  1. The power cuts are a hassle if you don't have a backup plan they can be much worse than a hassle. How people lived here without at least a big fan is amazing. I went with a a lifePo4 battery with an inverter so I can plug in electronics. For 8,000 baht you can buy a complete system (1000 watts of capacity) with an inverter(solar setup-minus the panels ). Easy to charge with a charger but I hook up one 150 watt panel (panel). Added benefit is my property is lit-up like a Christmas tree at night which is important in rural Isaan because of theft. We are gone quite often.
  2. It is cooler in Isan in the mornings and evening than Krabi. Regardless, I struggle with the heat in all areas in Thailand in May. In May, hope is near and the wait is intolerable.
  3. Last year it started April 15 in Ubon. In my 20 years here, It can start in April and last until Mid November. Not sure how the guy you replied to thinks it always starts in July.
  4. Have had Russian friends and many interactions over the last 20 years and most were pleasant. You will get a good following on this forum with your populist post but that only is a reflection that there are numerous fools here on this forum that love to be liked. What type of person are you that can't interact with Russians? A simpleton is my guess. Growup...
  5. Strange logic but think you are trying to get an excited response. Not even worth my time responding.
  6. There are fat people that live happy long lives but There are also 3 a day pack chain smokers that live long happy life's. Play 1 bullet Russian Roulette and you will be fine most rounds. Being fat is simply adding bullets. I know and respect fat people that own up to their addiction to food and the detrimental aspects of the addiction. For them the risk is worth the reward and I believe in personal choice. Only issue that upsets me is that I have to supplement their health care costs in my insurance premium. Obese should pay much more in premiums.
  7. Agreed and calories MATTER. It is an easy sell telling people calories don't matter and some people are predestined to be fat. Both are insane statements that appeases an overweight society. If you are a rare duck with a very slow metabolism then you simply eat less and exercise a little. Mostly it is diet and exercise plays a minor role. Not rocket science... Cave men seemed to figure it out without any mental effort.
  8. The study would produce a different result if you eliminated drug addicts and people chronically ill or dying. It is a message that sells and hence the flawed study.
  9. I drive both and the cars are definitely an issue. Motorcycles benefit from being nimble and can easily move through traffic and this is dangerous. Cars are constantly pulling out in front of me or sticking there front end 2 meters into oncoming traffic while trying to enter from a side road. The cars have no choice but some just bully there way through traffic causing dangerous situations. It is anarchy out there on the roads and accident is always a possibility. Been fortunate for 15 years but it can happen tomorrow. The roads here can not accommodate the countless number of vehicles is the main issue. Everybody is forced to take risks if they want to get from point A to B even if they are conservative drivers. Farangs with valid drivers license are partaking in the insanity of driving here and doing all the same things Thais do to get where they're going. I would venture to say Farangs are more apt to take bigger risk compared to Thais. Just what I feel but may be I'm not seeing clearly.
  10. I assume you are stating that it is easy here? I motorcycle license in the USA is much more time consuming, expensive, and difficult. probably why it is much saver to be on the roads in the USA. I came here for the adventure and with that comes with health risks as far as Thailand is concerned. The pollution has improved IMO and the driving has gotten worse because of the exponential growth in car ownership and lack of infrastructure. It seems that thousands are sharing a road that can handle a fraction of the drivers. It is anarchy!
  11. Depends on the country. It is about he same kWh as the average in the "west". Most people I know here use substantially less kWh here than they did back in the home country. I wonder why many of us lower are consumption? As for me, I don't cool the whole house 24/7 as i did in the west nor rooms I don't use. Hot water is rarely used and I bet I use 5% of what I did in the west. The list goes on...
  12. In this yesteryear you mentioned there wasn't "Toxic air, hazardous death trap drivers and driving conditions, scams, regular coups, endless junta government, tourist area raids, overpricing, dual pricing and gouging, ludicrous alcohol hours". IMO most the above conditions have improved and some drastically but I do miss the pre 2000's. The country was an adventure and now it is starting to resemble the west more and more. Tourism now, even its reduced level, is bringing multiples of what it did 20 years ago. No going back but sure wish it was an option.
