Frozen pension? Consider the Philippines, no frozen pension, with those moley faced women with whiney accents, and religious nutcases. Then stay here on your frozen pension. -

I wish mine was 500 baht a month. Move to a big house, you'll save a lot more!.🙄 -
How much reduction for the bag of oranges left behind? Actually, if you look properly, the condo has been trashed, but look through the damage, and it's been kept relatively clean and in good condition. Looking at the floors and surfaces. I think this is a classic case of trying to pinch the deposit, hence the owner keeping schtum regards deposit.

Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm

I do find price gouging and cheating commonplace in Bangkok and resorts with high tourist traffic, but isn't that the same the world over in densely packed tourist resorts and capital cities? -
Travel Rising Prices, Broken Systems Dim Thailand’s Tourist Charm

There is a wide variety of things to do in Isaarn, but you must be proactive and find them. They are unlike Pattaya and/or Phuket with giant billboards offering their wares for the tourist traps. What does Isaarn offer? Well, what a question. There are 19 provinces, each with its vibe and culture, from food to customs. It isn't a one-size-fits-all. No, it isn't a beachy area; it's the rice basket of Thailand. There are some outstanding resorts and hotels with beautiful grounds and swimming pools. Some people find it too laid-back, slow, and quiet, while others, like me, love and miss the place when we venture away from it and are always happy to return. Those looking for hands-free bars, Russian mafias, rude foreigners, steer clear, they aren't many up here and long may it continue. -

Decisions, decisions, where to stay in retirement?
Scouse123 replied to simon43's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
No, not at all, But many of those who move up here expect it to be a smaller or mini version of Pattaya, etc., and it isn't at all. A different mindset and pace of life take some getting used to; many can't manage it and rush back to the bright lights of the cities. I love it. -
Report Rangsiman Rome Refutes Rolex Rumours with Seiko Revelation
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I had a Rolex, bi-metal, black-faced oyster, which I bought secondhand 30 years ago for 2,000 GBP. I sold it 18 months ago for 9500 GBP. With that, I had eye surgery in Harrogate at 4500 GBP and can now see clearly. I got my wife a 10-year UK visa for around 1,000 GBP. I also had the driveway at the Kalasin house redone in non-slip tiles for 1000 GBP. We went on a mini trip around Isaan, Thailand. I gave Mrs 45,000 baht and some of the rest to MIL. It had sat in the safe for years, and I didn't want to risk wearing or losing it in Thailand, or even the UK these days. So, in my view, it was dead money. I now have an Edifice watch valued at 4500 THB. It tells the time equally well, and it doesn't cost 1,000 GBP to service. Money well spent in my book. -
Everywhere around the world, countries are bending over backwards to accommodate Muslims from wherever they hail, usually to the detriment of the native population. However, very little coverage goes to the appalling way Christians are mistreated, beheaded, attacked, in Muslim countries. Non Muslims in Muslim countries have no rights whatsoever. They have no voice and don't exist and are treated and subjected to terror equally, if not more, than anything Muslims have suffered at the hands of non Muslims. But, that must all be ignored and swept under the carpet. Maybe, if Muslims just tried a bit to assimilate where they settle, as opposed to Islamise everywhere they are, or seek special dispensations all the time, based on their ' religion ' , then maybe their lives might be better.

Nothing wrong with Isaarn, mind you, even better if not many come here. We don't want the old, miserable faces of pensioners who can no longer afford Pattaya. There's already a noticeable few drifting up this way. -

Report IKEA Goes Cashless at Key Thai Stores Amid Mixed Reactions
Scouse123 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Slightly off-topic, They are forcing us into this cashless society on the pretence that customer habits and preferences are changing. My Barclays bank branch in the UK, in a busy town centre high street, introduced a number of cash paying-in and withdrawal machines in the foyer. As customers entered, they were directed to these machines rather than counter service. They even had a designated staff member assisting them in their use. Three months later, they closed the branch and said people's choices and preferences had changed, and customers were now more focused on doing their banking online. The nearest branch now is in another town and is eight miles away. -

Spot on. The sparkle went off Pattaya a long time ago. You can call it nostalgia, but the Pattaya of today is a dump of poor-quality tourists compared to the Pattaya of the 1990s. -
