  1. Fear not Gavdog08, There are numerous places in Chiang Rai where higher quality hamburgers can be found. My personal fav. is the Chat house guest house. But we also have Rico's, Barrys 9 hole golf course among others.

Just ask for directions when you arrive. Any local expat should be able to point you in the right direction.

P.S. French fries available on request.

  2. National Anti-Corruption Commission member, Vicha Mahakhun, said 2,933 complaints filed with the agency were mostly against police officers accusing them of malfeasance and abuse of power but he added that he could hardly be expected to prosecute the accused who were only doing the job they'd signed on the dotted line for.

    :D

Why is this sentence different from that in post #1 Surely The admin didn't leave this part of the sentnce out deliberately!!!! :)

  3. It`s been held there before and the traffic problems are just as bad. Everyone parks at the new wide section of road just before the Mae Fah Luang bridge. Don`t park your car there or it will get jammed in. they like to park 3 deep. Even with the handbrakes off it`s still a nightmare to get your car out. Lucky for me I live just on the other side of the bridge so we can swim over. Unlucky for me, we can`t really take the car anywhere without going thru Bahn Mai. Even then it`s still extremely busy.

I must admit though, it doesn`t really bother me that much. It`s all part of Chiang Rai life, 3-4 days a year.

When it was held at Pattaya Noi we were able to go by boat from the Rimkok boat stop. 20B per person each way. It would be a good idea for this way of getting there to be reversed this year. Not sure if they will though.

Best advice I can give is, if you don`t mind a 10-15 minute walk, park up near the police station or thereabouts and walk. You`ll save your self a fair bit of time and frustration :D , rather than sitting in your car going nowhere.

    Regards,C35B :D

    P.S. Back next week :D:)

  4. I've had a couple of hip replacements and the implants always trigger the metal detectors.

At some airports security then decide that the old bugger with metal hips is the passenger most likely to be carrying explosives in his shoes and (I presume) throwing knives in his belt. They then insist I remove said dangerous articles of clothing before again doing a cursory wave of the scanner around my hip region which continues to show a reading.

No one has ever examined said belt nor shoes after removal.

I'm then told to put them on again. There is rarely a place provided to sit for this task, and because of my arthritis, I need this, plus a long handled shoe horn.

For the poster who suggested that a wall to lean against used in conjuntion with such a shoe horn is all that's required, I hope for your sake you never become disabled to any extent. I'm also unsure where to carry such an impliment while travelling. Perhaps in a scabbard on my back? (That's not a shoe horn, this is a shoehorn!)

The last time I was asked to remove these items, going through Perth airport, the security people doing the asking (ordering) were young, new Australians (refugees?) of north-east African appearance who would of looked more at home in a small, fast boat in the Gulf of Aden with an AK47 on their back and a dagger clutched in their teeth. Perhaps picking on the old disabled bugger was their form of revenge for the way they had been profiled in the past?

It's one of the main reasons I find travel such a pain these days, and in future, I will probably fit some other type of profile by wearing shorts and flip flops on planes.

And the way you just profiled THEM! Racist. :)

    Grow up, little boy!

C`mon Gunga, his comments were not even relavent to the topic.

  5. Works just fine in IE8 and FireFox 3.5

From where, and with what settings? I do not allow unfettered access to my computer, for any site. IE8 and FF3.5 did not work from Texas with either private settings or allowing the site's javascript only. Safari worked fine on default settings.

I have found this to be the case on a number of Thai (and other Asian countries) business websites. If you open the browser to allow cross-scripting and the like, yes it works, at the risk of being hijacked into a harmful site. This is a risk I am not prepared to take, and simple programming techniques would alleviate the problem. Business websites in particular should pay attention to this.

    Best Regards,

Worked fine for me also on IE8.

  7. I saw a Thai person holding a video camera once. Can you believe it. He was actually pointing it at something. I`m sure he was pointing it at me, because I could see that it was switched on. Now I remember, it was my son. He was 8 years old at the time. How he managed this I do not know.

