  1. If anyone has any news about boat cancellations between the islands or to the mainland, perhaps they can post them here to save unneccessary flood stricken journeys across the island for a non-existent boat? I don't have any at present but travel frequently to the other islands and the mainland so would appreciate any info people have....

Here are some useful telephone numbers:

    Lomprayah - 0772384112

    Seatran - 077238679

    Raja (Donsak) - 0774711513

    Raja (Phangan) - 0773774523

Songserm (for those brave enough!) - 077377704

Had Rin Queen (see above) - 077375113

    Stay dry y'all

Seatran Samui - Phangan 8.00am this morning on schedule

  2. I'll doubt if this scum has a work permit.

Just let them walk along with you to the nearest police station.

    That will scare them.

Hopefully they get deported and blacklisted soon. They ruin(sp) many peoples holiday.

ill ruin you if i saw you peasants !

infact the police get paid from timeshare companys so watch your mouth your just a visitor in thailand.....stay that way!

Make sure you pay immigration as well.......

  3. do agents here on the island not remember where their customers are ?? as the villa owner said, the agent was just after their commission and not interested in customer care,,,, hence there decision to leave the agent and rent direct in the future !!!! well l am sure that the agent will contact us when we are unable to check out !!!!!

I very much doubt that i.e. Sawadee knows where all their guests stay at present....

Of course agents are after money as much as the owner are after their own cut.....

I guess the weather makes you grumpy, totally understandable...

  4. May be YOU should contact the agent, how does he know you are sitting on a hill ?

  5. Hello,

I have been reading the topic and I wish to give you more exact information so that you do not need to speculate.

As you can see I am from Belgium and I will tell you some inside information.

I know Paul Meyer, the Dutchman that was arrested. He is married to a friend of mine and used to live in Belgium. They have 2 children and in april this year he was again arrested for importing cocaïne in a few containers. He was arrested when he was on the boat in the port of Antwerp. When he was in prison to wait for his trial he confessed to his wife that he was having an affair with their nanny ( a babysit for the children who lived together with them in a big house ) .

The nanny is the woman who is arrested, Kelly.

After a few months he was released from prison and he was wearing a thing around his leg ( so that the police always knew where he was ).

Just before the trial he fled to Thailand with the other ones and with Kelly. He removed the thing around his leg ( I don't know how it is called ) and got on an airplane.

When he was in Thailand he received the news that he was sentence to 6 years in Belgian prison.

The biggest mistake he made was when he send a holidaycard to Belgian police !The Belgian police could not smile with this action and issued an international warranty for his arrest in june 2007.

So that is why Belgian police wanted to arrest him and bring him back to Belgian where he will be a lot of years in prison. He had already 6 years and because he fled he will be given more years in prison.

For me personally, I do not like him even when I did not know what he was doing some years ago ( he told the family that he was sellng insurances and that he was working for a company who loans money to people ). He was always showing off with big expensive cars, had too much money to spend and always knew better.

I wish they had found drugs with him in Thailand because your prisons are no luxury and he is the type who needs luxury, several clean shirts an one day, ...

But I think he will be send back to Belgium to go to prison.

I hope that this explains a lot for you all.

    Best regards from Belgium.

He probably used his real return address :o

  6. Can any of you locals in Samui recommend a nice place for a big a$$ Steak on the island.

No backpackers here. We are not budget conscience.

    Also, best beach for snorkling.

    Hotels also recommended. 8-15K range.

    Thanks

For steaks try Chez Andy in Chaweng, opposite Swenson's Ice Cream. Top Angus and Wagyu, nearly any cut you like. Bon Apetit !

  7. Best Airports Worldwide
Leading a field of over one hundred airports around the world in our Best Airport Worldwide category is Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok with 22.4 percent of the votes. The airport (which ranked first in 2006 too) was well clear of second-ranked rival Singapore Changi Airport which secured 16.8 percent of the votes. Clearly, the extension of shopping facilities and the emergence of colour – carpets, comfortable seating, and potted trees – has taken some of the sting out of Changi’s assault.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport, a glass-and-steel marvel with sunshine streaming in to spotlight wooded reserves, ranked as the third best airport in the world, but positioned considerably below Hongkong and Singapore. Ranked fourth best airport worldwide is the new Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok, which has had its share of teething troubles but is a vast improvement on the Don Muang Airport. Ranked fifth best airport in the world is the gleaming and futuristic Incheon International Airport (Seoul), with Pudong International Airport (Shanghai) in sixth place, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in seventh, the small and utterly delightful Koh Samui Airport (Thailand) run by Bangkok Airways in eighth place, Zurich Airport in ninth and Frankfurt Airport in tenth place. Breezy Koh Samui Airport dropped several positions from number four in 2006 but remains a surprising and welcome member of the Big Boys’ Top Ten club.

Is this the new airport or the old one ?

  8. if you do it do it with 2 jet skis and radios within about 500 meter apart. for "safty"

would like to know becuase i am toying with the idea of getting one.

obvoulsy fuel might be the deciding facter

Sure it is possible. All depends from where to where. If you follow the Lompraya route which is pretty much sheltered, you should be able to do it without problems or even refilling.

  9. Soft opening at Samui International

    By Boonsong Kositchotethana

The new terminal development on the popular tourist island is scheduled for an official opening in January next year, to cope with surging foreign-tourist traffic to the island over the next 10 years and immediately ease congestion at the old terminal.

Samui Airport's new 500-million-baht passenger terminal was opened for international flights yesterday after starting domestic air services on May 27. Yesterday's opening means the airport is now running at full capacity, which is basically four times larger than the old terminal and capable of handling up to 16,000 passengers a day.

  10. Does anyone know where I can get reliable stats for hotel occupancy in samui for this year so far or for last year.

Also length of average stay, amount spent per tourist etc etc.

Best contact Thai Hotels Association in Samui for stats......they have a good list dating back 4-5 years. If you are interested in any particular hotel, just let me know, I might be able to assist.

  11. Elran to build mall in Ko Samui Thailand

source: Jerusalem Post Aug. 16, 2007

The Elran Real Estate Group said Wednesday it signed an agreement to lease a 25.6-dunam plot on the island of Ko Samui off the coast of Thailand for $5 million. Elran plans to invest $50m. to construct a 73,500-square meter mall on the island, believed to be the first shopping mall constructed by an Israeli company in Thailand.

Elran expects to begin construction within the next few months and hopes to have the mall built and fully occupied within the next 10 years.

Elran will lease the land for a period of 60 years, with an option to extend the lease for an additional 30 years.

Why does it take 10 years to have it fully occupied (okay, take 2-3 years for construction, still 7 years) ?
