  1. Going to buy a click with the GF the next few days. She has her own money and I'm just trying to help her out. She only goes short distances and is has only been riding motorbikes for a couple years She is far from a fluid rider and safety is my main concern. She is 59 yo so isn't interested in a flashy scooter. I'm a little younger and have the Aerox ???? I think the 125i is perfect for her 3 kilometer market trip and the rare 20 kilometer trips to friends homes. Figure she can pick one up in Ubon for around 54k. Should she get the combo brake model?
  2. The thumping funeral music has been irritable the last few weeks. Many are meeting the reaper in my area but the last 2 were motorcycle accidents and i bet they were helmetless but fully masked. Wish they would be more considerate and die when I'm not around.
  3. Playing golf in hot weather would and should lower sodium levels for most individuals. Some people lose little and others like me (5'11"-72 kg) lose a substantial amount. If it were me, I would add a 1/2 teaspoon to every liter of water while golfing. Blood tests are cheap in Thailand(250 baht). Get your blood tested 3 or 4 hour after exercising and see if the added salt is creating issues ( high blood pressure, elevated sodium levels...). It is fun to take control of your own health. At worse you might kill yourself in the process but it is empowering. In most cases IMO a person should be able make educated health choices without a doctor. Not always but most the time.
  4. I drink between 5-7 liters fluids a day. Roughly 50% plain water and the other with about a teaspoon of salt per liter in the liters I drink prior to exercising and after. A couple big bites of a banana every liter that includes salt is also helpful. The banana (potassium) and salt(sodium) cover the electrolytes needed for exercise in hot/humid areas. The other electrolytes are not as important IMO. Very hard to drink too much water for the average person but for those working hard in the heat or exercising hard for more than 75 minutes it is quite easy. Rarely deadly but it can mess you up especially if it creeps up on you over a a few days. Lethargic and feeling tired all the time are my first symptoms. Color of my urine is meaningless for me. It can be clear and I'm in balance and be clear and I'm out of balance. Actually trying to have clear urine while living in Thailand caused me to be completely out of balance. Drink loads of water if needed but get the electrolyte contents right for "your" needs.
  5. I get doctors are essential but the same time they can be a waste a time and at worse detrimental to your health. I've broken many bones and damaged organs over the years in sporting accidents and the doctors were great. With my numerous soft tissue, lower back, and tendon issues they have been for the most part worthless and a couple of them were supposedly at the top of their area of expertise. Doctors are just guessing in many situations and really don't have a vested interest in improving your health. Go to 3 specialist and get sometimes 3 contradicting remedies. The best option is taking control of your health by educating yourself and learning how to be aware of "your" health challenges. You should know your body better than any doctor and be in a position to fix issues that arise. Not all but most. Just my opinion and probably put you to sleep.
  6. All of us pick and choose and our ethics evolve to the circumstances. Morality is 3 spoons perspective and 1 reality.
  7. Much better! Telling me to talk to dead nurses is an attack but this reply is a civil response and appreciated. I'm sure the other poster is ready to pounce that i replied to earlier. Also your common sense you referred to is not universal. Not criticizing and sure you are aware at your age of human intellect. We grow wiser and adaptable as we age if we let ourselves relate to other opinions. BTW, I agree with most of the above with slight nuances.
  8. A "follow the science crowd" typical response that ignores reality and science. A bot response would be much more original. The rallying cry has been made and the torrents of thoughtless hateful responses will commence.
  9. Exactly the type of rabid response I was talking about. Sorry, I have to follow my own path and learn along the way. I went from a almost complete vaccination believer to I'm not quite 100% sure vaccination was the best solution. Can I express this opinion without you attacking me and telling me to somehow talk to dead nurses? Chill out and let it go and hope you have got your daily dose of aggro out of your system. I got vaccinated for people like you and sorry you can't cope with this. If you really think Covid was a personal major concern for healthy individuals, I will never convince your type otherwise. The anger in the vaccination crowd is appalling as your post epitomizes. Why not look at both sides in stead hammering out a rally cry for the vaccination enthusiasts. IMO vaccination worked to what extent is debatable but I have a feeling you can tell me.
  10. Many things but the one that convinced me to get vaccinated was I couldn't race in Thailand. All races required vaccination. I run and I'm in stellar health. Covid wasn't and isn't a worry nor should it be IMO for healthy unvaccinated individuals. The problem is the global society is extremely unhealthy and needs drugs to remedy the situation. A terrible solution and throw in politics/group think and you get the rabid covid vaccination crowd. A jab for me was my solution to keep the fearful unhealthy masses at bay and I think it also helped minimize the severity of the spread within the unhealthy. I might have saved a person that let themselves become pathetically unhealthy ???? Give me a medal. Didn't you face restrictions?
  11. You must have few friends. I only got vaccinated the second time because I had too. Vaccination(s) was required to do the things in Thailand I want to do at the time. I got covid anyhow and it wasn't any fun but it passed like other terrible viruses I've had. I was training hard so I'm guessing my immune system was deficient. Sorry but I call BS on your "fun fact" but nice to know you experienced the covid era on your terms.
  12. Just my opinion but I have found doctors advice to be more wrong than right. I have gone to multiple doctors here and they all contradict each other. Happens back home also. Take control of your own health using common sense. History is rampant with doctors/experts giving terrible advice. They always seem intent on telling me what I won't be able to do and subscribing meds. Where do you live? I'm rural Thailand and the majority of the under 20 crowd is pathetically unfit. Pre-covid there were lots of outdoor activities in the evenings but after the lockdowns the kids seem to have moved on from exercising. The locals have tried to get the kids out again with exercise events but it hasn't worked. This is rural Thailand but it does have 7-Eleven and small food shops that the kids use. Also very little exercise which can be seen in the thin ones. No muscle mass and are arguably functionally worse off than the fatties, The over 40 seems to be much healthier than the over 40 back home. Maybe that is what you are referring to in the OP.
