  1. Unfortunately they seem to follow their own rules of logic. The 200k quadrupled to 800k in 2003. A few years later extension fees quadrupled, overstay daily rate nearly trebled. Mandatory insurance on Non O-A octupled after the first couple of years, and despite early assurances there was no grandfathering. Oh and the 20 year Elite just quintupled.
  2. The raise was in 2003, the grandfathering was for those who'd been on extensions at least 5 years prior.
  3. Yes, I was told about it at last extension and when I went in to do the transfers the bank book was one of the first things I was asked for. No bank letter needed, but a same day deposit and the book updated. This is my concern, as there'd be a period of time without the deposit between the Elite payment and affixing the sticker and cancelling the extension. Although I agree with @BritTim that the only thing that should be a problem is the next extension becomes invalidated, I fear they're becoming so pedantic about this that they might view the unfunded period as an overstay.
  4. What did they ask for when you went? I have to go to CW and do an in person 90 day report for new passport soon.
  5. Apps are becoming the only online option available, SCB and Krungthai are just two banks who've done away with their online banking in recent months. The apps do work over Wi-Fi and an OTP is only required for certain functions (eg. cardless withdrawals which needs the sim there in the phone), but for many things it's not needed. You'll need to visit the bank with passport and bank book to set up the app in the first instance. If you do use a spare phone make sure it's not too old - on Android some of the bank apps only run on the more recent versions.
  6. Yes, I'm talking about cancelling the extension based on a Non O. I've never heard of anyone penalised, but I was also surprised that the Non O extension needed to be formally cancelled at all. If approval is required to cancel it, then don't immigration need to check the conditions of stay have been complied with (that the monies have been deposited throughout)? There's a thread on a private Elite Facebook group that's discussing this right now which states that showing up to cancel the Non O extension requires bringing the up to date bank information, and the same is true of the two links I've attached. For certain there won't be problems with the bank regarding moving the money out, but will there be a problem showing up later with an unfunded period of time on the extension at immigration?
  7. Forget Soi Nana, it's a clip joint. You want Soi NaNa, down in Chinatown. Don't forget Phil Lynott's warning though... "Down in Chinatown What goes up it must come down"
  8. From my recent experience transferring Non O stamps to a new passport mid year, they were highly pedantic about seeing the 800k in the bank book on the day of getting this done, which goes against the idea that it's only something required to qualify for the next extension. Reading threads regarding transferring out monies after switch to an LTR visa (as well as agent advice on the subject) the general view is that the 800k cannot be moved until after the visa is cancelled. Is immigration going to make a problem if showing up to cancel the Non O when the monies were already transferred out some days earlier? https://www.thailandelite-direct.com/en/blog/post/cancellation-of-non-immigrant-o-visa https://aseannow.com/topic/1293700-ltr-and-the-800000-baht-bank-account/
  9. Never have sex with a miner in the workplace. It's the pits.
  10. "Are you Old Money? Or Nouveau Riche?" I don't see the option for Old, No Money.
  11. Whenever I ask the post office for EMS on both the outbound and the return envelopes they've given me a sticker for the one I'm sending and stamps (37฿) affixed to the one I've enclosed. This was always fine with Chaengwattana, last time was a few weeks ago.
  12. Thanks, I've read misinformation on this in the past regarding use of the 800k for hospital bills invalidating the current extension, but looks like this is not the case. One other situation where proof of financials is needed is mid-year transfer of stamps to new passport, not sure if this is a new requirement. Also, does the Non O have to be cancelled at immigration - I've read mention about people making appointment for cancelling the O and getting the new PE stamp affixed on the same day?
  13. The PE visa stamp will be affixed showing date of application, any existing permission to stay on the Non O is lost. Regarding getting the stamp affixed, I understand Thailand Elite facilitate this. However there's a number of days between payment and getting the new stamp. This leaves someone on a Non O extension of stay who uses the 800k deposit as payment for the Elite exposed and technically on overstay for perhaps a couple of weeks. Isn't it necessary to change visa class in order to use this money to pay for the new visa?
  14. Turnaround is much less now, mine was 3½ weeks recently. You could probably apply around May. If you did keep the old passport beyond next July it's fine for everything out here, only restriction is no travel or transit allowed through an EU country.
  15. Similar thoughts here. Wondering if it'd be necessary to leave Thailand and come back on a visa exempt entry in order to access the money to pay, given that the unfunded period on the Non O between payment and having the PE sticker affixed could constitute an overstay?
  16. I've waited as long as 6 weeks before to get the reply from Chaengwattana, though typical timescale would be 3-4 weeks using EMS both directions. No need to rush in.
  17. In the Luftwaffe canteen they used to serve Nazi Göring.
  18. A friend told me he picked up a nice looking fiddle in there. But turned out the action left a lot to be desired, the truss rod was bent and the nut was too high. To add insult to injury, there was an ugly ding on the lower bout close to the f hole.
