  1. This issue is pretty silly isn't it ?

Let's get real here. A man from England will be in Thailand, he's 55 years old, and has one or two ex-wives back home. Now, he's not going to get a girl-friend who is 33 in England, so, simple, he's in Thailand, and he can get a girl-friend who is 33 a lot easier than back home.

What about younger men who get a Thai girlfriend ? Okay, if you are male and 35 years old, and you try and go out with a Thai girl who is 25, and this is back home in England or Australia. Well, if she was raised in England/Australia, well, your chances of going out with her are about the same as trying to go out with any other girl in England/Australia. Also, you will notice that Thai girls (and all the other coloured girls raised in England) behave almost the same as all the other girls. It's not really the case that it's easier to go on a date with somebody coloured rather than 'white'.

What if you are 35 years old, you're in Thailand, and you try and go out with a Thai girl is 25 ? We've got to get real here. The lady might speak reasonable English, but her culture and thinking is not going to be the same as yours. She's unlikely to be from a rich family, and that means it does boil down to you financially supporting her. If you don't, well, it will end in tears.

And let's just say your Thai girlfriend is from a rich family, unlikely, but it might happen. In that case, it's likely you're going to have to buy all sorts of status symbols and expensive stuff to keep her. She won't want you in the first place unless she thinks you've got money. And once you're with her, well, it will cost you money to support her.

I'm sorry, but in all honesty, why get a Thai girlfriend if you can get one back home ? If you're in Thailand for work, because the job in Bangkok pays more than the job in London, fine, you're going to stay for a few years, fine, get a Thai girlfriend whilst you're in Thailand. But do remember, the extra problems involved in such relationships.

most young (under 40) mixed marriages i know both partners work, including my own. we pool our money the same as any western relationship.

  2. Has anybody informed the government , that as everybody is supposed to carry ID . Just ensure that every establishment selling alcohol. Checks ID first .. In England now that works very well , ( you just get hundreds of drunkun 20 something's rolling round the street centres on a Friday night ) different story .. But <deleted> .. Just enforce the law .. , 7-11, " how old are you ? , ". " 21 " ... You have id , ? " yes " .... Ok ...... No , the fanta red is over there ..

.. "jah" says the youth, leaves, then comes back 20 minutes later with a pickup full of 15 mates who throw ping pong bombs all round the shop..

  3. people keep mentioning 7/11 or tescos wont have it but they dont sell alcohol from their gas station branches, on election/buddhist days or outside legal hours so what makes anyone think they will sell within 300m of a school if ordered not to?

  4. ...considering there are practically no rights associated with this display and outlay of cash....the laws should absolutely be ammended...

...the right to bring your money over....put everything in your wife's name...and then be kicked to the curb.....

...end result...egomaniac 'victim' wives.....broken homes and families....and scarred children.....

...the focus has too easily become money...capital...assets....

    ...not marriage...family....love.......

..a partnership has to be equal...equal rights.....

    ...not a lopsided rendition.....

...as it stands now...the laws...and lack of them...perpetuate this gross...perverse...injustice...

...with foreign men often losing all...including the children.....

i don't think it's a visa requirement to put all your money in your spouse's name cheesy.gif

  5. Best place to apply for a visa in the UK is the Thai consualte in Hull. They accept postal applications and deal wit them quickly.

What a pity that some members cannot be bothered to check the accuracy of what they state before posting nonsense which is clearly intended to confuse, mislead and misinform others

oh dear you'll never become a mod replying with that attitude nzexpat. have a look at the reply from ubonjoe as to how to handle incorrect information without being so condescending.

  6. I'd venture that those who would prefer to save 150 baht on a tuk tuk who will take you there and wait for you and take you back to the bus station are the same kind of people who would try to bargain down the price of a plate of noodles. Personally, I prefer comfort but others might prefer the 150 baht in their pocket.

some people like to walk because its good for you and keeps you fit, not everything is about money wai2.gif

  7. To some of the questions above, unfortunately, Singkhorn isn't yet open to us farangs.

All that's changed is that Myanmar and Thais are able to use the crossing 7 days per week, whereas before it was only open for them to cross on Saturdays.

It would be really handy for folk living in Cha Am, Hua Hin and Pranburi etc if Singkhorn was open to farangs. I guess it probably will be at some point in the future.

as the poster noted above it will get swamped with bangkok and surrounding ares too

  8. Same here they came to check because there are no kids. It is ok if they do that once.. and interview the neighbors (like they did in my case)

But if they will come here every year it starts to become boring. I would say check it good once (they even went up into the bedroom) and then let it be.

Funny thing is they never want to see real pics of the relation (holiday pics and such and pictures of her in my country) but only the mandatory pics that can be faked easily.

i did my extension today in hua hin and the only thing wrong was the pics we submitted last year were not acceptable this year because we had the same clothes on in each picture. apparently this can be easily faked so they sent us home to take more pics. the first two we took outside the house and for the next two i put a tracksuit top on. that was acceptable!

also this year i had way more money than the standard 400K in an account and no questions about income, working, etc.. i guess money talks afterall

  9. Brainless morons ( police ) are incapable themselves of driving/riding safely so any contribution they may make to cyclists would be the equivalent of asking Steven Hawking to listen to an Amoeba.

haha true. the nearest miss i've had is 2 traffic police cars pulling straight out in front of me while i had right of way on a major road
