Am aware of all that and I am talking about the app, not the online system. I am annoyed they are doing away with the online banking though. Quite often I could do things or view things I couldn't on the app. And I could possibly be doing transfers over 50k so will be an issue to me.

I cant count the number of times I have gone in to any bank here or called their "help" desk and someone didn't know the answer to a question they should have. I wouldn't bet the farm that the person on the phone not knowing is a given no one else does. I remember when I wanted to open a foreign currency account going to three branches before I struck someone that knew what I was talking about or willing to make a call and get more information. I just reinstalled the app per their online instructions. Says will ask you to register Facial recognition when logging in. Nope. The message I got says comes into effect 6th this month. I am guessing a typical cock up where their ambitions have exceeded their abilities. If I get any info from help desk will follow up

Yes, got passed around to three people and the last one says don't know will call back. yeah right. They have an online thing about how to register saying you need to install the SCB easy app, which I already have. I guess I will try and reinstall the app see if it asks for facial recognition when I reset. I assume it is only for online transactions? Quite a big thing for some I imagine. I never keep huge amounts of money here over 500k, but always gave the Mrs (not legally married) instructions that should I croak, immediately transfer money out of my account to hers. She wont be able to do that now

Seen a few posts here re facial recognition and never gave them much notice but I see some vague message in my SCB inbox this morning about it. What's that all about and what is required? is it something I need to do at the branch or on the app? Does it limit me to a daily transaction limit or would it make a problem if my GF want and withdrew money out at a branch? Are Bangkok bank doing the same thing?

Not my first time at the rodeo and I am not one of these bombastic people who go into immigration demanding my rights or with a chip on my shoulder. I am well aware that there will only be one loser in a smarty pants competition with officialdom here. I have seen abusive and obnoxious foreigners (who were clearly in the wrong) in action at IO several times and it is cringeworthy. I never lose my cool and never had a problem before. Quite friendly with a few of them. And who said the wife thing was an opening gambit? Was about number 5 in her long list of issues. I think the first one was she was insisting a bank statement along with the other bank letter and passport. And very dismissive about it too like it was all over and we needed to come back with said statement. Next one was questioning my original OA visa from 10 years ago in my old passport. Couldn't seem to get her head around that either without assistance. Like she had never done a visa application before. It wasn't in anyway like you described but nice poetic license. There was no way I was going to do a 60km round trip to get a TB when I knew it wasn't required. Would you without question? I didn't get aggro about it though or talk down to her. I am certain her workmates didn't like her.....by the way they were raising their eyebrows every time she turned around and asked them yet another question. My main interest is has anything changed....really made me straighten up when she was claiming his birth moth needed to be present. She could be in Timbuk2 for all I know. I suspect she was mistaking the new rules for the 12 month ME family visa people used to get at the border, mum no needs to be present. Never fails to amaze me every year when I do my visa, like it is the first one they have ever done. Sit there for 2 hours while they shuffle the same papers like they are trying to remember if they have all the required documents (and there are a LOT of them) Like using a check list would be a loss of face or something. I use a checklist to get my own paperwork together. All done fragmented in no apparent order...usually results in further contact requesting this and that. last year I had to copy and send every page of my passport, including the blank ones.

Went and did my parental visa this morning. I been doing to for 5 years, have a checklist of what I need and always have my ducks in a row. The woman was asking for several ridiculous things and kept saying everything change this year. First thing she said my sons mum needed to be present. I said firstly she's been long gone and out of contact for 5 years....and I been doing this a long time never once been asked for her to be present. (I have all the correct legitimacy papers from court / Amphur). Then she was insisting my GF needed to go home (30km) and bring her Tabien Baan back. My missus has that ingrained Thai fear of anyone in govt and wont question anything and shushing me when I ask her what's going on, just accepting it all. In the end I got the gist and said to the IO what's the problem? The visa has nothing to do with her by law. IO says "she is representing you". I said who says? She hasn't filled out or signed any papers on my behalf? You can talk directly to me. She went away and had a natter with someone who obviously told her not required....(same for about 5 other manufactured issues). So then she insists GF needs to be in the photo with myself and son. I had to laugh when I saw the print out of the photo like 3 unrecognizable silhouettes lol. Among other issues she was asking for a bank statement as well as my updated passbook (this morning) and bank letter. In the end all got done. One of the older guys there I know quite well kept coming over and pushing her on to get past her petty attitude. Has anything officially changed to the parental visa? has anyone else had similar experience lately. Normally it is just a formality for me.

