  1. I can see what you really meant.... and you have made a huge assumption based on very little information. You are saying the debt hasn't been sold to a legitimate company, somebody in the original loan company has harvested the information and will use it for evil deeds. And if not paid their will be extortion and violence. Really? Lower your meds dosage bro
  2. Anyway, she went and paid it off today against my advice, but hey there is a small chance they could have actually taken her to court and claimed the full amount plus interest and legal fees. I doubt it buy hey it was her decision. They did actually drop the original debt from 30k to 20k so to that end ok. She checked with Eon and they confirmed they had on sold the debt to JMT and they weren't acting as a collection agent. JMT actually said the same thing. I have a friend in Bangkok works in finance for heavy machinery and he told me JMT are also a legal company and there was a chance they may take her to court as they have their own legal department. He was also unaware of any 2 year Statute of limitations. Anyway, no skin off my nose. Thanks all for the advice
  3. Long story but basically overspent, got pregnant and had to leave work. There is no other way to describe other than totally irresponsible. But it is a pretty common theme here. No thought for the future particularly when money is concerned. Doesn't even enter their heads how they will pay it back, it's just a matter of who is stupid enough to loan them. Reminds me 40 odd years ago back home when credit cards first came out and it was open slather. Same thing happened. Some people need to be protected from themselves not that it lessens the responsibility of the debtor. I used to see people in the village loaning money from the local Chinese money lender at ridiculous rates. Put their land up as collateral. They knew the deal. A couple of months later and they hadn't paid a cent and all sitting around laughing how stupid the lender was for not chasing up the debts. The lender simply sits it out for 6 months or so then comes and cleans them all out, by this time the interest has at least doubled the principal. They used to try and get a few farmers in a row, take all the land in one hit. I never pitied these people as they thought they were cheating the loan shark lol. Dum Ar$eS
  4. I think you will find that may happen with private lenders, not Banks and proper lending institutions
  5. She did have a job at the time, was 6 or 7 years ago and how they get that many credit cards I have no idea but in my experience not an uncommon thing for Thai women here. I often laugh about guys making judgements about getting an educated wife or one with a government job etc. I have lived with doctors, nurses, teachers.....ex bargirls, farm girls. the only real difference (apart from great / boring sex and possible psychotic issues) with these sort of socio economic groups is the professionals often have larger debts / higher expectations of money as they have more loan capability.
  6. No I've lived with her 5 years and there has never been one instance of dishonesty, gambling issues or even greediness re money as hard as that may be to believe. There was extenuating circumstances for the loans which I wont go into here, but involved her brother taking advantage of her....the only family she has. She has never tried to borrow more money whilst I have been with her and I am sure she has learnt her lesson. She has actually fully paid 3 of the credit cards off herself with her own earnings. But of course I am always on guard with anyone here hence my reluctance to just throw money at Isaan people's problems to just make them all go away. They live such careless irresponsible lives yet never take responsibility for their actions or lack of them. And once you get on that bus you never get off. If I do loan her the money to pay the debt she will pay me back as she has done before. I take care of her and her son in every way financially but I have a policy here I will not pay any ones loans or debts. I have invested enough in charity in Thailand in the past. Not my promprem.
  7. They say they have sent her letters but to her old workplace which she never received nor do they have the address where she lives with me the last 5 years or would be able to find out. There are no official records of her living at my address / we aren't married. Her mum and dad are dead so no family home address. They have contacted her by phone over the years continually and she has spoken to them but she has never received any formal things nor replied to such. They have never been as insistent or as threatening as they are now.
