Perhaps a shift within Thailand, depending on what each X-pat requires, me personally, I prefer living in the sticks, as far away from civilisation as I can be, but within a reasonable distance to buy my groceries and visit a red light district to empty my balls with a different female occasionally, alternatively take an hour 40 flight to Phuket for a week, maybe I need my head read ?

I would never invest in Thailand, as you said, far too risky and depending on where your home country is, they would be encouraging you to invest there at minimal, if any tax, e.g. back in Australia its 10% on any interest earned in a bank (withheld), no tax on fully franked shares, (tax already paid) and no capital gains tax on shares, although you can forget about property, because they will start with your left hand, and then take your right.

    Hahaha
Right on Bro my kinda thinking !!!

  2. I have come to believe that Thais have zero regard for other drivers, or pedestrians.
When trying to turn right on a Y junction without lights in Chiang Mai at rush hour, no one would let us through, despite them not being able to move ahead because of the traffic lights on the next intersection- they all just drove into the gap and wouldn't let us cross in front of them. How those selfish p***** can behave like that I find hard to comprehend. It would have disadvantaged them not at all to be considerate.
At night when trying to cross the road to the night market not one car stopped to let pedestrians cross, despite the traffic moving extremely slowly.
I will not say what I think about people like that as it is contrary to the forum rules.

    Your bang on
It's as if they're trying to out you into a dangerous position just because your in their way and need to get past you at all costs. This even if that makes you or your fellow passengers another fatality.

I used to drive all around Bangkok but started getting too pissed off knowing I'd end up getting into trouble if I lost my rag. Sooner or later they've got to do something about all these loss of lives it ain't funny no more !!!!

  3. I live in a condo which was built such that the kitchen/dining room (and laundry rack) is on the balcony.  Because of this layout, I find myself on the balcony very often, and sometimes for several hours at a time.  Unfortunately for me, the person living below me has a constant habit of smoking as he leans out over his balcony.  Very often, this means that the smoke immediately enters my kitchen/dining room, and very often stays there for a period of time.  Since I moved into this condo, for the past 8-10 months, I've put up with this situation without complaint.  However, about a week ago, I had spent more than an hour preparing lunch, and sat down to enjoy it just as he came out for a smoke.  I pondered going back inside the condo to wait for him to finish smoking, and for the smoke to dissipate, but I was very hungry at this point, and decided to eat anyway.  It felt like I was having a meal inside an airport smoking lounge.  It took about 30 minutes for me to finish eating, all the while ignoring the loud complaints from my body.  About an hour later, I came down with a migraine headache that ruined the rest of the day for me - and the day after, as well.  I've been getting migraines since I was 18, but they're very rare for me now, and I can't help but wonder if this one occurred because of my forced exposure to the smoke. In the past, I spent quite a bit of time in smoky bars, and the smoke didn’t particularly bother me at the time. Now, I find it extremely irritating, so my body has apparently changed - which makes me wonder if I've developed an acute allergy to cigarette smoke.

Since the migraine, I have now twice had a brief, friendly conversation about this with my downstairs neighbor (from our respective balconies).  Both times, he was extremely understanding and apologetic, and immediately went indoors with the cigarette.  I very much appreciate his understanding (and I told him so), and I can't help but feel a bit guilty about infringing on his pleasurable activity - but I feel I have no choice.  And I can't help but wonder if we will begin to continuously find ourselves in these conversations, and whether his willingness to cooperate will evaporate over time.  I've never met him before, so I have no sense of his temperament. I also have no sense of whether he owns or rents his condo.

It's possible that my neighbor is smoking while leaning over the balcony in order to comply with the non-smoking terms of his own condo lease, and that my request is now causing him to consider whether he needs to relocate, or that he might be subjected to financial penalties for smoking indoors. On the other hand, it’s occurred to me that, if I find myself constantly and unavoidably subjected to cigarette smoke in my own kitchen/dining room, I myself might have no choice but to relocate. I asked the condo building management about this, and they tell me that technically, smoking on balconies is not allowed. Of course, they’re very aware that people do this anyway, and my impression from my conversation with them was that it’s a gray area, with the outcome of any dispute unpredictable.

I think all this serves to demonstrate the issue associated with smoking on the balconies of multi-resident buildings. Until this situation occurred for me, although I had heard of it, I never had given it much thought. My initial impression of such balcony non-smoking laws around the world was that it was unnecessary. However, since I now consider myself somewhat of a victim of the situation, I understand the logic behind them.

I am not militantly anti-smoker, and I don’t dispute the right of people to enjoy tobacco products. I just want to breathe fresh air. And I’m afraid many smokers feel that the growing anti-smoker sentiment around the world is unfair - and motivated by pettiness, or political correctness, or drama queens, power mongers, whatever. Unfortunately, I think it’s too easy to disregard the true effects of smoke on some people more than others. If smoke doesn’t happen to bother you, that’s great. But it’s important to understand that not everyone’s body will react the same to cigarette smoke. For that matter, I regularly meet a smoking friend at the beach for a pleasant conversation and some coffee, typically lasting around 3 hours. And whenever he wants a cigarette, he excuses himself, moves away from the beach, and lights up. After a few minutes, he returns, and we continue. I’ve told him more than once how much I appreciate his consideration.

As far as my particular balcony situation, I have no idea what the future holds. It would be great if the downstairs neighbor moves away, or quits smoking entirely, or starts smoking only indoors with the windows closed, switches to a vaporizer, whatever – but I have my doubts, of course. This is unfortunately a perfect example of how smoking can unnecessarily pit people against each other. At this stage of my life, this is the last thing I want or need.

