You may or you may not be aware that there is presently a study carried out by Chulalongkorn University in regards to future planning of Koh Samui.
The professor in charge who I met again this morning has asked me what would be needed to make Samui a better place to live for us residents (Thai and foreign) and for visiting tourists (Thai and foreign).
This study also includes Phangan and the re-design of Thongsala area/pier and the Marina in Samui.
So if there is anything which comes to mind then you may post it. If you have nothing to say then just do so.
There will be a public hearing within the next 6 weeks and once I know the date I will advise.

I am sure that there are similar threads like mine, however, what do we REALLY need on Samui to make this island world class......???
Everyone will agree on better infrastructure, but what else could the island do with.......

Yes, please lets get a list of emergency numbers for any accident. Who do you call? Samui Rescue? The hospital itself? Who sends the ambulance?
This is all a number we should carry in our phones!
Mattt.

This might help you.
....or send a Thai to buy for you (preferably from Samui)

Does anyone know if the airport is open and functioning today? Are flights being redirected?
Thanks
The way it looks like the airport will stay closed today. Passengers are being ferried to Surat and from there flown to Bangkok or to Phuket by bus.
That is the latest news as of 9.30am.

Does anyone know if Koh Samui Airport has reopened yet & if not, when it may be?
No flight has left yet. Still investigating the plane. I would think about 2.00pm

I just heard a news bulletin that a Thai Air Asia aircraft ran off the runway in a rain storm at Samui Airport. No report of fatalities as of yet, but their are reports of injuries. details to follow.

Just heard that the tower at the airport was damaged by something. Not sure what, hope not a plane.

Hi
Where is the best place to buy kitchen units? I've heard that someone imported them from China.
Thanks in anticipation.
If you mean commercial kitchens the try 75 company (Maenam) or Somerville (Samui Town Center). Both have from Europe, Malaysia and China.

I'll do it for free if you like! Hee Hee!
Cheers!
I think my boyfriend might have something to say about that!
Why tell him
But seriously, this should be done by a professional spa therapist as it can be both painful and requires some skills.
Try Santiburi Spa or any of the better ones....
Good luck

Or check with Faraway as they are the specialist in weddings on Samui.....

ok i emailed six senses back saying on sawadee website they are advertising a room for 10000 baht per night can we have this rate and pay direct through the hotel rather than through the sawadee website.. it doesnt actually make any sense as sawadee will get a cut of the 10000 baht.
Thank you very much for your email. Please be assured that the rate we have offered to you was the best available rate and we are delighted to complimentary daily breakfast to you.
Hideaway Villa THB16000 net per villa per night
sawadee offer doesnt not include breakfast so im paying 6000 baht for breakfast haha
PM me your dates and I get you a great rate.
Internet agents offer a lower rate than hotels directly, thats normal. Reservation of hotel has may be no authorization to give lower rates.

When I read this topic I feel a bit sad. I can literally see Koh Som from my garden and the idea that this little spot will be completely ruined by another bunch of greedy falang makes my sick.
Curious to find out more about this project - who will find 40 people stupid enough to live on a 7 Rai island ? - Google told me that probably a regular poster on this forum is the brain behind this.
www.o11s.com/Past-Present-Projects.html
So if he can stop hiding himself and post here what will happen, it would be appreciated.
The guy you mention here is not the brain behind it, he is just consulting from time to time.
It is a Thai/farrang partnership and the developer lives on the island as well. If you wanna find out more, just PM him.

The new ghost road with all the drainings and widening, has turned out to have a serious problem. In certain places, when heavy rain comes, the road gets full off sand. Apperently a girl died there on tuesday night last week. Tonight as i´m writing this, two more girls fell down and are now in my house getting first aid (ok, only scratches, they were lucky) from my wife. Both accidents in the exact same place, opposite the school just beside blessing village. Reason for the accident is the sand is so thick on the road, the slightest touch on the brake and you can´t do anything, you just fall. These two girls were offcourse surpriced. They came so slow and did not understand why they fell, as we know motorbike education is not something thaigirls in general have.
So, point of this thread, besides warning others, is: who is responsible for this sand to get taken away? Tessaban? Or what is the plan? Surely it must be somebodies responsibility to clean the sand of the roads? Where could i call and ask whats going on? Two accidents this latest week (that i know of) and one of them with deadly ending is not good. This needs to be taken care of urgently.
Tessaban, or if you can't wait, do it yurself.Alternatively, get in touch with th enew major. Sorry to hear about the loss of that girl, sad indeed.

google is your friend.
If you need to google him, then he isn't that famous after all
Or someone's been living with their head in the sand for the past 10 years
Or not enough time to watch TV, read gossip papers or surf the net.
On a positive note again - If he managed to commit suicide back two years ago, he wouldn't be here:)
...may be then I would have known him already......

Without knowing what kind of buisness you do, i could say about for instans brochures that the inportant thing is the delevery of those brochures.
As an example pizzahut and kfc, mc donald, all have full colour brochures that comes ones a week. I been looking to print similar stuff myself and the price for these things are about 25 baht/paper. (A4 paper, two sides full colour print). When i get these pizza prints i usually end up seing at least 5 of them thrown on my poarch. Even if it´s raining. That cost the pizza company 125 baht plus delivery (ok, they probably have way better printing-price than i would ever get, but still). I bet that´s not how the original thought was. Problem is they hired a thaiboy and said probably "go home when all these papers are out) and the boy is creative enough to find out that the more he throws in each house, the faster he finish.
My point being that with that kind of commersial, you have to be selective with who you use for delivery or it will turn out to be a real waste of money. Printers there are a fair selection of good ones, but delivery seems to be the hard part.
As george suggested: Online advertisment is a great source for some kind of buisness. In many cases it is easy to follow up how many have watched it and so on.
Messageboards. Some things are good to promote even on the board around. (tesco, big c and so on). They clean them often so you have to go there every second day and put up a new one. But they get viewed by alot of people.
All depending on what kind of buisness you run.
I guess it's abot 2-3 Baht per leaflet....
The problem with advertising is that it's difficult to measure what produces and what not.
For a hotel of reasonable size 50,000 Baht is peanuts. For a small business usually unaffordable.
Best (and cheapest) advertisement is still word of mouth......

Just saw him again at Oceans 11 in Bangrak. Think he's following me. Getting annoying now. Can't get any privacy these days...
That place seems to get a lot of these people.....wonder why......

Was sat in Solo Bar earlier and Owen Wilson pulls into the soi. He was in the
passenger seat with the window down. I nearly spat my bear all over my mate, as he
was the last person I expoected to see tonight!
They drove down the soi and there was lots of screaming and shouting from all the bars
as they drove past.
Who is Owen Wilson ?
Big Hollywood star. He was in town to eat at the world famous Zicos.
Guess he came for the giant salad buffet......
