The easy life is easy throughout the world with few exceptions and there lies the problem. We dream of relaxing and enjoying our life more as we get older but many just fall into a rut of despair that worsens every decade. They medicate with booze and other meds to smooth the transition into a dull existence. Sitting at a bar at 4pm relaxing with friends sounds nice until it defines who you are and becomes a boring routine that is regretfully accepted. Many ways to let the easy life morph into a pathetic existence. It is extremely tempting to take the easy road and personally I have to diligently add hard challenges on a daily basis to be happy. Maybe I'm mentally unstable but I bet most are the same. If I start letting life pass me by while relaxing with a beer or whatever it always ends poorly. I don't know - life is confusing...

Welcome to Malaysia -- wear a Swatch watch go to jail
atpeace replied to Jingthing's topic in Gay People in Thailand
Tried it 38 years ago and it was confusing. If being gay meant you had a second hole that was self lubing and smelled nice, what would gay men choose. JJ is getting teamed up on and think a little empathy is in order. -

Yet so many straight guys get into it. Annal porn gathers the most views. Just saying and I'm heterosexual. I bet you like it yourself... -

That would be terrible world where minorities had no right impose their ideas but the majority could at will. -
Depending on the extent of liver damage, quitting for 30 days can reverse all of the damage leaving a person with a perfect liver. Quitting for 3 weeks as the OP stated is definitely going to help. I quit in June for a couple months other than 2-3 nights out with friends, I had slight liver concerns because of blood work I had done. It seems like a wise sacrifice every now and then.

"Buriram Marathon 2024" Night Run Attracts Over 30,000 Participants
atpeace replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
My favorite marathon that is now my least favorite but it is a success for the masses. It was one of the cooler weather marathons in Thailand and now with the evening start it can be hot with highs in January hitting 33 on some days. The evening start time works though for casual runners and they seem to have a great time with most of them walking much of it. It is designed to promote Buriram and not for running good times. They have definitely succeeded and congrats! -
A 60 year old fat guy gets knocked down and kicked after slapping a bouncer. If that is the extent of what happened on the video then my bet is they were at another bar 10 minutes later laughing. The bouncers definitely could have handled it better but they are young and pumped with adrenaline. I would like to think the 18 years old me would have refrained from hitting an unfit inebriated 60 year old but not sure that would have been the outcome after a heavy slap. Should have smiled and grabbed him with the other bouncers and convinced him to leave.

Let me get this right. So a person can promise to repay but if the lender misjudged their capacity to do so then it is solely the lenders fault. Your second sentence above is silly. You lied and claimed I said something I never said and then proved how the statement I never made was ridiculous. You are offensive and illogical. Get a grip and chill out. Please refrain from lying would also be appreciated. Life is to short to be a angry all the time. With a little empathy you might see the other side of an issue and realize possibly you aren't all knowing. Sometimes the borrower is at fault and sometimes the lender or both. In the end, taking responsibility for your actions is a facet that separates losers and winners. Blaming someone else for decisions an individual makes seems childish. I've honored 100% of the contracts I've signed in regards to lending and borrowing money. That is how I roll but not you I guess,

??? If I understand you correctly, predatory banks lend money to people that are unable to repay. Seems like a stupid business model. What really happens is a different story. People tell banks they can repay and then down the road realize they can't without drastically cutting expenses. Then they blame the banks. There is a reason rates are high for certain individuals.

Diabetes cases to double to 1.3 billion by 2050
atpeace replied to Confuscious's topic in Health and Medicine
Maybe you didn't read the post I was replying to? Sure you're busy but in your rush you seemed to erroneously read my post. . The poster I replied to stated born with diabetes ( neonatal). I never stated that type 1 is not genetic nor develops after birth and have stated this obvious truth in this thread. Many people are predisposed genetically to type 1 diabetes which is greatly exacerbated by poor eating habits. I guess we disagree on "rare". As you stated it is entirely possible which I agree but it is extremely rare? Diabetes is of very little concern for thin active individuals. Add healthy diet and the odds shrink even more. Maybe I should replace rare with extremely unlikely? Why people want to ignore the elephant in the room is odd but predictable. It is unhealthy lifestyles that have caused this diabetes epidemic. It is an awful disease to cope with for many and ignoring the "root" cause and focusing on the outliers seems nuts to me but maybe I'm missing something. -

Unlike the what I've witnessed outside of Thailand and I too have wondered why. My Thai brother in-law was thin and healthy looking but suffered from diabetes. He ate like many Thais; copious amounts of processed rice which is only a little better than raw sugar. I myself consume huge amounts of sugar everyday but have almost eliminated processed rice. If I'm going to eat crapp it is going to be something I enjoy more than plain white rice and it definitely isn't going to be my go to food source. Many Thais probably get 70% of their calories from rice and this has been catastrophic for many. 20 years ago when Thais were much thinner, diabetes was a major concern for many. I remember thinking what is going on here with so many people in the village going to clinics for insulin shots. -
Those barriers will save many people as frustrating as they are when you want to U-turn or take a left. Thepprasit was a free for all and motorbikes getting run over was common when stopping in the middle to turn. Watching cyclists extend there leg into traffic while waiting to turn made me cringe. They will never be removed and traffic will flow much better IMO. Time will tell and may be wrong but hard to imagine the road being worse off.

