My first observation would be it was reported his colleagues already knew this guy wasn't well, why they went to check on him. What good will random checks do anyway? Its not like sampling product to customers. Would have to be everyone and then more importantly findings acted on. That seems to be the problem here. A dollar short and a day late. Then a lot of promises and rhetoric, the messenger expecting kudos and praise before anything is actually done. And then all forgotten until the next time the wheels fall off. The worsening PM2 / air pollution problem and yearly promises to get tough a perfect example of that. Surely if they were serious about burning on farms it wouldn't be too hard to police. Usually can be seen in the night sky 20km away.

If you've given the financial institution your overseas address, the tax will be withheld at the rate of 10%. Without your overseas address, tax is withheld at 47% That is what I am referring to, unfortunately the particular bank I am dealing with (U bank) wont have a bar of it. And you can't pay it yourself. Already checked with my account she said definitely taxed at full rates if declared on tax return. But then I called ATO and they didn't seem to have a clue. I thought they were casual here. So unprofessional. In the end ATO said I could pay 10% on my tax return but they couldn't seem to understand the bit about non resident for tax purposes. And that was my third try with 3 different people. I would probably trust my accountant over the numpties I spoke to at the tax office....she was pretty definite about it Interesting though in the information you posted it sounds like all you have to do is give the bank your overseas address and tax file number, which I can probably change online....just edit it. Doesn't look like they have to agree to accept me as a non resident or anything. If they withheld more than the 32% tax looks like I would be within my rights to challenge it.

I am wanting to invest some money in an Australian bank which has particularly good interest rates atm, but they and many other banks discourage investment from Australians living overseas. I am an Australian citizen but been out of the country more than 2 years and my accountant has declared me a non resident for tax purposes (had no choice but to do this a couple years back or face a huge back tax bill) Normally with a bank you can declare yourself a non resident and pay a flat rate of 10% on interest earnings but this bank wont have a bar of it. You need an Australian number, residential address etc. Does anyone know if I invested the money with them and did my own tax return as a non resident if I will still only be liable for the flat rate of 10% or will I be up for full non resident tax rates (34%) on my interest?

You may as well walk around with a spoon in Thailand the BS and excuses that get dished up. My 6yo boy tells more plausible fibs than these people. Whats the bet the driver not only shirks responsibility for the accident with the most outrageous fantastical story, but has his paw out for damages. Just no shame

Ex-girlfriend tries to steal 10 motorcycles

Do you have any proof of purchase? Not 100% sure how it works here but back home govt registration is not proof of ownership. Only a lawyer could answer that, and sometimes they are more dishonest than the perps. The other question is how much does she have on you re proof you were operating or profiting from the business? Is there messages? Money trails? Not even sure how interested in these things immigration are. Just about every other ex farang gf in Thailand threatens to call immigration over this or that. Never seems to come to anything. -
Having a particularly bad time this year with allergies. I guess it's hay fever.... bouts of sneezing and itchy watery eyes. I was using Fexofenadrine (full does 180mg) which seems to keep my sneezing at bay (just) but does little for the itchy eyes. So last two weeks tried Cetrazine (Zyrtec) and itchy eyes a bit better but uncontrollable sneezing. Just taken a Loratadine 10mg (Claratyn) see if that is any better. Will know in the next few days. I haven't taken them together of course....wait a day until trying a new one. Anyone have any suggestions? I guess every type of pill effects or helps in different ways with different people. Is there any such thing as once a day eye drops can be bought over the counter here for itchy eyes? I have some Antihistamine drops but using them about 4 or 5 times a day. Any help appreciated

Mrs is wanting to sell some secondhand stuff on Facebook as a side business. I am not overly FB / IT savvy but she is 5 rungs below me apart from taking a few selfies so trying to help her out. I had a look at creating a FB business page / shop linked to her main page but I can't see any real benefit to it over and above using her normal page. In fact it looks more clunky and difficult and possibly doesn't even have access to FB marketplace from there. She is not interested in online check out or any of those sort of features. If she uses a normal FB page she will probably just create a new dedicated one. Does anyone know much about selling on FB and / or benefits of creating a shop page? Appreciate any advice

Info wanted re school giving out information about kids to others
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in Family and Children
Yeah I don't want to go scorched earth or even get the teacher into trouble. Only young teacher probably didn't even consider the consequences as obvious as they should be. I will be satisfied if she understands our point of view and can guarantee it wont happen again. I think she is lucky it is someone who is reasonable. At a private school like this I am not so sure a Thai parent would be as reasonable as me. -
That's my whole point, agree with you re bland. Put 3 desert spoons in and still barely taste it. This brand is a whole different story, really nice. Very balanced and fragrant and can taste many different dimensions, not one dominating flavor like tumeric etc.