  13. Makes sense but why not order on the PC? I can do a transaction in a fraction of the time and get much better products using the PC. I'm not super fast with typing on the mobile so this already slows me down. I also love reading pages of reviews which is odd but I do for some reason.
  14. Yes, that is what I do and makes using the app pointless. I can do the same thing in seconds on the website and read through many reviews with ease. If Lazada resembled Amazon reading the reviews would not be a big concern but what is advertised is not remotely what is sent on Lazada. I usually find out what is actually being sold and keep searching product reviews until I find the right product. E.g., advertised 100 amp hour battery usually is closer to 50. I go to 200 amp hour batteries and determine if it meets my 100 hour requirement. Doing this on the app would be painful.
  15. How do you read reviews in the app that are translated? This is my most important part of the buying process.
  16. Completely normal and slightly dangerous. Not much you can do about it other than getting a smaller version of the current GF. It is hard for my girlfriend to not lean the opposite direction I desire and also she has nice view compared to your old ride which complicates the situation. Before she never saw what was happening Infront and the instinct to lean was negated..
  17. Brings back memories of fishing little streams in the Rockies and camping under a chilly star filled sky. Not into the lake fishing but that's just me. Best of luck with the new life! As for needing more motivation as we age, I disagree. Many young in the states are mentally in a bad place. Happiness can be slippery at any age and the key for me is never settling for being unhappy wherever I find myself. The cliché, happiness isn't a destination rings true for me in most situations. It's hard and lonely at times but I have always ultimately found happiness but sometimes it took more effort than I wanted to give. Those times were brief and tough. Recently I built an elevated patio overlooking 30x30 meter fish pond on our property with a solar battery setup that brings it to life at night. Last night while reading a bad book, I was happier than at a 5 star resort in Phuket. I guess what I'm saying is that being happy is pretty darn important and you should do everything possible, even if seems crazy, to get to a better place. You might be amazed how a simple change brings a different outlook on life.
  18. GF lived/worked with an executive at S&P for 25 years that was always experimenting with food so her cooking is well rounded. I'm easy so don't think it would matter much if she wasn't a good cook but it is nice regardless. I get in food ruts as well as mental ones. Coffee with lots of cream and sugar, pea protein and a can of tuna in the morning, huge protein (250 g meat) mostly Thai lunch she cooks, Then 4-5 70g bags of cereal I buy at 7 Eleven spread out the rest of the day with another pea protein drink. ~ 4000 calories down the hatch and Rinse and repeat! I do live near Khong Chiam as you mentioned. A wonderful place if you are into unique landscapes with constant undulating hills. Some incredible restaurants on the river if you know where to find them. There is one farang in town - a French guy that owns a gold shop in town but have never spoke. He is busy with his shop and 2-3 kids. I definitely live a strange life but I think it is going to end well.
  19. Yes, I am east of Ubon on the Mekong. Was traveling and the lockdown restrictions kept me here as well as the GF family. She left the family at 16 to work at S&P in Bangkok and it has been wonderful for her. Built a small home in lieu of paying the daily hotel rate after 5 months. Been an interesting experience and amazed how time has left this place behind in many ways.
  20. It's challenging but three years into the stint and I think it will all work out. I've gone, I think, close to a year without speaking English to anyone other than phone calls. I'm the quintessential loner but it has been more difficult than expected. It is so easy to let yourself fall into a mentally unhealthy lifestyle. Once or twice a year I catch myself being lazy and not putting any effort into my mental health. Physically I'm extremely healthy throughout the year which gives me a decent foundation to regather my wits and I usually recover in a week or two. Meditating helps me realize how good things are here and I doubt I would have any issues if I did meditate consistently but as I mentioned, I get lazy. Having a couple things that are very challenging helps but I find it hard to find challenges during the hot months. It is so easy to close the blackout blinds, crank the AC and veg. This never ends well but I easily can convince myself this time will be different. I've lived big in big cities and at the end of the day I think my life is better here being a nobody in nowhere Thailand.
  21. Don't think they had massive dams in year dot. These dams can be extremely deadly and destructive under the wrong set of circumstances.
  22. Live on the banks of the Mekong and was caught by surprise this year because I wasn't following the flooding in China. We have had a mild rainy season especially when compared to last years torrential rains. The huge river is the highest I've experienced and the water is moving fast.
  23. Scared of what exactly? I'm not sure what your intentions entail. I have made a habit of holding my ground with bullies in the real world and it has only ended badly once. Wasn't any fun not backing way from a 190 cm bulky brute and wishing they could see how utterly cowardice their actions were at the time.
  24. It is not my style prior to Covid but the lockdown and the odd set of circumstances that put me in a small home we built on the banks of the Mekong has given me a different perspective. It can be challenging not having any interactions with English speaking people for 6-12 months. The last interaction here was 8 months ago. I'm with the most beautiful woman I've ever met and the scenery is spectacular but I would talk to anyone at this point even it meant a punch in the face.
  25. Enjoying this thread and your posts. Good laughs but why can't you understand a non-virtual meet could end poorly. Real life has real life consequences. Boredom, fist fight, etc... I'm a lurker here on AseanNow more than a poster. It seems like most people don't like me which is odd because I'm well liked in the non-virtual world. I guess I'm online challenged. As for me, I would meet 5-10 of the interesting posters here that disagree with my posts but would avoid the people I find offensive and trite. It would be interesting meets but I understand others reservations. . Those that know me don't consider me a coward and not meeting up with certain posters is common sense.