I would feel frustrated also but I'm not into the "WOKE" thing and would rather speak the truth. Being born with diabetes is rare (.00015 - extremely rare ) and google "Neonatal Diabetes" if you have doubts. As I have stated many times, perfectly healthy lifestyle individuals develop diabetes but it is extremely rare. Many of us are disadvantaged genetically and we have to adjust - life isn't fair. I myself have had pitty parties about my lot and realized it wasn't the solution. As for using "I feel" as pretty strong evidence as you stated, it is used to express an opinion. I am far from always correct and am open to new information when presented. Some on this forum nitpick ( not you) and aways choose fighting for their beliefs in lieu of listening to others. Diabetes is a frightening disease and ignoring the "main" cause to make people feel better about themselves is not the answer. People are much more willing to face the truth as you did, when a health situation is presented with clarity. 7 Years ago I was told I would only recover 50% of my lung capacity based on the MRI and the breathing force of my lungs. It was a clear message and I moved forward after shedding a few tears. -

You forgot the sentence prior. "For the many "Know-it-alls" here". I think we all know diabetes is not just for fat people and I stated that in my post. Why are you selectively omitting what was said? I feel, possibly in error, that diabetes is a a disease of the unhealthy minus rare exceptions. His post was stating the exception to the norm which confuses the root issue. People eat much too much and exercise too little. -

So diabetes is a thin people disease? You are taking this personally and that is not the answer. Diabetes is catastrophic health issue and your post is condescending and pointless. I think we all get that diabetes inflicts healthy individuals and this unfair. I would bet 95%+ don't fall into the healthy category. My good friend years ago had diabetes and everybody was shocked. Why were they shocked? It is extremely rare is the reason. Doesn't take a genius to reflect on the body shape of those they know that have diabetes. -

Generally speaking you are correct but my gut is telling me you might be cow like. Can you kindly post a pic of your gut and with this post in the background. Think that may clear things up. Nothing wrong with loving donuts but there can be consequences. BTW, I love donuts and sugar. A look in the mirror and my good blood sugar numbers tell me that I can do this but most can't. Everybody has their own reality and most ignore it when it comes to their health. $3 of broccoli would tear my intestines apart. The solo rectal symphony would scare the neighbors. There are other milder alternatives. -
Problem with increasingly aggressive & violent wife
atpeace replied to JammG's topic in Family and Children
The OP seems to have no savings and is not making much money. Not an insult - just stating my thoughts without really knowing him. His options are limited and don't bolt with the kid unless you are sincerely worried she may harm him physically. Living on the edge financially with a wife that is mentally unstable has to be terrible. I would leave and get your head back together and start over. Have a plan about the kid that works for you but in the end "get out". My gut is also telling me that there is much more to this story... -

Being Single VS Marrying a Thai Lady

I think many meet them outside of bars or online sites doing normal things like shopping and then create a story that works. I did that once and it ended poorly. -
Being Single VS Marrying a Thai Lady
atpeace replied to Danderman123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Really good question and while married for many years wondered WTFF I was doing at times. Told myself if I ever escaped, I would be a lion and Thailand my pride. 4 years after escaping I'm living with a beautiful woman that is older than me and loving life. I guess I'm not built to roar. Many of my single friends that I was jealous of while married are also in serious relationships. They all were religiously promoting the single life until they fell in love. I think most of us don't live that perfectly free existence we dreamed about. Being free enables you to meet countless women which magnifies the "ONE" that standouts from the others. Then what do you do? -
Being Single VS Marrying a Thai Lady
atpeace replied to Danderman123's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Bar girls are evolving and becoming closer to some of the women in the west looking for someone to support them. Too may better options compared to sitting on a bar stool. Over the years I've met some wonderful bar girls but can't remember a single one of these women that remained a bar girl for long. There are a couple I would have considered taking to the next level if I had been single. It's a hellish job for someone that has high self esteem and they quit or find alternatives. Not all customers are jerks but many are. -
Thailand’s tourism confidence slides amidst global economy concerns
atpeace replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Global tourism is up 25% YOY and this happened with high inflation. Expected to surpass pre-pandemic numbers next year. Wish people would just stay home... Thailand fumbled along early in the recovery but the numbers in the next few years will surpass 2019 which is sad IMO. -
Diabetes cases to double to 1.3 billion by 2050
atpeace replied to Confuscious's topic in Health and Medicine
"The number of people suffering from diabetes worldwide will more than double to 1.3 billion by 2050 driven by structural racism and gaping inequality between countries, new research predicted on Friday" The title is ridiculous. How about the people suffering from diabetes will double driven by peoples insatiable appetite. What a waste of money and energy on this research. Obese people are 80x more likely to have type 2 diabetes. It isn't a poverty issue or racism that is the issue. Donuts are more expensive than vegetables but more of the world is opting for donuts. -
Two months is optimistic and it is bad throughout the year if you live within 2 kilometers of the moat Think you live outside the city center so probably not an issue. I would rather shave a couple years off my life breathing bad air than living in the UK.

Problem with increasingly aggressive & violent wife

Go to the amphur and get a copy of all the divorce papers. Get them translated and fill them out so you know what you want. Take them to a lawyer then and get a second opinion if you want. I didn't have a lawyer and it ended well. Might want to have a lawyer explain the options pertaining to your child. Use the lawyer as an adviser and you don't need their assistance in filing IMO. Here is the tricky part. Tell her you are OK with the amphur without a lawyer and throw in an incentive(200k,300k, 500k, 1 mil... baht) at signing. You know her and how much money will motivate her. I gave the money after the signing outside the office. My ex trusted me and new I would give her the money. You could include it in the divorce paper. BTW, the divorce was simple and I think a lawyer would have complicated the process. Literally took 1 visit that lasted 1 hour if I remember correctly. The divorce paper was completed by a lady at the office that just asked about property and who gets what. The above seems easy but if her mental states are anything like my ex, there will be challenges. I simply told her the details and let her decide when. When she told me she was ready, I was in the car and at the office 30 minutes later.