I have the feeling this posting will inflame the passions on both sides of the discussion, and that’s certainly not my intent here. I only want to share my own experience with the situation in order to hopefully expand on our collective understanding.

I had a similar situation a few years ago and had to move because these guys smoking on the balconies below took umbrage after I asked if they could tone it down a little. However, my neighbours were extremely volatile and didn't want any confrontations with a load of lunatics !!! Good luck ...

Would you say driving habits are sometimes a reflection personality and intelligence?

Sometimes one doesn't quite get their reply post done in a specific manner in true context using a mobile phone. I was merrily implying it seems road rage is inbuilt into Thais mentality having complete and utter disregard for other road users or even the safety aspect. Would really like to see more respect given to other drivers  to help stop the carnage and deaths up and down the country throughout Thailand. It's quite bizarre when you have to worry about friends travelling around wondering if they'll arrive at their destinations safely.

    Cheers !!

  5. Where do you get the 6.5% stat??? Unbelievable. Why do people make such stuff up or repeat it uncritically?? Just consider that the literacy rate in the nation with the most Muslims in the world, Indonesia, is 94%. Pakistan, the next largest, has a 60% literacy rate. Bangladesh is about the same. Egypt is 75%. Starts to look impossible for the rate to be down at 6.5%, doesn't it? Literacy is, in very broad-brush terms, an issue in the Muslim world, but let's not exaggerate/fabricate the stats...

I told you a million times stop exaggerating !!!!

  6. Well considering my first wife and I were together for 30 years I think my thinking  can be fruitful.
I should add that I spent time in BKK, Ayutthaya, Pattaya, Rayong, Sriracha, pang gna, Koh Samui, Phuket, Hau Hin, Phitsanuluk, and koh Phi Phi.
I guess I am so new that I don't know what quality of women are within my reach.  So I guess I'm asking about who my target demographic should be considering my age and willingness to live part time in thailand and learn the culture. I have read enough forums to know that many of you are just trolls and sometimes I laugh.  I have thick skin. But please try to share your knowledge with me.
Why do I need good luck?.. I don't believe Luck has much place in love and relationships. I do hope to fall in love but based on my past that occurs very slowly for me.  It seems that Thai women know so quickly.  I hope that didn't open up the flood gates of trolls? I hope to keep my  integrity.  Although sex is 30% of a successful relationship and  some just wont do! I am not into training from scratch or trying to change lazy habits.  With all the modern methods we now have for reaching vast numbers of partners online its a new and evolving game. I do think it best that I come to Thailand and live someplace and try to meet people in non bar settings. I know I should take my time to fit in some and that may bear the best fruit..  I have already poked my nose in it just on my initial visits.  I like the smell.

Hope you don't poke your nose in our Soi !! Enough Sad Boring Bastards as it is.

  8. I'm planning on doing a couple of minor operations on myself, I have sterile medical #6 surgical blades, isopropanol and iodine.

My concern is the suture, are butterfly plasters good enough to keep a wound closed?

They will be under dressings once complete, I expect a little oozing which is fine but wondered if the plasters are up to the job.

I'd prefer not to have to give myself stitches if possible.

By engaging in self-injury, a person intends to:
Obtain relief from a negative feeling or mental state
Resolve an interpersonal difficulty, like a disagreement with a friend or loved one
Deal with an intrapersonal problem, like boredom
    Induce a positive feeling state

Maybe a lobotomy might suit you better - Good Luck !!

  11. "...The delayed investigation led to accusations on social media that police were attempting to shield the millionaire from justice as in other high-profile cases involving the wealthy and well-connected..."

From time to time we see TV posters getting lampooned (usually, by Siamophiles or Trolls) for airing their opinions of events in Thailand that go against their "farang" values and beliefs. And, in some cases this involves cultural ignorance or bigotry, and the criticism is probably deserved.

However, there are certain events (that happen in Thailand) that do deserve ridicule - even from TV posters.

And, in that regard, one would have to think that Jenphop's insanity defense and the actions of police involved in this affair probable pass the Duck Test (https://is.gd/WzTsmZ) !!!

I agree unequivocally in your directive way that is not subject to conditions or exceptions.

However, nigh on impossible to get any of these messages across at times when your up against anything that's immoral or unjust then patted down, taken out the equation, your post disappearing into the abyss !!

  13. and where is the useful info in that?  I think I can tell fake O's thanks very much.  I think I was respectable but still sampled some goods. All this internet talk of man up and dominate the women..   I think I can hang and not be a pushover.   I do  think i am going to have to bring many hops and brew my own IPA as the beers offered in LOS was dismal. I did find one little dive near the China hotel that had some nice beers.  I dont use beer goggles any longer and wont use alcohol to trick a woman.. I have passed up many wounded quarry.  I am an ethical bow hunter type.

Thailand is a sexual Paradise a kind of Disney World on Heat.

The penis is “kind of a barometer of the sympathetic nervous system,” So the greeting, “How’s it hanging?” is more apt than you might have realised.

When a man talks dirty to a woman, it's sexual harassment. When a woman talks dirty to a man, it's 4,000 baht.

Personally I won't go to bed with a women unless I've met her for at least 2 minutes !!

At the end of the day your ability to connect with TV members comes down to how you make them feel. Knowing through experience your in for a rough ride I'm afraid.

Romantics seem to have crawled out the woodwork of late and truly suggest the responses you're gonna get will not be suffice for your needs. Man-up and go root a few Thai women and get the deadly deed sorted out.

Alcohol makes other people less tedious, and food less bland, and can help provide what the Greeks called entheos. Thai women fake orgasms and men fake finances.