I may even apply for the job of Brahms personal videographer myself. Anyone who has the audacity to post such a request on a forum such as this must be really entertaining to listen to.Actually, this is something I know to be a fact because I`ve just read thru 2 pages of your previous posts and they were very entertaining

Surely your good lady wife would be up for the task Brahms. Or one of the Thai people/neighbours that are assisting you on these projects would surely be a more obvious choice. Or even one of the university educated Thais you meet daily thru various venues would suffice.

If not, give me a day or two`s notice to get my grey suit and peaked cap cleaned and I`ll pick you up at your door to take you to the set/s of your various projects. I hope one of them is the thrill/zip ride your planning to construct.

    I can`t wait.

    At your service,

  8. Hi guys. I`m still able to enable and disable wifi with the switch on the front of my laptop, and it tells me when I do so. But when i open the view available networks page I can`t refresh it. It just sort of blinks really. The `no networks found in range` text is always there.

I`ve tried system restore but this didn`t sort it.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Chang35baht.

P.S> I`m on windows xp on an Acer 5610.

  9. Which gives you ( if my calcs are correct) total cumulative property lines of around 300 kilometres.

Wow. You must be the biggest land owner in Chiang Rai. Or has this mass of land come from the family of your new bride?

I now understsand you when you say you are immersed in outdoor projects.

    C35B.

  10. Whatever you do do not plug it ia and start using it when it receives a signal from whichever network 3 has a roaming agreement with. It will cost you perhaps 5 quid for every MB you download.

  11. Hi guys. My favourite website for watching tv online has apparently gone down (thanks for the info Monty).

Do any of you know of any other websites where I can watch tv online (legally of course)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Chang35baht

P.S. I had a hunch my last topic would be closed, but I got the info I wanted.

  12. Hi guys. I was able to access a website called shadownet.ro which enabled me to watch a lot of the tv channels/live sports online. Now i am unable to get onto this website.I think because they intrduced a porn channel that I was not interested in anyway. There are millions of these sites if you desire that sort of thing.

I think the Thai govt has now blocked this site.

Is there anyway to access this site by going thru a 2nd party website. Or by any means. It is a topsite for online tv and sports and it will be sorely missed if it is now being blocked.

I am pretty sure I will still be able to access this site when I am outside of LOS.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Chang35baht.

  13. Before, in the thread of Don's place, I mentioned the hamburgers of Rico's and because I didn't try them yet I felt absolutely sure about the fact that they couldn't be better than Barry's at the golf club at the old airport.

I tried now the pork with cheese and the schnitzel hamburgers and I must say that I am not that sure anymore.

And, this is something I have to put on your table: the French fries of Rico beat those of Barry. They really kiss the palate! Not even a Belgian could make better ones!

Sorry Barry, we have always been good friends and I really hope that my honesty will not change things.

If I now would have to make a list I would say:

    Barry still number one,

Rico extremely close as runner up,

    and yes:

The hamburgers of the lovely lady at Uncle John's in third position.

    What do YOU think?

It's Sunday again gentlemen. 6 o'clock is the kick off. See you!

By the way: a nice picture of Rico, yes, he was in football before and he still is!

Chiang Rai United, SUSU! SUSU! SUSU!

    Limbo :)

Sorry Limbo, but the Chat House guest house has always been the best hamburgers in town. Nothing fancy, just excellent meat on a good bun with a little salad.

  14. Can anyone nail these figures down?

How much about on average is one rai going to make profit in one year. After EVERYTHING ie. 50 50 split, fertilizer etc i Assuming rm 600 is the crop.

That's the only figure that counts.

its hard to say how much you will make.It realy depends on where your location is.diffrent parts of thailand produce diffrent yields.

I have 30 rai of 8 year old rubber trees. per rai per cut i get 4 to 6 kilo .I cut about 220 times per year.I have my own work force that gets paid 35% of what thay bring in.each cutter gets 5 rai to cut. At this time i profit per month per rai about 4200B after paying out for my cutters

as for fertilizing We do it 2 times a year once in jun and once in aug. This is durring the raining season. It cost 7000B each time.

    Cheers and good luck

    Thanks for the info.

Are you making mats or are you selling the the latex in raw form?

Also what`s the current price per kilo in your area/

    Thanks,

    Chang35baht.