  8. She has since confirmed from the collection company they did buy the debt and as you say they would have bought a 30000 debt for around 5000 baht, if it works similar to back home. Are you sure about the 2 year thing? If so its been at least 6 years. She does actually want to do the right thing and pay them and I would agree if the debt was still with the original lender but I just don't see any benefit in paying these people apart from maybe a clearing of her conscience. She seems to think if she pays these people her credit history will be clear in 3 years even though Eon wrote off the loan apparently a few years ago. She says if the loan is paid, albeit late you have a bad credit mark for 3 years. If you completely default and don't pay it's 10 years. Doesn't sound right to me
  9. My GF has a credit card debt from about 6 years ago with a company called Eon. They gave up chasing her about a year ago. Before were at her to make payment plans etc but she was fully committed paying off 3 other cards. Anyway looked like they gave up. The debt is about 30000 baht. Yesterday she got a call from another company called JMT who my wife seems to think has "bought" the loan off Eon. Reason is she called Eon and they basically said they have no record of her anymore so sounds like she might be right. She has recently paid off two other credit cards and maybe that has showed up somewhere and sent them a red flag, hence they have become more vigilant. She discussed with them the possibility of a monthly payment plan and they said no, too late for that. If she doesn't pay by the end of the month they will start court proceedings. Firstly if Eon has sold or transferred the debt to another company, can they legally pursue it through the courts as the debt was not with them? Would they really take her to court over 30000 baht? I imagine all the court would do is make the parties work out a payment plan anyway. She has no real assets or job by the way. They have made an offer of a one off payment of 22,000 to clear it all by the end of the month which sounds like a great offer, but again I am not even sure of these peoples right to collect this money. For eg if Eon have written the debt off why should we pay this crowd and what would be gained? Just for the record, before anyone starts judging...I had a fair bit to do with collecting money back home and I despise defaulters. Yeah she should have paid them and all that but I don't want to pay someone who isn't legally entitled to the money if at all possible. And how to verify it all so she is in fact clearing the debt. These people may have bought the loan at a very low price and perhaps have no legal right to collect the money as they are not acting as an agent for the principle
  10. She had raised bumps everywhere lol. Do I need to paint u a picture? 5555
  11. I have a parental extension already, but I was under the impression you had to have 100% custody to get it. So if for example you had sheared custody or maybe only weekends etc you were not eligible for a parental visa
  12. I take care of my child full time basically since born, 6 years now. I haven't (but should) go to the courts and seek full custody I guess. She might see him for an hour or so every year or two. Never sends gifts or supports in anyway. Not married to my sons mother but have a court paternity ruling, registered at the Amphur etc. What happens should my ex decided she wanted to take care of my son part time / full time.....maybe visit me on weekends etc? Under those circumstances can I still get a parental visa? I am sure once they told me only eligible for parental visa if I have 100% care...... which I thought was odd. I mean it may be the only option I have to get a visa and live here here and may have to leave my child here and go back home. Many would also no longer continue to support the child. They seem to make odd rules sometimes that are in no way in Thailand or Thai peoples benefit. What rights do I have? I doubt she will want him anytime soon but if somehow it was in her interest she may change her mind.....
  13. Not sure if they have the meds you describe but man I had a bad experience with them when I was 16yo. I told the girl who gave them to me (whom I thought had 13 clitoris at the time, how inexperienced I was lol) to get me some of the medication she got as I was too embarrassed to get it myself. Which she did with no instructions. I got a tiny lump come up and thought will nip this in the bud and proceeded to paint little Kenny all over with the brown paint she gave me. Turned out it was sulphuric acid which you are meant to just dab a pin <deleted> of the mixture on the wart. Long story short I burnt a hole nearly 1cm deep and 2cm round on my old boy. Was one of the most painful things I ever went through, nearly 3 months to heal. As far as them coming back they can, and many years later too. I got another one about 15 years later, a week before the date of my life. I was that desperate I cut it off with a toenail cutter! Blood everywhere but never came back again. Hopefully the meds a lot better these days
  14. Got a Samsung Aircon 18000 about 4 years old. Basic air con, not inverter. Regularly cleaned and serviced every 4 or 5 months. Recently done about 2 weeks ago. The remote has stopped working. The screen and everything is ok. New batteries. Everything appears to be functioning. I tested that there is an IR signal coming out of the LED (in my camera) and all ok. I cleaned the plastic screen covering the remote sensor on the unit. Even tried it without the screen. Still nothing. Interestingly the manual on / off button on the air con doesn't seem to be working either. The air con is still functioning fine but just unable to adjust anything or even turn it on or off. Doing so at the circuit breaker for now. Anything else I can try? Can pay someone to come and look at it of course but you know what a nightmare these things can turn into here.....from the guy not turning up after waiting all day, someone coming with no idea etc etc. Usually try and exhaust everything DIY first
  15. I wouldn't have thought a profession like helping in a restaurant, cooking etc would be allowed? I believe even if you can get a permit you are very limited in what you can do. Does anyone know what tasks you could actually perform helping your wife?
