Thai soapies make me sick when I watch them. The lack of any real/believable story line or the fact that, as mentioned, they all follow the same ridiculous story line makes me wonder if they have infact followed the same formula the American soapie writters have for many years.
Best thing to do when the missus is watching is tune out!
Have you ever listened to Thai music? they recycle the same words, just change the singer, tempo and rhythm.
And most Western songs are about what? Sex, Alcohol and Drugs, bitchy relationships.
If you would understand thai language and would really know thai life (not a "farang lives in thailand life") you would know that many thai find them self in these songs. If you like it or not you should accept it.
Music should make people happy. If it makes Thais happy then let them be happy.
I never mentioned Western music or eluded to it being better.
I have 30 years experience in Thailand and my Thai is very good.
When I mention the subject of my post to Thai's they get a good laugh out of it.
I never said that people shouldn't enjoy music or not be happy

Maybe they can just show 45 minutes of whitening cream ads instead.
And then have one hour of viewer phone in chat

Get them to switch to Coronation Street.... Tracey Barlow is quite a character now, and sure to amuse the Thais..
The Thais wouldn't get it

Cleaning the vast amounts of filth and garbage out of some of the klongs and rivers first might be a starting point before we worry about green buildings. Maybe I should join the queue at the junta with my petition on that.
Don't forget to put on a skimpy black dress and a cheesy smile for the photo shoot.

"Despite having a criminal record, Wanchai Saengkao, 22, used his connections to a relative who works for SRT to land a job cleaning trains, where he routinely got drunk and high."
"That relative even went so far as to conceal Wanchai’s criminal records, which included two drug-related prosecutions, according to Prapat."
Is this relative going to be fired and prosecuted ?
Or disappear under a rock somewhere, never to be seen or heard from again.

I don't have a credit card and never will.
It is getting difficult to live without...booking flights, buying things on the internet....
A debit Visa card will enable all of those things. No need for the credit part. Need to have the $$$ in the account though, obviously.
I use visa debit card If I don't have the money in my account I simply don't purchase it.

He should have dressed up like this, he would be a chick magnet for sure
I think the guy in front with the big hair-do is Joe The Poster !
I'll bet Joe owns shares in a condom factory.

I often pondered this myself, same as the OP. Thailand is a great place for foreigners to spend money; it's not a great place for foreigners to make money. The deck is stacked against you....as it should be. No country in the world would offer more opportunities to foreigners over its own citizens. That I get.
But to be fair, it could be a generational thing. My formative years growing up was in relative poverty, something I remember all to well. So as I was growing up, I was determined to become financially independent by the time I retired. Never wanted to be old, poor, and destitute. I've been so accustomed to this mentality that even now, when I don't even need the income, I'm still working and investing for that rainy day.
Perhaps the young expats in Thailand are not thinking that far ahead. They are living for today. I personally couldn't enjoy my life that way, always worrying about the future. But that's just me, I worry. To be young and just living for the moment, I suppose that could be the path to happiness. For the moment anyways.
No country in the world would offer more opportunities to foreigners over its own citizens.
Australia Does, not only do they hand out work visas like its the end of the world to people from the UK and New Zealand, they allow the big name companies outsource local work such as pay role, drafting, design, manufacturing to places like India referred to as the high value centers.

Sounds like a serious case of the Hairy lasso.
I knew that rice wasn't the only thing rotten in Nakhon Si Thammarat

I note they didn't mention the undemocratic appointment of proxy PM's and MP's put in place by ousted and exiled criminals.
And the appointment of friends and family to key government positions to allow the undemocratic passing of legislation etc...

Oi! Achara. You wrote a paradox: "Honestly, I don't think patriotism can be taught in school. I don't recall any teacher telling me, as a child, how to love my country. We were just ordered to be at school early enough to line up in front of the flagpole and sing the national anthem as the flag was raised."
Can you remember the words? : "Thailand embraces in its bosom all people of Thai blood
Every inch of Thailand belongs to the Thais
It has long maintained its sovereignty
Because the Thais have always been united
The Thai people are peace-loving
But they are no cowards at war
They shall allow no one to rob them of their independence
Nor shall they suffer tyranny
All Thais are ready to give up every drop of blood
For the nation's safety, freedom and progress."
No, patriotism is not taught in school, is it? You only sang it daily, as a matter of robotism.
Lining children up in front of a flag pole and saluting and singing the national anthem is nothing more than conditioning and brain washing.
This worked very well in the 1930's with the Nazi's, Hitler youth, Fascists and the Communists.
Teaching people why they should be proud of their country and why they should be united during a conflict and how they should conduct them selves during this event and how to take positive action together to find a democratic and patriotic solution.
This comes with great effort and planning, over time and with great perseverance and leadership by the heads of state.

It is hard to imagine that this poor girls last moments were filled with this extreme horror, pain and brutality.
How anyone can do this to a child and have no sense of right or wrong, conscience no remorse just has me completely baffled, and by reading the reenactment it seems that this was pre meditated.
Either way that person is nothing more than an animal and has no right to ever leave the confines of a prison cell.

I would torture him for a long period time until he wished he was dead, I'd then point blank blast the scums brains out! that's being of service to the public!
I would torture him for a long period time until he wished he was dead, Then tie him to an ants nest, then send what is left of the body to his parents so they can loose face and bring disgrace to their village

Working on a pipe line in Burkina Faso a few years ago, there was a crew of Thai men that were working there as Trades Assistants, doing all of the shit work that no one else wanted to do.
At night when we were in camp we could here them from there side of the camp beating up and raping the younger boys in the work crew, this went on for about two weeks, they thought it was all good fun and were very proud and happy to do this, until I informed the camp security and then they were them selves beaten to a pulp with AK47 rifle buts and army boots.
We didn't hear any more night time raping of young boys in that camp again.

" Thailand's justice system is not reliable enough to be responsible for decisions about life and death."
Says it all, really.
I don't believe any justice system in the world is responsible enough for such decisions. The legal system is a game played by lawyers for profit, not justice.
And political gain.

"Death penalty is not the solution to rape"
But Chemical Castration is!! and would send a serious message to the serial rapists in this country who think that rape is a normal part of Thai culture and accepted through the male Thai society.

Australia has stopped exports of beef and sheep to Indonesia and Pakistan many times over the past few years when is was revealed by secret filming of animals being tortured before they prayed Allah Akbar and cut their throats'
Pakistan's excuse was that the sheep were diseased and the indos said it wasn't them and it was a set up.
