  1. Does anyone know what is the best place on the island to buy air tickets to Europe. What about internet booking?

Depends on airline and destination......online is good if you book early enough. Also depends on booking class, I always buy business class

seats from Chawla Travel in BKK (Patpong) usually 70-80 K for retutn ticket to Europe.

  2. please provide the link to the article.

  5. Its only while Bangkok's finest are about.

What would Bangkok police be doing in Samui? Are the drugs hitting?

One thing for sure, they won't be able to afford Samui taxis, on a Policemans salary. Uoops, I forgot about the 'bonuses'.

Apparently there is a new police chief on Samui who paid dearly for the job.

Q-Bar was closed last week at 1.30am and Pepe wasn't too happy.

I guess they are cracking down now and later 'relax' the law again in exchange for, well....whatever.....

  6. Samui tourism operators urge Govt to build 2nd airport

Surat Thani - Tourism operators on the popular tourist-destination Koh Samui renewed their call for the government to build the second airport on the island.

Surat Thani governor Winai Buapradit said Saturday that the operators called on the provincial administration to carry out a feasibility study and push for the construction of the second airport on Samui.

The governor said the number of tourists visiting the island increased every year but it was inconvenient for the tourists to visit the island.

Winai said the tourism operators complained that the air fares at the privately-owned airport were too high, and thus affecting tourism.

The governor said he had instructed the office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in the province to work with other government agencies concerned to prepare information to propose the project to the government.

  7. Possible if only carrying hand luggage. Flights notoriously delayed first and last thing in the day.

I cant imagine you will enjoy the trip. Why not the bus to Chumphon then the boat from there? - Cheaper and more relaxed and possibly quicker, certainly if you miss the original 8am boat.

Usually first flights out are on time and if you reach here 7.00am you should be at Lompraya pier by 7.50am. Normally they provide free shuttle bus at airport from Lompraya. In case flight is delayed, catch the Seatran from Bangrak pier.

  8. Fullmoon Party in Hadrin (Koh Phangan) postponed to the 24th :D a completely booked out island is waiting 2 day's for the event to come! It was announced for the 22nd until yesterday :D

  9. Hi,

I'm new to the board (so go easy!)

I've been living on Samui about 6 months now. I was wondering if anyone can help.

I'd like to grow my own wheatgrass. Can anyone advise me where I can order / get the seeds from?...

    John.

I recall a thread somewhere on wheat grass in one of the forums here, I believe seeds are difficult to get whereas the grass itself is available. Anyway, welcome to Samui :o

  10. Siege on Koh Tao

About 100 law enforcement officers yesterday laid siege to migrant workers on Koh Tao in Surat Thani province's Koh Pha-ngan district. Published on February 18, 2008

Police officers at Koh Samui Immigration Bureau led by Lt-Colonel Jaruwat Busaba, together with about 30 officers from the Royal Thai Navy Second Fleet led by Lieutenant Sarin Bhonakngern, commanded boats to blockade Koh Tao in a bid to clear migrant workers from the island. The force arrested 140 migrant workers who had been working at construction sites, hotels and restaurants.

According to investigations, most workers came from Burma and did not have work permits. They told police they had been working on the island for a long time and were paid between Bt150 and Bt200 a day.

The workers were detained at Koh Pha-ngan Police Station for deportation, but villagers claimed about 10 workers were released after their employer paid about Bt80,000 to the police.

  11. You could always ask Mark Wolfe. He seems to be an expert on children and parenting! (That is if you can dare to even bring your child to Samui!)

"MARK WOLFE METHOD OF TEACHING CHILDREN TO SWIM"

    1) Tie rope to child's ankle.

    2) Throw child into deep end of nearest swimming pool. ( Optionally, into sea from a boat)

    3) Wait for child to swim.

    4) In the event of child not swimming and or no more bubbles, retrieve child using rope. (Go to 5))

    5) Take child to hospital for recovery. ( Please ensure you take child to a hospital that Mark Wolfe has not convinced to ban Child Admississions)

SPECIAL "MARK WOLFE" OPTION. Forget the rope and enjoy the rest of the holiday on your own!

However more seriously Leemond, I seem to remember hearing about a swimming teacher who uses more traditional methods I will give my memory a dusting and come back to you personally if I remember.

    Cheers.

  12. I have been reading very bad comments regarding the back packers who used to come here in their droves, unfortunately they returned to their home countries and told everyone how beautiful Samui "WAS" I did the same. But lets not blame them for what this Island has now turned into. They truely loved Samui and can not be held responsible for the replacing of coconuts with concrete. in fact they did very little damage to the Island and its roads, the greedy money lusting property developers must take the responsabilty for all that and the need for HEAVY construction vehicles on this paradise Island. You know who you are but stop looking down on Backpackers they did nothing wrong their only crime was to come here and enjoy it, not rape it of its beauty.

  15. Can anyone recommend any good Chinese food joints? I looked in the recommended restaurant section and didn't see any.

    Thanks!

There's a new one opposite the Islander in the 1st floor called Bambu (I think), outside painted green, not heard how good the food is, anyone know??

Only been to the official opening and food was good. Expected to get better, have set menus with all inclusive beverages (beer, wine, softies etc.) at Baht 1,300 all you can eat and other options (without alcohol and without seafood) at cheaper rates.

    Nice interior, bright and clean.
