  1. I recently drove from Bangkok to Donsak. Left BKK in the afternoon and got to Donsak at 04:30 am. Lotsa trucks on the way. It took me 13 hours to get from Bangna to Donsak with 3 short stops (total about 1 hour), so prepare for a long trip. Anyone usually does it much faster or is that a normal time?

In Donsak plenty of trucks waiting for the Raja Ferry, they told me I have to wait for the 08:00 am ferry.

So I went to Seatran, also lotsa cars waiting there. They told me they are not sure if I can still fit on the 06:00am, I couldnt, so I luckily made it on the 07:00am one. If there would have been just a few cars more in front of me I would also have had to wait until 08:00 am.

Since you plan to stay overnight nearby and know your times better then me its probably advisable to do a reservation for the first ferry. Not sure how to do that, maybe another member can help on that.

I remember being able to book a 'seat' on the ferry in advance for a car....may be no longer possible......

  2. Please note that the POS contract is always tied to your company's banking relationship, and the process of getting POS terminals always starts in your bank. They will tell you what brands of terminals they support and give you advice about the vendors. Sometimes they may have special offers - I have even seen the whole setup paid by the bank, harware, software and all.

I am sorry, but that info is incorrect. You can buy a POS system without contract and it does not need to be tied into your company bank account.

  3. Err...what does that have to do with anything?

    I've stayed in shitholes and 5* gaffs...I prefer 5*!

    BTW not paying wink.png

    OP:

"Have to stay in it for 3 nights but wondering whether to extend the stay or move somewhere else?"

YOU asked for advice. I gave a reasonable response.

Maybe not what you wanted to hear, but never the less.......

    You're welcome.

    Err...:

"Their cheapest room is 4700 bt!

    That's for one night.

I stayed in a place in Lamai for 500 bt a day, near the beach with AC.

You sure you want to pay that much?

Seems like one would need some snob appeal, but sure is a nice looking place!"

Kommiekat - I asked "how long to walk to the Ark Bar" you said you can stay in a place in Lamai for 500 baht - which last time I looked isn't near Chaweng and has absolutely nothing to do with the question!

    And as I said - I'm not paying! wink.png

Just debating whether to extend my stay there or move somewhere else.

Looks like I'll stay there for a few days and check the location out to see if the walk is "doable".

Otherwise I might change to the Amari - which is sort of the budget/location I'd prefer...unless someone has any other suggestions in the centre of Chaweng?

(Don't think the Mrs would like P&P resort wink.png )

Many thanks for the sensible replies.

If you wanna stay near the action then Amari is your best choice.....walking distance to the "center" yet away enough to sleep well. Minor flight noise can be experienced.

Further south you will find many more hotels/resorts, best is check a map, mark location, search for nearest hotel, check on booking.com for reviews and prices.

  4. "The airline will initially use leased turboprop aircraft including the European-made ATR 42, capable of carrying 50 passengers, to herald the air service between Bangkok and Koh Phangan."

"Service will start with two daily non-stop flights, taking 80 minutes each way."

"Operating only from dawn to dusk, the airport will have annual capacity of 600,000 passengers or an average of more than 1,600 a day."

Just wondering how they calculate... Coz for me 2 daily flight with an aircraft carrying 50 passengers, make only 100 by day !

    ahaahahah

    Capacity is 1,600 per day....capacity!

  5. When I first read your post, I was gonna say that it sounds like there must me more to the story than what you told. I doubt he'd "all of a sudden" be like this at you without no reason.

Seeing how your responded to this thread, I am starting to understand why this Thai dude wanted to punch you.

Agree, its always a matter of attitude too....

  6. Train.. yeah right, the sheer number of buses running, there's of course bound to be accidents. Like there's plane accidents or a train derailing up north...

I'm pretty sure statistically, the buses aren't really that much more dangerous than the other transportations.

Besides, you have to get on the bus from ferry to airport/train station anyway. And those buses are much older and in worse condition than the VIP buses.

Statistically per kilometer - flying is the safest way to travel.

Statistically by volume of passengers - buses are the safest form of travel.

However, in Thailand, statistics mean diddly squat. Buses crash all of the time. Planes don't.

Also - airline passengers tend not to be robbed during their flight!

In Thailand, so that I have a better chance of seeing my next birthday, I would choose

Fly, Train, Car, Bus, Scooter - in that order.

Fly, Train, Car, Bus, Scooter - in that order.

    I second that

  7. A good friend of mine went for his retirement extension last Thursday (18th). My friend has been here for many years and refuses to pay more than 1,900 baht.

The Birdman asked him for 'the new fee'. My friend said no way. The Birdman kept him at the office until 5 pm but my friend did leave with the extension and did not pay any extra money.

This is the second time that the Birdman has done this to my friend in the 10 years or so that he has been living here.

"The Birdman"....nicely put......I know him for donkey years, still not enough in his pockets..........poor guy!

  8. Really hard to get any info on this place....on TA info is also a bit vague.....its off the beaten track and whilst I know most hotels/resorts on Samui, I never heared of this one (which does not mean it does not exist). If you are traveling alone, may be check into another place for the first night and then scout for this place.....

After your stay there, please post more info as well.
