  1. Your question does not make sense. There is an O visa (no insurance required), an OA visa (where you need OA insurance). There is no O and A Retirement Visa. What is it?

Once clear. My next question is Are you renewing an extension of stay at immigration in Thailand or is it a renewal at a Thai embassy in your home country? You have also posted in the Vietnam section, thats why you have no replies.

Why don’t you supply a link to confirm that people with mild or no systems will be admitted to a hospital ???

There are already stories of people testing positive on Day 5 being allowed to isolate at home.

There are lots of stories of Thai’s and Foreigners living in Thailand testing ATK or PCR positive and isolating at home.

I’m not sure what happens IF someone tests PCR positive on their Day 1 Test&Go test, but if I’m not mistaken:

    - IF they have symptoms they will be isolated in a hospital.

    - IF they have mild or no symptoms they will be treated on their situation.

       - If they have a home they can isolate there.

       - If they have a booked hotel they can isolate there (if allowed).

       - If they have no private options they will be pushed to isolate in a hospitel.

None of this is documented - asking for a source of such information is simply posturing to point score rather than handling the discussion with any understanding of how Thailand avoids clarity because it doesn’t actually plan to handle these issues ahead of time and it keeps changing its policy.

I posted a link to AXA earlier. This is a screenshot from the FAQ section. The original OP question was if I admitted to hospital? If this is the case its because doctors deem it medically necessay.

    Opening post.

"Hello. I am planning on coming to Thailand on 10day AQ. In case of asymptomatic/mild case of Covid during the quarantine, can they force me to go to hospital/hospitel if I refuse? I am concerned about the costs. From what I've read, insurance companies don't cover such cases."

OP is asking about being forced to go to hospital or hospitel if he tests positive but is asymptomatic or has a mild case as noted above.

I believe no insurance policy will cover this.

No one now will be forced into hospital with no or mild symptoms, which was the case previously. Now if you are admitted to hospital it will be classed as a medical necessity as determined by a doctor. In this case insurance should cover it.

  4. This is what makes a mockery of the Covid extension process. Designed initially to help people who cannot get home to their own countries. Yes of course people have taken advantage of it. In your case if I was you I would expect increased scrutiny of why you are coming back to Thailand so soon. Be prepared to be asked for a flight out of Thailand in 30 days and 20k baht or equivalent in cash.

  5. Try buying a case of 12 but its still gone up by 2 baht a bottle. Last week 12 large Chang 585 baht and this week 605 baht. Not that I drink the stuff its horrible. Federbrau German beer is my drink at home beer, 719 baht for a case of 12. But being a cheap charlie you wouldnt drink that.

My friend told me his understanding of what the agent told him was necessary after entering on a tourist visa.  My friend didn't want to buy the extended insurance the OA requires and I couldn't understand why the agent would want to do the OA after he arrives.  Thus my OP.  I also know the "rules" seem to change a lot.  My friend will question the agent when he arrives next month.

Thank you all for the input.

I am sure the agent means a Non O after he arrives. He can not get a Non OA impossible.

    Yes.

Either you or your friend are misunderstanding. Either way both of you are wrong. OA can only be obtained in your own country. If entering on a Tourist Visa, the agent can arrange for change of visa status to a Non O (not OA), after that arrange for an extension of stay based on retirement.

    I agree with you.

I avoid fb posts and think they belong in Facebook.

I didn't read one refusal of entry first hand in that copy paste.

Having said that ....too much time in Thailand has always been a dance.

I recommend anyone doing an exit and reentry to obtain tourist visa. Yes they can also be refused upon reentry but unlikely.

Whilst there are many people on Facebook who post SPAM there are many help groups specialising in helping peope and providing good information on what is required for returning to Thailand. Whilst aseannow.com have many helpful forums, what is required to return to Thailand and not always offering immediate quick advice is not a strong point. A specialist Facebook group is much better for this in my opinion. This forum especially Ubonjoe offers great visa advice.

Is the QR code only valid for a specific day of travel? Let's say you are traveling on the 15th March and you obtain your QR code for that. If you then have to change the day of travel to the 16th is that QR code still valid?

Yes up to 72 hours after but not before. You would of course have to inform the Test and Go hotel.