Planning a trip through Loei up to Chiang Kahn later this month and apart from scenery / sightseeing areas on the way, is there anything worthwhile to see in the actual township of Loei? Was planning a day having a look around but if it is the same as every other Isaan town probably give it a miss. Is it a spread out or compact (walk around) city...Any decent restaurants etc? Appreciate any info

Probably the most realistic reply yet. Remember in Thailand when people are requesting money or anything you are uncomfortable with aka trips etc...it is ok to say no. If she is an Isaan girl it seems love / money / sex are all part of the mixed up deal. Its just seems to be the way it is here. Wealth transferral...yours to hers. Not to say she's a bad person. You just got to draw a line in the sand and she will either accept it or she won't. Certainly don't make a doormat of yourself though. It becomes a never ending money pit with no end. By all means go to the country with her if you want. Doesn't mean you have to shower her family in money. They will only think u stupid if u do anyway. Lay down the ground rules before u go. She should be protecting you from money grubbers, not throwing u to the wolves. Would suggest you stay in a hotel by the way if one near. Give u a breather at night not to mention air con. Google buffalo attacks / deaths in Thailand. Facts are facts. They normally are shy and docile but there are exceptions. Mainly adolescent hormonal males. If the animal is displaying aggression and the guy senses danger...don't go back. Its common sense. Water buffalo in Africa are a very aggressive, smart and formidable animal responsible for many deaths

Sounds strange. I would say an informal visit to see if you were working in the business. Maybe one of your local competition fingered you. Difficult situation when the shove papers (in Thai) in front of u and demand ur signature. You don't want to incur their wrath and start a dick swinging contest u won't win but u also don't want to incriminate urself. I've noticed older Thais, particularly police don't seem to have much regard for westerners. Was talking to an older cop once and wife said later he was referring to me as "money man" in a derogatory way.

Wow, that's a game changer then. Only problem is when I do the yearly parental visa often takes 6 weeks + for approval and will need to be there in person to get my passport stamped. A brief one or two week visit ok but doubt I could do more than that. Other option I guess pay an agent to do it for me when the time ticks around. Hopefully they can do it without the actual passport and only copies to submit

It is possible, and do 90 days online....but its also quite possible they will see at some point you are stamped as out of the country. And you need put that info and latest entry stamp on your 90 days and application. It may not matter? Not sure on what the rules are re having a yearly visa and being out of the country 95% of that year

Probably a dumb question...been on a parent visa for 5 years. Was a real pain to get the first one...many trips to immigration with sponsors from our moo baan, photos with people from our moo baan. Was quite awkward because we dont really know anyone here and asking strangers to sign stuff, pose for photos in my home etc. After the initial one piece of cake every year. Anyway, quite possible I will have to go back home for a year or two. Is there anyway you can keep your visa going or if I let it lapse and come back a couple of years later, still living in the same house...will they make me do all the original run around again? The parental visa is virtually the same as marry visa. Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience

I think Kieth Richards would be the first to admit they were totally influenced by American blues. I wouldn't say ripped off though as their end product is much different. The Stones in particularly did a lot for the old school black blues guys and brought their music to a wider audience, not to mention a much better pay packet. Buffalos can be aggressive and are what must be a 600km + ball of armor muscles and horns. There are many recorded attacks and deaths in Thailand. On foot and unprotected would be very unwise to go near it again.

My wife had a restaurant and things seemed to get worse about 6 months AFTER covid. Covid period was slower but ok. And most of her customers were educated middle income people with stable jobs. I couldn't work it out as their income probably still the same. But after thought I realized many of these people in debt up to their necks and what little disposable income they had every month would be eaten up by inflation....particularly electricity and fuel rising so much not to mention everything else. I guess would be a similar situation all over the world though I doubt household debt would be as extreme here. What is annoying though are the completely polar opposite headlines in the news. One side....obviously various departments responsible for economics here talking themselves up with what they claim is going to happen by the end of the year....and then there are the factual reports which are the complete opposite.

Would be impossible to understand the real economic position of Thailand. Stories of tourism, exports etc going gangbusters then the next story you read the opposite. I live North East Thailand and have seen whole streets that used to be lined with businesses and restaurants now nearly all shut. With domestic borrowings at near 90% GDP, I'm surprised how the country continues on. Other countries ring alarm bells at 60%

Best to measure your head for a helmet. As the other guy said all manfacturers will have a different idea of sizes like XL, XXL etc. But they should have a measurement in cm, 57, 58 etc. Google about measuring your head for a helmet, you won't go wrong
