  1. There is absolutely a crackdown from customs in the past month, which I've confirmed with a local employed in logistics, and have also just experienced first hand. I periodically order tea from overseas - personal amounts from 300-400 grams, which as clearly labelled as being for non-resale, personal use with accompanying documentation from the sender. It's never been a problem previously, but to make a long story short, after nearly 2 weeks of going back and forth with customs, I was told that according to the new law, no amount of tea can be sent into Thailand unless the receiver has a license for importation granted by the FDA, and I must therefore either 1.) forfeit my shipment or 2.) license myself as an importer. Multiple people could not state any details about this law, although one person stated it was instituted about one month ago.

I could find no relevant or updated documentation - in Thai or English - on the customs web site, which makes me wonder what the status and scope of these new laws they refer to are. As ridiculous as this law seems, if it is the law then so be it, but I do have an issue if they do not make the update available to the public, or if multiple people in customs cannot give any specifics about the stated law.

No new law, just enforced rules, and your are right, it's because of the army that is checking all the shipments usually coming with help of tea money...

  2. In Laos, Vientiane, you need a business visa & workpermit, if you are a farang. Thais don't need a visa for the first 30 days so I don't know.

ANZ Bank, Australia-New Zealand Bank, issues Visa Cards, you can call them to ask.

BCEL Bank also issues Visa Cards, and has Internet Banking.

You can get a work-permit and 1 year Business Visas from many companies (without working), for around US$ 650.-

    Helo,

Can you give companies names to get a work permit and 1 year visa in laos ?

    Thanks.

  3. 3 years ago I left Thailand to live in Laos and set up a business.

One of my first tasks was to find a Lao bank to open an account with to deposit cash. BCEL (Banque Commerce Exterieur Laos) was my obvious choice as it is the most 'westernized' bank with modern branches, internet banking facilities and issues Visa/Mastercard cards. However upon applying to open an account, BCEL required a copy of your B-2 work visa and Work Permit booklet - having just arrived, this was out of the question as the paperwork was still in process.

Thus I tried LDB (Laos Development Bank). Although they did not issue Visa/Mastercard cards (they do now), I was able to open a standard Thai Baht deposit account (you have the choice of THB, USD or LAK accounts), with no questions asked - no need to show Work Permit, B-2 visa, residency etc. It certainly made life easier - although I could not withdraw money oversees, atleast I had a local ATM card and my money was safe.

To my knowledge, they still are the 'easiest' bank to open an account with in Laos. However, BCEL -by far- is the best developed and customer friendly, and it is advisable to change to a BCEL account as soon as possible to have international ATM withdrawal flexibility.

As mentioned before, this was 3 years ago but I cannot believe that LDB have changed their policies since. This is probably your best choice to deposit money in Laos - get issues with a domestic LDB ATM card and 'book bank', and withdraw at LDB ATMs or branches in Vientiane or elsewhere as you wish.

    regards

    Hello,

Thank you for your post, but can you tell if LATER the LDB bank asked your work permit or if you could still use this account as a tourist ? (without telling).

    Thank you.

  4. Hello,

I hate having choice, this is so ridiculous, why don't they sell only 1, the best one ?

Can you tell me what to choose ?

    Thanks.

If you hate choice so much, I'm guessing you drive either a Vigo or a Fortuner, and the whole dating thing has been driving you nuts your whole life? tongue.png

In any case, the best has already been revealed here - it's glass coating with a 250 week advantage over the rest wink.png When it comes to spray-on wipe-off detailers, just choose the one that smells best to you, because that's the only product you're going to be using regularly once you have glass smile.png

I hate choosing stupid things as detergent or car wax !!!

Just sell me the best price and that's all, why having dozen of different products as if it was not just retardd marketing !

So you mean that nothing beats glass coating at 50000 thb ? But do you really trust these shops that open and close daily ?

Giving 50000 to a monkey who might not be here tomorrow anymore to make sure that what he did on my car was good enough is a bit risky...

And no, I do not drive a Japanese car, otherwise I don't think I would even care washing it !!!

  5. Why do they think that most of visa runners are english teachers. Kinda strange for me.

This new rules affected many people who spend more than 60+ baht each month and not work in Thailand.

P.S. Damn English teachers, why innocent should suffer because of your sins? If you work in Thailand got work permit, what's wrong with you i though western people are good enough to respect the laws.

Important post from the one who know nothing and does not understand more.

  6. From Klang turn right onto suk road. A few hundred metres down on the right is a showroom with flash cars/jetskis and what not on display.... right next door to that is a panel beating shop. they can sort you scratches.

How did you purchase a vehicle from next year ?

The people I used and was very satisfied with were the same direction as spoonman says but "left hand " side travelling south on Sukhumvit......the sign name was in blue writing...sorry also cannot remember the name

One piece of advice....when I sold the car to the Bkk Vigo dealer, they went all around the vehicle with a paint meter and identified that the paint was not original.....even though it was a perfect match....I think that I would use the dealership in future

Paint meter ? Their nose ?

  7. It happens from time and it's even ridiculous to try to find why ! They don't know and will never know.

Just get a second connection, maybe TRUE or TOT and then you will be fine in case of problem with 3bb, this is the only smart reply that you will get as there is not other one possible.

  8. Nice car ! Does your insurance pay for the scratch and how did it happen ? Nobody scratch nice cars here ?

Did you buy at Benz Chonburi or importer ? I wonder if its the same price and why some people buy from importers ?

Did you get any freebies ? Discount and free windows ?

Very interested to buy a nice car soon also.
