Thats a good idea, I see there is custom mapping in keyboard set up. Might give that a try

Its in the living room air con 70% of the time. I did brush it and blow it but looks like under the key cap, the switch itself is enclosed / encapsulated. In any case it is 2 switches adjacent to each other.

There is a pop up and set to language English / Australian. Which as far as I know always been set like that. I never swap languages...not knowingly anyway. Mrs has her own PC
-
I thought maybe I inadvertently did something like that, but I am now using a remote blue tooth keyboard and all keys working on that normally. I assume if I reassigned keys or did something like that would also have the same issue on the remote keyboard? When I use those faulty keys on the notebook pad I don't see anything noticeable happening like language or anything else changing, pop ups etc.
-
Well I have done the trouble shooter on the keyboard, reinstalled drivers. Same issue. I am sure not an expensive repair but don't want to lose my Notebook for a week. Not overly important keys and can use onscreen keyboard if necessary but guessing other keys will possibly fail in time, usually how it goes. Not going to have much choice I guess

Got a fairly recent Huawei Notebook. Under 2 or 3 years old. 2 keys next to each other recently stop working. Apostrophe and exclamation marks. Could I have inadvertently turned them off some how or something else wrong? Maybe dislodged from PC board or something? I removed the button cover had a look to see if any cr@p in there or anything but cant see anything obvious

Really depends on your lifestyle, family size....where you live. When I first came here was living in a fairly remote village...pot holed dirt roads. I bought an Isuzu 4WD for around 700k and as you say about the same price as a small car. Was a no brainer for me. I was amused at the attitude of the locals why you not buy sport car (Small ladies car) and seemed to be a source of shame for my GF. Pick ups are farmers / lo so vehicles lol. I come from Australia and similar vehicle a lot more expensive than a small Toyota / Mazda. If you saw the roads where I was living having a small car like that would be ludicrous. Anyway I bought an Isuzu Vcross 4WD. Poverty pack manual but I like simple cars. Word to the wise though if you have any intention of letting your wife drive and maybe you teaching her buy an auto. using a clutch, accelerator and gear shift just too much going on at once for most Thais. I am sure they would eventually learn but would be a learning curve of several accidents I would imagine... Anyway, I have never been sorry for my purchase and we live in the city now. Even though it is a pick up the ride and seating etc very comfortable. Plenty of power and acceleration and never feels like you are driving a work truck or anything. High seating position, roomy inside and I have no issues parking. Only thing would be a big factor would be the mileage you are doing with the price of Diesel / Gasolene. I dont use the tray much but when you need it, great to have it. You could always put a lockable pop up cover on it or a fiberglass canopy make the area more useful.

Cable support? What's the name of this?

Called slotted duct and available cheaply in Thailand. I'm an Electrician. I dont like zip tying single insulated cables to steel and those lugs look sharp. The duct is super neat and will do the job you need. Available in many sizes -
Very nice guy. Dave from memory. Last time I saw him he was going back to the UK for medical treatment, possibly 3 or 4 years ago. As far as I know he never came back. Number one bar shut at least 5 years ago and as far as I know never opened again

Just as a follow up to my post bought something off Lazada this morning using my Australian credit card. Immediately checked the debit and the amount in Australian dollars was nearly to the cent the same ex rate as XE universal currency converter advertised rate. No exchange fee or loss at all. paid it immediately. Will check my statement end of the month see if they hit me any interest or fees

Bread falling after cooking in the oven
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in Western Food in Thailand
As far as water content goes the best initial guide is the dough shouldn't stick to the sides of your mixer bowl or work bench if you are kneading by hand. Adjust as required. Probably easier to make a wetter dough drier by adding flour as you knead rather than trying to make dry dough more moist. Aka if anything err on the side of a little too much water. Once you get it right just record it all. I usually use 1kg of bread flour to 3 and 1/4 cup of water....but that is my measuring cup and they all seem to be different. I probably use more yeast than I should....32 grams for the 1 kilo flour. The bread never tastes yeasty and always rises well / fast. I suspect the yeast here not fantastic. I do keep mine in a sealed container in the fridge but you don't know how the shop has stored it beforehand or how long it was sitting out in the sun on a pallet. Will keep up to abut 2 years. I also don't add the yeast to the tepid water as many seem to do. I add the flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a bowl. Give it a good whisk together then lastly add the tepid water. As the guy above I would say first rise about an hour or until dough doubles. Punch it down get all the air out of it. Stretch it more or double it over a few times. Then I halve it, shape the loaves and put three diagonal deep cuts on the top of each loaf. I do mine straight in a tray on a silicone mat (see photo). Never had a lot of luck with baking tins. Then I sit the bread / tray on the bottom shelf of the oven for the final proof. Usually 2 hours. When I am ready to cook it, the bread already in the cold oven, turn it on full whack (230) and 30 mins does the trick for me. If you like your bread more on the moist side 28 minutes. -

