  1. I don't think anyone is claiming the average Thai earns 100k a month. That would be silly.

You are claiming to know most people who earn 100k a month.

You come out insulting legitimate teachers who earl less.

The supposed survey was done in Bangkok and Pattaya,

Please do tell the job titles of expats in Pattaya who earn 100k++

Apparently all the teachers he knows earn 100k plus... I think around 50k is average for foreign teachers, but a handful from international schools do get more than 100k.

To be fair, the teachers I know are well qualified, experienced educators working at decent schools, rather than sexpats who developed a sudden enthusiasm for education when it became apparent they'd need some basis upon which to remain in Thailand long term.

Ignore him, he's one of the many duplicate accounts crowd. wink.png

    I'm sorry, what?

  3. This so called survey was a topic of conversation in my local watering hole yesterday and the comments were not only less than complimentary they were unprintable.

General question was does TV have to sink to the level of fraud to provoke conversation and the answer was yes. All the stories of authorised forum trolls stoking controversy pale compared to this rubbish.

You sit around talking about Thaivisa in the real world?

    Wow. Mind blown.

  4. Average person earns 100k a month? What?? I must be in the wrong job then, I get half that, I know maybe 1 person here who earns 100k a month, what am I missing exactly?

You must missing a lot. I know a lot foreigners with over 100,000 Baht monthly payment. At the place I work are 5 of such guys, including me.

I know lots of foreigners earning 300 to 500 k month 100k/m is chicken feed...

We have Thai nationals working for us who make 200k/m min

The labourers on the factory floor earn 30k/m

Bunnychow, can I ask what industry such payments are in? That is frankly insane money.

I work in education, I have a PGCE and close to a decade of experience, half of that in western countries. Just so you know, the salary that most teachers get even in the UK would only come to about 145k a month (that's for the heads of department, year heads etc).

I have many friends who also teach here, many work in good international schools and simply don't bring home close to 100K. Mostly from the 60-80k bracket.

I am just curious as the article talks about the average salaries being 100k. I must be incredibly naive, but I don't see many places offering such packages here (unless of course it is in finance, or for multi national companies or some such)

Those international schools aren't as good as you think they are if that's all they're paying.

  5. well according to pattayas "new prostitute guide" if your not making over 100,000 the girls wont pay much attention to you.

its fun to watch the money dry up.

Thats fine I don't think any of them are into the girly bar scene anyways

The fact that there are people who aren't here for the women is about as bewildering to some posters here as the idea that some expats earn 100k a month.

They live in a narrow little world, bless them.

There is no doubt that there are a LOT of expats in Thailand who earns way in excess of 100,000 baht a month. A lot of them don't bother with TV

Most of the ones I know don't bother with it.

Still, those in the bar bullshit bubble will still presume they know better.

  6. Yeahhotelsinternational schools.very limed no of positions though aren't they?

Article makes it sounds like the average salary in pattaya for expats is 100K a month.

I know many that live in pattaya on salaries a lot more than 100k they don't work there though rather in Rayong or laem chabang

  7. all of that + getting my leg over with amenable girls half my age

In the UK, just pay them, lie them down, put a blanket over their head, then down to business.

And you guys wonder why women aren't interested in you back home.

Maybe you could work on your charm a little?

Being a musician and having the looks to match, I never had any problems getting Scottish birds.

There was always plenty of them interested.

Yeah. All the girls hang around hoping to meet the bass player, after all.

  8. Funny how incredulous some are about a fairly modest salary like 100k a month.

TBH, it's a bit low for an expat in a corporate job in Bkk.

But I am curious what specific job or industry in Pattaya pays 100K a monthI didn't know there were any company jobs going there, unless you count the shipping port at Laem Chanbang I thought the bingo players who manage go-gos were on 40-50K max.

They have international schools down there, dont they?

  9. I guess when you thought you were a big a fish in a small pond, it comes as a shock to learn you're really a bottom feeder.

Most western foreigners working in Thailand appear (to me) to be 'bottom feeders'. If you are good at making money, the place to make it is in the west.

Thailand is a place to play after work is finished. (if you didn't make enough to play in the west)

Old-fashioned thinking. The idea of working your whole life for a reward few years before you die no longer appeals. Young professionals like to work hard and play hard, and Bangkok is a great place to do so.

It's interesting how unaware the older expats are of this demographic. I suspect you simple dismiss any farang under 40 you see as a backpacker.

All my old friends in London (or their husbands) were looking for a 100,000+gbp bonus each year.

Some saved, some didn't, hardly any spent 'all their lives' working.

So you're in you mid 40s and not set for life?

No house in London, no investment portfolio, no corporate pension.

    Too bad.

As for work hard, play hard, I preferred not to work at all and have someone else provide.

    Men are so silly.

Yeah. Because you're a woman. Sure.
