  1. Sure there will be a reasonable explanation if he's brought his wallet.
  2. There seems to be too much mimicking of the USA these days in Thailand how these shootings at concerts and shopping malls are taking place with increased frequency. The similarity between these two countries is the relative ease with which youngsters are getting hold of very dangerous weapons.
  3. She won't be going skint anytime soon on the back of this. The hyperbole alone on her Michelin one-star for a street food place assures that. Anybody who thinks that Pad Kapao and a crab omelette deserve 1500 baht wants their head testing, Similarly, I need mine testing for buying her noodles the other day in Lotus. Yep, she's now flogging dried noodles nationwide at about 50 baht a pop. I think normal Tom Yam noodles are around 7 or 8 baht a bag, aren't they? They weren't worth the price difference, with or without a Michelin star.
  4. What they say and what they do are two different things as you should know. One statement is there to soothe and satisfy the general public, and the reality occurs after it has died down.
  5. He should face charges, but extremely unlikely. One of his police pals probably did the breathalyser at the hospital. He should be, but he won't be. This is the RTP and they make the rules up as they go along. So your outrage is a waste of energy.
  6. Makes you think sometimes. Just how fragile life can be.
  7. Some silly jokes on here about his living accommodation. To me, it shows the primitive and sad conditions they have to put up with when they are making a living. RIP, 30 years old, sad to die at that age, and not much to look forward to daily.
  8. Hope you all noticed but just forgot to mention it today: He is BRITISH. Fancy that, all you British haters, A Brit doing good things in Thailand and one of the few occasions, it gets noticed.
  9. @Bangkok Barry This charity cause is now very widely advertised on British TV for children with clefts, you might be pleased to know.
  10. First, well done to the man, and I like many others just hope it reaches where he intended it to go. Every little helps as they say. When I had the businesses in Pattaya, I did quite a lot for Baan Jing Jai, ( a lesser-known orphanage) Pattaya Orphanage, ( which had funds coming in from all over, so I stopped) and an Orphanage in Rayong. We tried to give products as opposed to cash as in, sacks of Rice, toiletries, school books, cuddly teddy bears, etc as they hopefully then went to the young kids. The problem for many charity fundraisers is that there are so many deserving causes and not enough people who have cash to support them. It's the same the world over. It's usually those that have the least, that help the most.
  11. Pretty amazing in this day and age.
  12. One thing that doesn't stop insurgents is giving in to them because they will always push for more and return to armed conflict when they don't get their way.
  13. He needs to get out and manage the country instead of this nonsense.
  14. I was thinking the same and I wouldn't put my trust in a young waiter or waitress, regardless of any assurances.
  15. Why don't they just allow the people of the country to live and let live. Why the need to feel they must interfere at every juncture? They don't allow the country to mature and grow up. It is micro-managing people's lives while ignoring the elephant in the room, rampant corruption, cronyism in government, out-of-control road deaths due to laws not enforced, and a police force not fit for purpose. etc
  16. Not his property, he is only renting., All that over-the-top fuss for a lady sitting on a bloody step. He needs his head tested and so does his big-mouthed wife.
  17. Much ado about nothing. I would willingly pay 1200 baht for a four-hour tour in a tuk tuk and I know most other people would.
  18. Final upshot guys on this debacle. We were already aware that the warranty doesn't cover broken screens or dropped phones. I took it to the Samsung service centre in Roi Et today as I said I would, They have quoted 2500 baht, to fix the screen and all other issues and the warranty stays intact for internals and software until November 2024. So, forget the fuel costs, as I called in at Makro, the 2500 baht that was refunded, is now going for proper repairs at an authorized centre. RESULT. Lesson learned and note to self: if I have any problems with the Samsung or any Samsung in the future, get in the car, drive to Roi Et, and trust nobody in franchise shops. And that particular Samsung franchise has lost any chance of selling any of us a phone in the future.
  19. Yeah, but then they want to return a phone that they have broken and can't fix. They, of course, don't want to accept responsibility and give a new replacement phone. Incidentally, all other shops in this area, including the franchisee Advice Centre IT send them to Samsung. Anyway, off for a trip to Roi Et, as I have bugger all else to do and may kill two birds with one stone and call in it Makro. I agree, and that's why I have made a full official complaint to try and make them think they cannot just carry on like this regardless.
  20. Just hate them thinking they've pulled a fast one and got away with it with no recourse. If it makes them think twice, good!
  21. I forgot to tell you guys, when we collected the phone, that not content with voiding my warranty by opening the phone up without permission and not sending it to Samsung, the screen they had replaced, they have taken out and put the broken one back in place of it. I am going to lay it all out politely to Samsung repairs tomorrow and get their views as recommended by Bangkok today. Disgusted isn't the word. But, they do the usual cowardly way and block direct access to themselves by hiding behind staff, leaving customers to vent their anger at them instead. There was no miscommunication whatsoever with them. They did something I specifically asked them not to do, and that was trying to fix it themselves, to squeeze more profit. There is another local phone seller here by the name of Advice IT, I have dealt with them on numerous occasions and bought computers, printers, phones etc and whenever there has been a phone issue, they have always sent it to the Samsung repair shop in Roi Et. I don't know why she decided on this occasion to buy from Samsung in the Lotus supermarket.
  22. They actually do know us at Roi Et and tend to be a little more professional. I'll try and see what they say tomorrow, I don't mind an hour's drive to get there, it gets me out of this madhouse, where we live. It seems to be bloody everything though, as soon as they have the cash, that's it, they don't want to know. You say it's under warranty or guarantee, and they just say contact the company. Not like Tesco or Curry's in the UK or any decent company over there, You take it back with your receipt and no quibbles, it's sorted there and then.
  23. I phoned Bangkok, and they have said take it to Roi Et and explain the situation and tell them you have spoken to Bangkok, and this is what they recommended. I will, of course, pass this over to Madam, to sort out. It seems to be everything, as soon as they've sold it, they aren't interested and don't want to know.
  24. I agree with you on watching the Speedo, I became addicted to it. Then I found I had hired a Peugeot 2008, (they said they had upgraded me from a Ford Focus), and the great thing about the car was it had a speed limit indicator in the middle of the speedometer. It adjusted automatically as you travelled in speed zones from 20, to 30 to 40 etc,.................... I loved it. If you exceeded the limit, it would keep flashing at you. I thought, What a great idea. Why don't all new cars have these. Another plus, on the motorway, if I drifted too close to another lane and before the thumping of running over cats eyes, it would again issue a warning.
  25. The phone value was 9000 baht. The screen was cracked, and they quoted 2500 baht, that was their quote, from a Samsung dealership, for a cracked screen. The shop is an authorized Samsung seller/dealer. I told them to send it to Samsung repairs. The nearest repair shop from Samsung is in Roi Et, I have been many times over the years. They didn't do that. They tried to fix it themselves, in their probably grubby workshop nearby, and now there are other issues with the phone, which was bought brand new. The first fault should not have been carried out by those with the Samsung franchise, authorized to sell, but not repair, phones. It should have been sent to Roi Et, where I requested it to be sent. On your Samsung flip, it must be out of warranty, to get such a bill. That's the difference, mine isn't. What if it had been an expensive Samsung flip, and they just tried to palm me off with a refund on a screen, but in reality they had messed up the whole phone?