Made another couple of loaves this morning. Really cut down on the first rise. And also on the 2nd proving after shaping. Definitely a better shape and didn't fall. But in truth probably the same overall mass as my other loaves even after falling. Just this one is higher where the other one more flat and spread out -
Thats the one I ordered

Thanks guys, I just ordered a Logitech C615. About 1000 baht....proper glass lens, 1080P. Has pretty good consistent reviews. Proof of the pudding will be in the eating tho I guess. See how it goes

Have a newer decent laptop, bought a year or so ago. Have a fast fiber internet connection. I need a decent Webcam for online meetings etc. Laptop has one but unfortunately one of those stupid pop up from the keyboard ones. End result it is basically looking up your nose. I got one off Lazada for about 500 baht, supposedly HD 1080, 200 positive reviews (obviously from friends). Anyway the video is really grainy. Have already sent it back. Nearly like the ISO set way too high on a camera. I am indoors at my desk with fluro lighting but I assume Webcams are designed to operate like this. The pop up camera in the PC is not stunning but would be adequate but as I said not useable due to it's position. I don't really want to spend a fortune as this may only be for temporary use. Has anyone recently bought one with semi decent results? I am not after Blueray / DVD quality just decent and useable

Advice/help without judgement *please* - Black magic?
Kenny202 replied to JamesR7's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I dunno if it's real or not. I tend to agree with others it is a form of brain washing by the perpetrator and the rest is done in the mind of the victim. I did have some experience myself, not so much in any consequences of such actions but a girl I lived with her for sometime left a little "care" package in my safe. Consisted of a little brass figurine of some sort of monster riding a penis...a few either tarot or temple cards....a gnarled old tooth and strands of hair weaved into a small donut shape. Must have been there for at least 2 years after she left, I never noticed it. The girl in question was a total lunatic. train wreck of a life but heard her tell peoples fortunes on several occasions and she was eerily correct. She was always talking about other women doing black magic with me after we split. Was a huge thing for her, something she talked about often. Like I said I am not sure it brough me any bad luck etc, not that I have had a great deal of that since coming to live in Thailand. Took photos of the items and promptly threw the lot in the bin. My girl showed some of her relatives the photos and they reeled back in horror.....said I should have taken the stuff to the temple and had it properly destroyed by the monks. -
We get our eggs from small Lotus. Always excellent and super fresh. You know where you break them in water or in a pan and they barely run? and the yolk sits up high on the white? been buying em there for 8 years. Big C, Makro awful. Local sellers iffy as you never know how long they have been out in the heat

Didn't realize you have to <deleted> the yolk? What does that do?

I don't think I made generalizations so much as generalization's of a particular type of person. I think it is ok to make generalizations about certain things if it is generally the case...Isn't it? -
Lack of gratitude in a Thai relationship
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Like I said not expecting bowing and scraping....and a lot of guys comment about Thais not normally giving thanks and Western culture...but when you see someone wai ing (Thai thank you) someone they don't know or owe anything to....a Grab driver for eg> for something he was paid to do....or same to a person they met 2 minutes ago you start to think.....hang on? I think Thais still have even more of a thank you culture than we do in the West. More so. Having said that it is quite possible some are like this with their Thai husbands. Just seems to me to be a facade they put up. Never give an inch. Maybe they know they are lucky or appreciate things just don't show it...really don't know -
Lack of gratitude in a Thai relationship
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You know maybe that's what some people missed in my OP, or maybe I wasn't clear. Some are out and out ungrateful or entitled. Some may be grateful and show it in other ways but will seldom hear anyone voice it. And I am not talking about a wai every time you walk in the room or bowing and scraping....just normal appreciation. There must be a reason in Thai culture why it doesn't happen? To me it seems like they are taught or learn not to show a soft side or expose yourself as it will be taken as a weakness...and lets face it often acts of kindness or charity are often eyed with suspicion in Asia...Either you are an idiot to be taken advantage of or expecting something in return. -
Lack of gratitude in a Thai relationship
Kenny202 replied to Kenny202's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Possibly contrary to what some may think of my post... I do like Thai people, very much. I have 2 Thai sons. And this post not necessarily based on the the relationship I have now, nor am I trying to move her on. Not to say she doesn't have some of these traits. I know I have more than a few traits she finds hard to understand. I find it a very welcoming and tolerant place to be. And of course I wouldn't live here if I didn't like it. Reminds me somewhat of home in the 70's early 80's. Not too many restrictions and most things possible. Like I said observations. I think most come on here to blow off a bit of steam....good or bad. One thing I do find admirable about Thais is their fellowship, support and comradery. A trait we Westerners don't seem to possess, not in this digital age anyway -

Try going head to head with them about kids at school and the reasons why she shouldn't be plying them with the poisonous cheap rubbish (Candy, 5 baht hot dogs etc) they sell at the front of said schools lol. Or why kids need to complete their homework etc. But Thailand different lol.