Had a little issue at school a month or so back, kids all running around playing and my son (6yo) and another girl had a little collision. No one hurt, no big deal just an every day school thing. Anyway at the time the teacher told my girlfriend had a little accident at school that day but no one hurt and she also mentioned she told other parents just in case they hear it from their daughter and worry. Like I said, no big deal, no one hurt and no issue. (My son's mum left when he was a 3 month old baby / girlfriend I am with now raised my son since 1yo and is essentially his mum). I only found out yesterday through a strange coincidence that the teacher actually gave the other parents my sons name at the time, which disturbs me on many levels. As it turns out, the girls mum was a friend of my ex, and told her daughter that my GF is not my sons real mum, which she in turn came and blurted out to the whole class. My son has a very Farang name, not common in Thailand and the when the girls mum heard his name she would have put 2+2 together instantly. My girlfriend has essentially raised my son as his mum since he was a year old. My son is aware she is not his real mum but one of those things we never talk about too much. To give even a little more background his real mum is particularly unstable (previously treated for mental issues), has had a train wreck of a life and had had 3 other kids that she abandoned to others. She knows where we live (she used to live in the same house) so its not like I am hiding him from her or anything. But the last thing I wanted was for my ex to know where my son goes to school and I am sure the girls mum probably still in contact with her through Facebook etc. So that's one issue. the other issue is the girl came to school and told my son he is not living with his real mum. Like I said he already knows but has confused him somewhat where previously there was never an issue and maybe felt embarrassed, or maybe the girl teased him about it. And last but not least what if a couple of kids did have some altercation or problem and the other child's parents were psycho's or irrational and came looking for retribution or something? Could actually put a child in danger. Now I have no intention of creating legal issues etc or even getting the teacher into any sort of trouble, but want her to understand in no uncertain terms she is in the future to give none of my sons name or details to anyone under any circumstances. I would be nearly 100% sure back home a teacher would never give another child's name or details to another parent or anyone and in fact I would imagine it would be illegal. Re comments or advice regarding background my sons mum, my relationship etc, not really relevant and would need about 20 paragraphs to explain all that....so please don't jump to any conclusions there. What I am interested in is does anyone know what the legal / moral position of the school / teacher is in regards to naming my son or otherwise giving out information to other people regards my son or family? I am sure anyone with any common sense would realize it was reckless but common sense not always an abundant commodity in the LOS. Just want to know my position before I go and discuss it with the school

Never been very happy with the curry powder I have used in Thailand before. Normally get the Waughs they sell in jars but never seems to be enough flavor in a stew or Indian food. Put three heaped Thai spoons in and still bland. Saw this one the other day in the dry goods section Makro, labelled Thai curry powder... but to me it is every bit the same as Indian style curry powder we get back home but even better. Not overly spicy but has a kick. Best thing is the lovely flavor. Very fragrant and delicious and a kilo bag only about 120 baht from memory. Tasted like it was made this week.

Is "U bank", NAB's online bank little brother. All online and no frills or branches but big interest. Everything was fine with them but they recently "updated" their system and everything back to the way it was re needing SMS confirmations to transfer or even log onto your account. They even cancelled my password as they said not strong enough for the new system. I did better than 30 mins of swearing, I wasn't gentle either. Sent email, went up the ladder etc. Just impossible to use their system if you want to transfer money or log on without an Australian number. Now I am having identity issues with Vodafone and have to jump through all their hoops.

I have done that too but I think that was when you wanted to go from the first large size sim to micro, according to Google you cant cut a Micro to make a Nano....and yes it does look like the metallic section itself of the micro is bigger than the whole Nano card. They say online the macro cards are also thicker and will get stuck in your sim slot if you force them in

Hi all. Came here about 8 years ago. kept my Australia number as I figured I may need it to do banking etc. As it turns out, one of my banks did and still do require SMS verifications etc when logging on. Ridiculous as they are the only Australian bank (U bank) out of 4 I deal with that insist on this. So I lost my sim card....Didn't worry about it for a couple of years but now need the Oz number again. I initially thought no probs as I bought some blank sim cards from the Australian carrier (Vodafone) but on closer inspection they are the older larger style Micro sim, not the current Nano and I don't have a phone they will fit in. Apparently no way to modify them either. Any ideas fellers? I am currently going through an identification process with Vodafone to at least reinstate my account. I am guessing they wont send a replacement sim O/S. Is there any other way to receive an SMS, perhaps online / PC as an Australian number? I remember there were places would give you an Aussie number and there was a way you could receive SMS on a PC. Any help or ideas appreciated.
