    How would you feel being escorted to the execution chamber knowing you were innocent ?

    Very few Thai men have close Thai friends, let alone foreign friends, outside their family. During my lifetime I had three close friends, none of them Thai. Quite a few Thai and other acquaintances though, but I would not describe them as friends in the true meaning of the word.

    Thailand showed a degree of maturity in easing the laws against the use of cannabis. The reasons being given for going back to the previous legislation are pious garbage. If sensibly but not over- controlled this is good business for Thais and for Thailand.

    It is stupid beyond belief to use violence against the police in any country, whatever the circumstances. This is bad for the reputation of all Westerners in Thailand.

    No idea why you want to help someone who uses violence against women, however, first step would be to tell him to apply for a visa with a new passport and see what happens.

    Expect a cover-up regarding the extent of the injuries suffered by the sailors who were caught in the firing line.

    Best to hold fire for now on the Thaksin issue. The MFP is walking a tightrope and will probably be disbanded however the debate goes. Amazing to think of the MFP's success in the election compared to where they currently find themselves. Never mind, the time will come for their supporters. A combination of patience and resolve required to see them through to that point.

    That's the way things are in Thailand. If foreigners don't like it better to find somewhere else to live or visit.

    Problem is too many males on arrival in Thailand depart the airport with their testes in place but without their brains.

    First step, become fluent in spoken and written Thai. If that is too difficult, forget about assimilation. You will never achieve it.

    In Taiwan for 5 years my neighbour had three male pitbulls. They were a delight. Friendly, and full of fun. They were, however, properly cared for by their owner. In this case the death of the owner played a part, no doubt, and we have not been told what triggered the attack.

    Unfortunately we are let down by a few of our number who are thuggish, rude and thick.
