

The Chinese civilisation has been around for something like 5000 years. What makes a country that has never been a civilisation think they can bring that to an end. -

Doesn't that rely on the response of US consumers? Continuing to buy products that may no longer be available, and if available, continuing to buy at a higher price. The "bs" is continually referring to now obsolete historical data. Only the delusional can think that Asian manufacturing can be brought into the US and goods continue to be sold at pre trade war prices. The policy makes everyone a loser. -
Historically It has been a tricky arrangement and i am not sure if all versions of android work in the same way. I have had a couple of android boxes and recently when using a usb it has to have been formatted in the box, once that has been done I haven't been able to use it again in the computer. Early doors I lost a couple of usb sticks after trying to use them again in the computer, became corrupted and irrecoverable. I used to load apk files but gave up on that, think it was android 11 that blocked access to the system files. Another point worth looking at, you may need to get a better file manager, I have found the ones that come with a box a bit limited. Also I think you can see the box file structure by connecting through the network to a computer, seem to remember doing it once but a while back. Good luck

A distorted view, the regulation will still be there. Creating an exemption does not "do away" with anything. Only airports with the advanced scanners will be exempt. -

When I joined the RAF what you already had was irrelevant, we were all marched down to sick quarters weekly until we had received all available jabs. How would any military or essential services function if all anti vaxxers that had gone sick in an outbreak. Time people grew up and accepted some social responsibility. -

It is not that long ago draft beer was never "cold". Served from wooden firkins behind the bar, kept cool with a wet towel and cleared with finings. Of course some nationalities have never seen real ale. -

Thai Tax on UK pensions
sandyf replied to Humpy's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
In the case of the state pension and government pension, there would be no tax "collected" from the state pension, all tax liability would be collected from the government pension. I cannot see the TRD trying to understand how tax is collected in various countries and would want to see a P60 type document for each income stream. The calculation on any credit against Thai tax liability for the UK state pension could be as clear as mud. -

There was a girl in my class at school in the mid 50s had calipers on both legs, expected to be for life. She got it before the vaccine became available. In a town of about 4000 everyone knew her and we were all marched along to the doctors as soon as the vaccine appeared, no debate whatsoever. -

Absolute garbage. Death can be the best outcome with some diseases but not always available. With most disease the risk of lifelong disability is far greater than any adverse effect from the vaccine. Anyone who saw polio in the early 50s would be well aware. People should be concerned for the easily led being sucked into this distorted way of thinking. -
Travel Thailand Tightens Airport Rules on Liquids and Gels to Boost Safety
sandyf replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The first sentence is a gross distortion. Other counrtries are not doing away with the ruling on liquids, they are looking to install expensive machinary that when working properly will remove the need for human inspection. The EU changed their rules when first machines installed, the machines didn't perform as expected so they changed the rules back again. It seldom pays to lead the way with new technology. Thailand is only going to do what other countries are doing. Many on here are more than happy when Thailand turns a bit of a blind eye in their favour, until something goes wrong
