  1.

The smoggy season starts in January and runs through the end of December.

Started early this year in Pattaya. Air is so smoggy you can practically cut it with a knife. I thought at first it was farmers burning their fields, guess not.

Have you been to China in winter.....

  2. WOW. Why so many dying young. I thought everything was a Good life in Aus?

Maybe it's the cost of living....

How much demand is there for over 65s in jobs that require physical exertion? Even in skilled trades such as bricklaying, eventually you reach a stage where you can no longer continue, and that will often be before 70.

BTW in Oz we had a large tax increase with the introduction of the OAP. The retirement age was set at 65, because 2/3 of men died before reaching that age.

  3. Good Positive Proposals - Logical and efficient -

    Oh dear...

Moving on. Many countries don't like foreigners but they put up with them.

Examples: Spain and Greece - tourism dependent (But can be a love/ hate relation ship, on both sides)

Foreign workers in Germany and UK - (needed for the jobs nationals will not do...)

And Australia - years ago a recruitment drive for population growth (Racially targeted)

Now they pick and chose who they allow "In" (Professions etc)

But the main point is - If you want people to come in - MAKE IT EASY to get in AND STAY IN!

Had I known what a disaster it was to get in Thailand - I would have never tried.

(I spent over a month checking paperwork for my wife to follow - IT WAS WRONG! - we were asked twice suggested?

to pay a bribe by 2 immigration "officers" and were treated with aggression and like lowly serfs, when we didn't...)

In Many countries immigration has to protect that country from scroungers.

But Thailand needs professional people, at all levels, and socially acceptable/integrated people (Married/Retired)
so they should be honoured that these people want to stay in Thailand, not the other way around...

I took a 60% pay cut to go to Thailand, I had to live in poorly (minimal) maintained, inadequately furnished accommodation,

with no promised Internet for 9 months...

  4. "pack up and go" I hate that phrase

    "Stand up and be counted"

Or you're just as bad as them...

For all you people defending the pillars of our communities that are the police heres a story for you. I have a former friend who killed 3 migrant workers while driving drunk on Koh Samui, he has money and was able to buy his way out of that mess by greasing the right palms. The police made it look like the 3 poor blokes on the motorbike were drunk and because they were migrants, nobody cared and there were no family's to deal with! This is a fact so to all you people defending the police I just want you to know that this stuff happens all the time here. It's just the way it is, and if we are not prepared to live with it then we should just pack up and go.

  5. If you are pretty in Thailand you can be raped...
    (Thai or Ferang)

What a nice man. He took her back to her hotel after raping her twice.

He seems so very matter-of-fact about the whole incident.

It does show that working CCTV can be a very effective tool for the police and despite it seeming a relatively straightforward arrest, praise is due to the police on this occasion.

    Koh Tao please take note.

  6. To be clear they changed my pay at the second contract (Just after the Junta take over - I think that had a lot to do with it)

They reduced my salary and contract length - giving me 10 days to Visa expiry. (Without the slightest discussion)

We were told to Take it or leave it and vacate the apartment in 5 days
(I was told much later that he was just panicking, he didn't really mean it - how were we to know?)

Recently I saw a job email - offering 35K - WP paid + holidays. (Government High school)

So if they can pay - why can't this school

I originally settled for 33K - expecting to renegotiate the second contract to my requested 34K.

(I'm not here for the money - but I am not working for less...)

Ha ha even then they said I had to sign a contract then go to Laos, I would be paid...

but when I got back they deducted pay because they couldn't give me a contract when I was on entry visa.

(But it was OK to teach...?)

    (& there's lots more...)

So now I'm on Bereavement leave to go out of the country - when I asked for my pay to date,

they offered that I resign and re-sign a new contract when I get back... (Despite my contract, I will then pay for a New visa and WP again...)
