  1. I don't think the jokes are necessarily in bad taste they are more of a knee jerk reaction to I'm glad that wasn't me.

No dude .... they WERE in bad taste .... I can't wait to get back to Thailand

I don't think you understood the statement properly.

People die here all the time in strange circumstances and making jokes is some people's way of relieving the stress of thinking, the next one could be me.

Hope you can try to understand that.

  2. How many bars are there in Pattaya? +500 I think so it should be possible to find another watering hole.

On most bars beer taps it's written how much they cost a pop, 1 tap for each beer and it's difficult to cheat too.

If I encounter cheating I would just pay and leave, it's not wort it man.

Thais are not only cheating tourists, some nasty people will cheat on everybody, money is the only thing they care about, they don't care how they "earn" them.

Grasshopper you have reached the next stage of enlightenment Pass on your knowledge and do not receive a kicking over a few baht.

  3. No, German.

Eventually I took the pickups in Covent Garden as a joke. They always ended up in front of this judge who fined me 1/2 quid and told me nothing would happen to me if I don't pay the fine. I never paid, and nothing really happened biggrin.png

I have learned that intolerance and prejudices go hand in hand.

    BTW: what sexual hangups?

They probably thought you were a rent boy.

  4. Makes me cringe everyday seeing people not wearing helmets.

Don't you think they should simply come out and make it officially illegal to ride on a motorbike or scooter without a helmet, as rider OR passenger (or one of the, up to, 4 passengers I have seen here! facepalm.gif ) to finally get rid of any "grey areas" or "interpretations" of the law by our wonderful BIB?

Of course if they did that then the BIB could not then decide to unilaterally run any "enforcement periods" to help top up the funds for the weekend, as is often seen outside Pattaya Police Station on Beach Road!

It just serves to reinforce the corrupt practices of our fantastic public protectors.

Kinda poetic that it was a gun-carrying, "un" bone domed off duty copper to bring it to our attention though! cheesy.gif

Probably the most useful and selfless service he has provided since being a "law enforcer".

Anyone who rides a bike without a helmet is a fool. Just because they are driving slowly doesn't matter. I would be happy for a 1000 baht plus fine to be implemented.

Helmets should also be checked for their age and damage and be destroyed by the Police if they don't comply.

  5. As I said the Scandi Governments have been very progressive in offering retirement options in Thailand for their senior citizens.

There are various Scandi housing developments around and they prefer to live in a family atmosphere.

They are an insular people, most of them don't socialize outside their own group much.

They don't encourage Germans and Brits etc. staying there, getting drunk and bringing girls back at all hours.

Oh-ho so do you think the Scandi's are better regarding birds and booze?cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

As I said before some older Scandi's can't speak English very well and yes they often stay in groups where they know each other well.

I was often out with such a group when I lived on Phuket and what a bunch of "old bitches" they were and they were always talking bad about you when you were not there.

I prefer mixed nationalities now after being an expat for over 12 years and learned my lessons.

I believe we were talking about the Scandi gated communities. The single guys or ones with Thai GF's stick with their own circle. I think it's because no one can understand their jokes.