  16. This is interesting bet there would be a lot of guys interested in this. Explains why sometime I have seen a farang openly selling at a stall etc. I assume it has to be a marriage visa? I am on a parent of a Thai child visa. And getting the work permit doesn't mean you have to change your visa type or class same as say a teacher working here? Was talking to a mate before and he had one of these working in Phuket with his wife and said you are very limited as to what you can do on a marriage work permit. Maybe only go and get supplies etc? I wonder if you can cook in the restaurant....work front of house etc? What sort of tasks can you do?
  17. Verasu does look very good, sort of thing / brands I am talking about but they don't list a lot of stuff online, probably instore maybe better. At the moment looking for more utensil sort of stuff. Stuff I am talking about mostly professional / semi professional and often these aren't branded. There are a few BIG professional cookware online shops here and often they have what I need but they are (obviously) very orientated to Thai / Asian style cooking.
  18. No their stuff is not high end at all, maybe say high end supermarket quality compared to back home. I must say Central has come along 500% to what it was 8 years ago when I came here. Hard to specify brands really..... more semi professional / professional stuff. Not dissing any of the stores mentioned by the way. There just obviously isn't a big market for some of the stuff I am looking for. For eg looking for a potato masher at the moment. A particular style of one. Just been to Home pro, Central, Baan and Beyond, Big C. None of these shops had one of any description. And again unsurprisingly probably not much use for one here. But I am sure there would be some shops with better stuff in Bangkok, online perhaps where there is a bigger market aka all of Thailand. Ton of them on Lazada but all domestic junky looking things. Lazada really giving me the shet's lately, getting every other order cancelled (no stock) or just remains in "to pack" status, no communication or reply from the seller. I am no brand snob either by the way. I have a set of Zwilling knives I paid $1200 for back home and my chefs knife of preference is a 60 baht carbon steel thing I bought from DIY lol. It is so good I bought 5 of them and 3 years later still using the original one in our restaurant everyday
  19. Does anyone know any specialist / decent kitchenware type online suppliers in Thailand. Already aware of Lazada, Shoppee, Homepro, Baan Beyond, Central, Robinson etc. Looking for better quality specialized kitchenware, utensils etc....more of a western orientated store. needs to be online as I am up country
  20. As others said yes, and I do mind sharing. What you seem to have to do with Bkk bank is keep going to branches until you find one that is helpful. I was told by 2 branches they didnt have a foreign currency account. Then one who knew and did it immediately. Even K bank at one stage told me foreigners need to open an account with 500k plus, or the particular branch did.
  21. Thats what Bkk bank staff do as an excuse not to help you or not do something they dont understand. God forbid cant go ask someone or make a call. I have had online banking with them 8 years but also ran into the same problems with them until I found a branch with a decent contact. Having said that theyre online banking / apps unreliable, sometimes off the air for a day or more hence I recently moved all my bigger money to SCB. They are much more progressive and helpful. I always feel like the other bank somehow thinks they are doing you a favour holding onto your money, or in their minds THEIR money.
  22. It is about that, but really I was talking about local, basic staples. Could be a whole bunch of factors affecting imported goods one of them being the apparent huge hike in shipping costs and shortage of shipping space / containers
  23. Have to agree with you there. I have had the same rent for 5 years and it was cheap when I first got it. Rent here is way under parity with land values / repayments. Back home rent would be aprox equal to what bank loan repayments would be or up to 20% more. Probably one of the cheapest costs of living here. And it is still cheap to live here, but prices are going up and wages are not. That's never a good scenario for a country, particularly one needing to compete in the export / manufacturing sector. Probably will be good for expats though however things never usually pan out logically here....TIT
  24. I may be wrong but I didn't thin Pon Yang Kham is a company or place, it's a Thai term for French Thai beef and I think there are many suppliers in Nakhon Sawan. My Mrs uses beef in her restaurants and the few times she checked it was far more expensive than the Aussie beef we are getting in Makro, which isn't A grade admittedly but pretty damn good for the price particularly for beef mince. Anyway I will give her this number to try as I am sure that Harvey Beef in Makro isn't going to be available forever, not at current prices anyway. From memory there was an issue with their delivery as well, we would have had to pick it up from the bus station. Was a while ago so worth checking again. I have bought Aussie rib fillet for 300 to 500 baht and sometimes eye fillet even cheaper. The cheaper cuts you can mince still under 300 baht for a whole piece.
