  1. With the DTV being granted by the MFA at a Thai Embassy, I doubt that immigration would have access to the precise category that the applicant used as their reason when applying for the DTV. The MFA and Immigration work independently.
  2. Well, good for you. Tens of millions and health insurance—congratulations. But what exactly does that contribute to this discussion, other than a bit of chest-thumping? Nobody's disputing the importance of being prepared. That’s been said plenty. But when someone’s down and out, stating how you’re all sorted doesn’t really help anyone but your ego. There’s a difference between being responsible and being smug. One tries to raise awareness or offer guidance. The other just stands on a soapbox shouting, “Look at me, I did it right!” If you’ve got the means and the experience, how about offering advice or practical help instead of just telling the rest of us how clever you are?
  3. It’s just baffling how people end up in these messes. You sit there wondering—how did it get this bad? The guy had hundreds of thousands of baht at one point. That’s not nothing. He could’ve flown home. He could’ve got himself to Bangkok and accessed proper care months ago. But no. It drags on until he’s out of money, out of options, and now we’re expected to feel shocked it’s come to this. And honestly, I don’t even know if he had health insurance—but I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t. Far too many don’t bother. “Too expensive,” they say. Or “it’s a scam.” Until they’re in a hospital corridor or stuck in a rented room, half-dead, with no safety net and a GoFundMe link someone else is now sharing around. Where’s the personal responsibility? You move abroad, you’re not on holiday any more. You’re not 25 and invincible. You need to have a plan. Not only that, but you need to take care of yourself, because no one else will. I really do hope he gets the help he needs—but sitting in a bed in Rayong, completely stuck, isn’t a treatment plan. It’s a tragedy. And one that didn’t need to happen.
  4. Whitby or Scarborough, it is then. Unless he wants to visit Ecuador, Honduras, or Colombia, where I am sure he will fit in.
  5. In Kalasin, where I am, immigration is generally excellent, unlike the nightmares I've read about here. I have been in Thailand for 30 years, although I have been here for 20 years. I am on a retirement extension until next month, when I will switch to DTV. Throughout all that time, I have had only one immigration visit. They phoned in advance, but it was around the time of all that trouble when the doctor had her back kicked by the Austrian who ran the elephant sanctuary, I think it was in Phuket or somewhere, and they were conducting checks on foreigners. They did speak to the neighbours, which was the MIL. We don't have any other neighbours. The immigration staff knew friends of my partner, and everything was done pleasantly in 15 minutes. One of the perks of living upcountry, everyone knows everyone. They even took photos of us in the driveway; my MIL insisted on being included as well.
  6. He still manages to dye his hair, even that little bit that he has left. What a waste of colour.
  7. All I will say is any offerings and suggestions above are bound to be better than what I bought for steak this last week from Lotus's. Absolutely lousy, my jaw hurt, and I gave up and passed it to the dogs. The second piece, I tried slow cooking, still tough as shoe leather but not as tasty. I'll try some of the above suggestions.
  8. Significantly grown-up responses I see.
  9. And that is what scared me and why I didn't move to them. If it sounds too good to be true...... Plus, I am hearing very mixed reports about this company.
  10. With all these explosive devices being planted, we might need the military to come in and take over to save the country! Didn't we have a similar problem last time, shortly before the military took over?
  11. Any talk about exhibitions and events is to ' flower up ' and make casinos palatable in the application, which is the true nature of what they are seeking, to benefit a ' FEW ' and certainly not the Thai people.
  12. It's about time they either passed it or binned it forever. Instead, it just keeps coming up every year or so, a bit like the one rai of land for foreign investors to own and build a house on.
  13. I think there are limits on the amount of time you can spend in Thailand on a travel insurance plan. To my knowledge, it isn't open-ended, nor was it intended to be.
  14. It wasn't a firm called Global investments in Bangkok, was it?
  15. No, It's now a family friendly, vibrant tourist destination
  16. That is not correct. Many of the life and death sentence for drug cases are sent to Bang Kwang prison. It goes on the sentence, not the offence.
  17. Makes the Swedish guy look like he only stole lunch money compared to this .
  18. I care about as much of the unwashed as I do about your boring, predictable, baiting posts.