  13. You are right it is a little hot but I'm naked underneath so not all that bad. As for farangs doing what I suggested already. News to me but I don't get out much during this period. A coupler laxative tablets tablets in a drink would also shut down an abusive water sprayer. Any farang that gets his rocks off blasting people in the face with ice water deserves some consequences.
  14. I take the opposite approach of dressing beach casual. Bought a trench coat and duck taped my helmet shield and the ice water is of little consequence. A minor inconvenience. Not that I would do this myself but a squirt gun filled with piss might be a better option than fighting. Some of the farangs that get great pleasure out of blasting riders in the face deserve a thorough piss drenching and they wouldn't even notice. I think most people are just having fun and 10% are the problem. Many ways to have fun at their expense and at the same time not cause any lasting damage. Fight back but have fun doing it!
  15. Great post! I want to go now.
  16. I was thinking I could refill with cannabis liquid but prob not a viable option because the liquid is hard to find. Your
  17. Yet you don't feel the need to criticize those that buy expensive weed. What is hilarious is some posters need to feel important because they are insecure and socially challenged. A quality person doesn't place a price on enjoyment but simply enjoys the moment. Just had a local drop by and give me a sample of Skywalker OG and bought 10 grams for 500 baht. It is a near perfect high.
  18. I run a lot which increases my core temps. Hard to cool down for up to 5 hours after a hard effort. Ceiling fans help a little after the room is cooled down but a floor fan pointed at me allows me to increase the AC temp a few decrees vs the Ceiling fan. Floor fans for functionality and ceiling fans for aesthetics. Under the right conditions ceiling fans are OK but in a hot room they suck vs. a fan. A ceiling fan in a hot room pushing down hot air is still better than nothing.
  19. Personally I think he is trying to have a discussion and you and a few others are being condescending. He has an opinion that is different than some and that apparently offends some upscale weed smokers. He is chilling and others are bent. I'm toking right now on weed that grows on the banks of the Mekong river. 10 baht a gram and does the trick. Could really give a rats <deleted> if it smells different.
  20. Been passing through and stayed in Pattaya for extended period the last 25 years and am amazed in the beach transformation. Top 2 beaches in the world? Not even close but it is a decent beach the last few years and definitely is no longer an eyesore. As for the water quality, I don't have a clue nor care. I rarely swim and even if I did, it would be inconsequential IMO. Some people will always find a reason to bash anything because they need to feel important. I'm a happy fool that enjoys Pattaya beach visually and especially from a high condo/hotel floor vantage point where it is spectacular. TikTok is all about the visual experience and that is why it is #2 on TikTok. My pond at my home is great in pics but definitely wouldn't swim in it.
  21. Thanks - Shopee now opens in the phones browser. This has been a headache for years and fixed in 30 seconds. Lazada asks for me to confirm identity but it is an endless loop of approval and asking me to confirm. Lazada has a nice app but there website is a mess and is barely functional at times.
  22. It doesn't translate the complete page. For example, the comments aren't translated and you can't translate them, on the app as the above poster suggested. Right clicking only works on the website. Shopee also doesn't allow you to use the website if you have the app on your phone. The language issue also applies to Lazada. For two days I have got the dreaded "Payment Failed" message. Finally gave up and found all the items on Lazada (Lazada's website sucks!!!) and ordered. A Thai online experience that is half as good as Amazon would be wonderful but in the end Shopee ain't that bad.
  23. I wondered about this myself. I have friends in the industry and the wages seem to be flat. Have prices doubled? IMO, not even close. Most things I buy are roughly the same price they were 10 years ago. This goes for homes, rents or a box of cereal. Thailand hasn't experience the inflation that is rampant in developed nations.
  24. Interesting topic and hope you get some answers. I'm still 15 years away from when it will become an issue.
