Merry Christmas to all, stay safe out there !!!

I wouldn't advise anyone to invest any money here.
...and why not ???
Where to begin....political uncertainty and only going to get worse, corruption rife, developing country with third world mentality.....that would be enough for me anyway. Theres far better places to invest than a country thats going to get left behind by its neighbors and is already making a fool of itself with regards ASEAN.
Anyway, thats my opinion but i doubt those already invested would admit to agreeing with me. Atleast it offers an honest "opinion" for the OP to dwell on.
Not wanna get into now....as you said...your (one!) opinion.....

Jazz Café, Retail Show room.....what's next? Chinese Massage Parlour, Dim Sum Drive-through.....?
Just come down and check it out yourself, that's what most of us did as well.
And who says affluent expats and developers are that keen on "Made in China" products?
P.S. There is no Yacht Club and Rotary has less than double digits members. Good luck.

Use the 2 month wisely and check around. Do your homework during that time and whilst trying to attract the upper market type clientele (good intention), you must come up with something really nice/good to get them to you. They are around (less than the middle class of cause), but don't forget this upper class expects upper class environment, food, service etc..... and not everyone (including me) likes jazz. Make it a music café/restaurant...rather than specializing on one type of music only....As for location, stick around the busier areas or an area which is easily reachable by the busier areas. Think of parking as well, and then you need the musicians, and of cause qualified staff and ....I could go on for ages.......but I wont.

1500m runway on PhaNgan's proposed airport:
To put this into some perspective, Samui airport's runway is 40% longer at 2100m (measured from the tarmac ends).
The airport developer(s) will need to do some serious land-filling, as the terrain drops noticeably at both ends of the runway.
Aircraft approach would probably be safest over the sea (eastern end), as a western approach may entail considerable risk, a bumpy ride over PhaNgan's mountain range thermals (avoided by most flights to/from Samui). This eastern approach would cross the existing Bangkok-Samui flight path at right angles.
Crosswind turbulence from surrounding hilly terrain may also be a problem for light aircraft landing on this runway.
<Google Earth tour attached>
Runway is proposed to be 1,100 meters long (NOT 1,500 meters)

or - lots of smaller cheaper stuff in the shops near beaches (Choengmon/Nathon etc)
and Maenam, ..... but the OP not being very specific as to what is really wanted... kiddy stuff or fancy floatables !
Fancy like this ?

^ Same here, sometimes twice a day. If I ever have a problem, 1 phone call and they are here within 15/20 minutes.
Yes, you guys are right, they actually do come, but I am never there....only on 'payday' they come in for a non-alcoholic drink while the wife prepares the envelope....and yes, they are nice.
-
yes,and what exactly do the police do all day?you never see them out patrolling except when some dignatory arrives on the island.
You must pay them, then they will come and patrol your house.
Costs 1000 baht / month.
...and even then you only see them on pay day

pps - take a look at Pappa Joe's bar in Bangrak taking the weather into account and the deluge to get to Mae Nam.
He's actually Swiss (so might hate German footie!) but then again, he might not.
R
Thanks Rob, I also found out that Ch3 is showing this match at 12.30 am (Sunday), so leave it up to the boys. F1 will be as wet as Samui I guess
-
What part of the island are they staying?
R
Bangrak. But Maenam, Plai Laem, Choeng Mon would also be okay. Thanks
Then it has to be Happy Bar in Mae Nam, I reckon.
It's a German bar, there are 3 screens - and unless there is F1, this game will be on all three.
This is on the right, just after Santi Buri Resort (coming from Bophut).
The other one mentioned (Indian Restaurant street) is Pub Austria, that's just around the corner.
(But that has only one small TV and it gets really crowded with regulars who sit right in front, and it's hard to see the screen - but definitely a much better atmosphere!)
Much appreciated, thank you.

Tam's bar, Chaweng ring road, red-lights towards laemdin.

I have a bunch of Germans here who need to watch this Saturday's Premier league match between Munich and Dortmund. Any idea where to send them. Guess the match is on around 8 or 9 pm. Thank you.

