  1. Went to ais shop today, said the only thing they have done in fisherman's village is take down the 2g antenna and put up a 3G one!still no good in Banrak, have to move to truemove now!

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app

I am sorry, but there is no 3G antenna......that's utter nonsense! Trust me on this!

  2. This is crazy to go via Donsak

If you ask them nicely ($) I am sure everything can be arranged.....I saw on a few occasions bikes on the Seatran ferry (from Samui to Tao), even bigger things, but not sure if they belonged to employees or else. Go to the office in Phangan and ask them nicely. From Samui it would be easier as you could load the bike early (say by 7am) as boarding usually starts at 7.30.

Having said that, sometimes the ferry is parked against another ferry, meaning that you need to go through the first ferry to get to the one departing. May be the 13.30pm departure will be easier. Good luck.

  3. Yes, AIS has problems in these areas. They asked me to come and change SIM card but that was not the problem. I believe after removing the tower in Fishermen's Village things got worst. I am a customer for 14+ years, and I am seriously contemplating with a change to Dtac or True. (can keep original number, which is good).

  4. all available evidence points to it being a fire, but dont quote me as i am not authorised to speak on the internet.

just out of curiosity, is there a garbage dump there?

You need authorization from who ? I am authorized to speak wherever I want and for a garbage dump it looks pretty big. If it was, it must have spread into other areas which is easy as everything is dry as a fart at present. Will find out more later.

  5. I never stop ,for nobody ,just step on the gas and off i go .

Nobody(who want to stop me ) is able to write down a number plate so quickly,

"stoppers" will not come after you, they don't want to loose time chasing you when they can take

    sugar from others passing .

If i cant get away (danger of accident) i will never open any door nor window (because they will try to take

your car keys or your driver license .Hold your driver license against the window on the inside ,never give it out of your hands,

then you are lost and ......coffee1.gif

This is not an advice , its what i do.

Wow, you are such a hard core !

  6. If traffic is the primary concern, then doing it at night certainly won't help much. As I said, even though the traffic is lower at night, it's also much more dangerous with the risk of drunk drivers as well as it's generally more dangerous to drive in the night with roads conditions like this on the island. Depending on how the girls are scantily clad, they're also in risk of getting mugged and raped. You may argue that they're in group, but any potential perpetrators can also be in group and may have weapons. They may be high on something and at night won't have much second thought of doing something.

Reality check please! This is Thailand! Not some western country where it may be perfectly safe to do this at night.

There's also many parts of the island, such as inner parts, where traffic is nearly nonexistent. Obviously you won't get the spectacular ocean views, but this point would be moot anyway since you're doing it at night, so the scenery on the island seems to be not of importance.

We're knocking it not because we don't like it, by all means, it's a great activity, but doing it at night is just STUPID, no matter what kind of reasoning you're trying to explain with!

I know the intentions of the people who arranged this are good, but it's very naive to decide to do it at night.

These people aren't gonna be "living their life" running around the island, but "risking their life" by doing it at night like this.

In additional, depending on where you're hiding these clues, have you ever thought of people who actually want to sleep at this hour? By hiding some clue in a neighborhood, there may be a rush of you guys to where the clues are hidden and all the noise the bikes and you people talking etc etc...

Just do it in the freaking day for gods sake!

I have no opinion on the activity since i won't be participating it not necessary for me to judge those who are participating.

As a first time visitor to Samui in the next couple of weeks though, the comments i have bolded concern me very much.

My wife (62) is a stopout and won't go home while there's fun to be had. This often see's me going home before here or staying out with her and rarely see's her going home when i'm readylaugh.png

If muggings and rapes by armed gangs is a possibility in Samui it's not one i've seen brought up before in all the research i have done. Can someone comment please on if this is an actual concern for a couple walking back to a resort in North Chaweng in the wee hours of the mornings?

If it is a real concern and not an overdramatisation on the posters behalf, how common are these crimes?

I've read back thirty pages through here of topics and never seen a mention of this type of thing? Worse thread i saw was a tourist lifting anothers handbag.

If i told my wife about this she would refuse to go, but if i'm aware it's a problem i can take steps to guard against it.blink.png

Everything is possible, like in any other city in the world.

  7. Thanks Samui Coconut. I called the ferry from Bangrak and she told me that there will not be enough time for me to get from the airport (my flight arrives 0720) to the boat which leaves at 0800. I know it might only normally be a 15 minute ride, but she discouraged me from buying the ticket. She told me to take the later ferry that leaves from Nathon! I will start making inquiries into speedboats.

    Thanks for your answers.

Tropicalevo, thanks for the songteaw and taxi info. It sure sounds like alot of money for a 40 minute drive, but I guess thats what it is.

Yorkie, we tried to find a boat to Phangan and only found ones that leave from Nathon and Mae Nam, but the Mae Nam one was booked already (a month ago). I will look today to see if we can find one that leaves from Bangrak, that would sure be much easier. I just talked to a lady at the boat company and she said Mae Nam is near the airport, and she said Mae Nam is the same as Bangrak? I dont think I understood her very well.

If you arrive 7.00am just take a taxi to Bangrak Pier, use Seatran ferry, leaves daily 8.00am and 13.30pm, I think Baht 300 per person for ferry.

Maenam and Bangrak are about 20 minutes apart by car, so not really close by.

You can also ask with any hotel that operates speedboats from Bangrak, i.e. Santhiya Resort, Panviman Resort, Buri Rasa Resort, Anantara Rasananda Resort (all located at Tong Nai Pan Beach on Phangan), more expensive than ferry, but if you are heading to that beach in Phangan anyway, may be even cheaper than taxi to Nathon, ferry ticket and then taxi from Thongsala Pier in Phangan to your resort. Resorts also usually pick you up at airport and take you straight to their pier. Price included in speedboat ticket. Good luck.

It will save you a lot of hassle if you take the 13.30pm Seatran ferry from Bangrak rather than going to Nathon and taking the 13.45 pm ferry. Seatran will arrive in Phangan before anyway and the beach in Bangrak is much better too, with many restaurants and bars.

  9. Songkran is only celebrated on the 13th on Samui. Pending on location where she stays she may join the fun in front of her hotel (Chaweng) or if she stays a bit more remote, better stay where you are, no point to hop on a bike, you gonna get wet for sure. Its only one day, so no worries.

  10. The heat was killing me.

Food center is good, the best on the island, but also the most pricey.

There's Russian, Indian, Japanese and Italian outlets. But very pricey. The prawn masala in my pic is 180bt.

Aircon in the food court was struggling with the amount of people.

But in the department store, the aircon was super cold! You really don't feel like leaving...

Most of the shops were already present on the island, so there's nothing new.

I asked their information desk about the cinema and it has been postponed for the time being and no firm date yet when it'll be ready.

Parking was confusing, at the end I ended up at the old Tops Supermarket. Just went to bank to open new account, ended up having quick bite at Wine Connection. Not bad, but no Rose Wine available, (glass Baht 100.-) , its like going to McDonalds to be told, "Solly , burger no have"
