Sorry to say, but I'm starting to think you'd be better off with a small car, like you mentioned in your OP.
yes, maybe, it would definately be the safer option i think.

kiss food, 2nd road in pattaya has something like this, i dont know if its a service charge or vat but the bill is allways slightly more . i never bother to ask.

what about this bike, the money looks ok for a 2013 reg. whats the difference in this and the ern 650. also what is the maximum tyre size/width of tyre i can put onto a ern 650cc
i also like this - https://www.kaidee.com/product-113246018/ good price ?
I don't know too much about the price of an ER6 but it reads that it's been little used.
Try and get the maximum bolt-on extras such as power commander, upgraded suspension and a decent pipe.
Forget about the Z250 - with a 650 you get a nice balance of power, longevity and value for money. Maybe, you don't have a whole load of experience .. 650 is a nice start if you show it some respect.
your right, i no absolutely zilch about bikes, i like the look and feel of the 650 ERN. if i am going to buy a bike this will be the one, as i say i have read a few reviews and it seems these bikes are good in town and on open roads, good handling and of course they look great. i like the look of a bike like this with the big rear fat tyre, seen that on a ducati a few times so would like to have a big fat tyre on the ern , would this make handling any different ?
PS. i do not go for speed, once hit a pot hole in isaan at 125 kph , near put me off the road. i dont fancy doing the same on a bike and i suspect you wouldnt get up alive if this happened on a bike.

did the same idiots not recently make teaching in thailand much harder and much harder to obtain ED visa etc scratching head in disbelief. again

This would be OK if they had a good system of public transport. The lack of metered taxis here is a real pain.
Sure but that still does not excuse drinking and driving.. sure you will get gouged for hiring a baht bus but if you can afford to get drunk you can afford that ride too. You might even take a cheap hotel to sleep it off.
Agreed. But 2 beers in an hour or so puts you over the limit and at risk of going to jail. It's been documented these devices are not 100% accurate here. Impossible to get a baht bus near my house. And very difficult to get them if you are away from Central Pattaya. Try finding any sort of transport near the lake after midnight. Very difficult, and no hotels are right next to many of these establishments.
Again, lack of metered taxis, like in Bangkok, is a real problem.
motorbike taxi on every corner.

if i did decide to get one of these would they be comfortable on say a 500 mile trip obviously putting a stop in here and there. i have been offered a 2013 model for 160.000 which seems reasonable, i love the look of these bikes and i have read that they are ideal for around town also. i would only be doing a long journey say once per every couple of months.
im stuck between buying a bike or a small car to get around while in thailand.

Sounds more like an advertisement for Cambodia.. I never heard anything positive about living in Cambodia. I have found it to be a filthy country. In addition, if you are retired and have a government pension, will your country pay you your pension [direct deposit] while living in a communist country. Mine won't.
Cambodia is not a communist country. At least check Wikipedia before posting.
it is no more dirty than bkk , thailand . i doubt that this person has even been to cambodia. sihanoukville would be my choice anyday, been there a few times and loved it. i also think dark skinned khmer woman are very beautifull .
why stay in thailand when all they do is f*@* k us over again and again.

my gf has asked me to come down there and live with her in ban chang, she cant move away due to her job. anyway im just seeking any advice of what its like to live there, things to do etc. according to her not much lol. im interested in any gyms , muay thai gyms, mma gyms or even tennis courts / clubs , any decent beaches nearby or maybe nearer to rayong, any nightlife at all as in bars , resturaunts etc. i will go stay with her for a few weeks to get the feel of the place but i dont want to be sat down there twiddling my thumbs and pulling my hair out with boredom. i think on a positive note , koh chang is not that far away or is pattaya and also utapao airport and its not exactly out in the sticks.
also she lives in a smallish room, not my style. if i did go stay with her i would like to rent a small house for a year initially, so any info on where to rent a nice room ,small house per year.
cheers

Medellin is a rat hole.
really, an explanation would be helpfull.............. and bkk isnt ?
-
too many americans in panama...
lol, thats the only thing thats putting me off
-
Medellin seems to be a bit of a red herring. No sensible long-term visa arrangements and high taxes put it right off the menu as far as I'm concerned.
A shame as the cost of living and climate and language would be perfect for me, and all other things being equal (for example, the availability of foreign restaurants) I would go there like a shot.
how is 180 days ( 6 months ) that bad, you get nothing like this oppotunity in thailand.

Stay as you are. Do not make home in her name.ever !! I have a house sitting in isaan gathering dust or maybe her families living there now. 2 years ago we were still in love with a beautifull 6 year old daughter . Now its over. Funny old world but these unseen things happen to everyone. Invest in nothing. Keep your money in your bank tell her nothing, would she tell you ? Would she build house in your name ? No she wouldnt.

why were they all not fitted with PLB,s ( personal locator beacon ) beforehand, this obviously would have been the most sensible thing to do saving millions of baht in rescue ops..