Dubious. Phangan is more expensive than Samui for most things. Given the basket of goods they are using, the hotel you stay at seems to be the only important question, since staying at a 4 star hotel would make up at least 90% of the total cost. Choosing a different hotel on each island could have resulted in a completely different rankings for all the islands.
In Summation: What a useless article.
Totally agree, utterly useless attempt by Trip Advisor to compare apples with oranges. How can you compare a 4 star resort on Koh Phangan with a 4 star resort on Sentosa. Every beach hut in Phangan can award itself 4 stars.....at Baht 450 per night not a bad deal. Motorbike rental.....200 Baht, yes, with no insurance etc all possible. Sentosa surely has insurance....
We should not forget that Trip Advisor is a business, and a business has to make money, so there is more behind these articles than just free info. and whilst I am at it, when looking for a place to stay, I look at online agents where only guests who actually stayed in the property are able to post a comment, not as with TA where every Tom, Dick & Harry can write a review for a place he has not even heard of before......

High in compared to ?
Try the local markets in either Maenam, Bangrak, Choeng Mon etc., even along the lake road in Chaweng, if all fails, go to Makro or Nathon Market.

Trouble with your plan is you will be moving rooms probably on Xmas day.
Not that it mattrs I guess....there will be vacancies....just a bit of leg work....mix in the occasional refreshment stop and you'll be fine!
From my humble experience you will find rooms around Christmas, it will become more difficult towards new year when most hotels are fully booked.
I would book a place for a few nights, then check with owner/manager if you can extend until the day you leave. Might need to move rooms within the property, but still better than driving around looking for a new place. Also, check on websites for rates and then ask for 15-20% discount from resort as this equals the commission payments to online booking agents. Good luck.

Looks like AIS have both 5S and 5C in various memory sizes, but not all. 5S sign said 64Gb
AIS has all models, 5S with 16,32,64 GB and the 5C with 16,32 GB (no 64) .
The 5S 16GB has the same price tag as 5C 32GB (roughly 24,000)

I have it already since yesterday, but it was pre-ordered. In BKK waiting time is approx. 2 weeks. May be call your service provider (I use AIS) and ask.

Could be "Häfele" , if i am correct, the shop is nearby the Land Department on the left side of the road to Lamai.
They do also kitchen.
There is another: Sunflex and Sun Asia......

Driving down towards Ban Tai today there are posters dotted along the ring road .... like this (actually I don't like!!!... )
Just to go off subject but since it was mentioned!
The comment from Tropo, this red weevil problem, does not seem to be getting much worse..that I have noticed. I think they are using Fermone traps to attract and kill the males (usually how that is done.)
along Soi one to Lamai, one can see a few of these traps hanging in the groves ... not been out and about in other areas to see if any around, but it may be just and experiment.... Lets hope it works....
So they are promoting to Thais then .. And what is with the fortuner ? Do you get. Free one with an apartment ?
Not sure even that it is one....

They might be nice if they did'nt plaster them in those awful marinades, a naturally spit roast chook is delicious. And to MANTISMAN, there is another on the roadside at Bang Rak almost opposite the new ferry jetty near the airport, but once again spoilt by their awful marinade.
The marinate consists of exhaust fumes, dust and smoke......

Same developer as Club Koh Samui I would guess......the one with the ski slope....
They are the same developer as Baan Por Jai in Saket (completed and sold out) and The Ville (opposite Bluewater, pretty much sold out as well).
Im worried as well about the floods + the noise of Qbar + Black Moon + Reggae but the construction will start next year..
I was joking....

Interesting replies here.....
Nobody mentioned a critical factor which is (and always will be) Location!!
Whilst its true that most places are fully booked during full moon, other periods can be busy as well. What I know is that many hotels/resorts run occupancies of 60-70 percent throughout the year, and that is not too bad indeed. It all depends on where you are located, what product you offer at what price and what service levels you can offer.
