  1. I have recently moved to Nakhon Phanom, having worked and lived in Phuket for the last 11 years.

I used to dread going to Immigration there as you were never quite sure what paper work was needed "this time" and it took most of the morning, with flying visits out to get even more photo copies etc. lately with my extension of stay application you would have to collect the passport the next day.

So we arrive in Nakhon Phanom and do the 90 day report, nothing but smiles and advice on the paperwork we do "not" need to provide. Last week went to renew the extension of stay based on retirement, but when we got to the office the road outside had been closed off for some sort of  event. I have a chronic lung disease and the 500m walk was very difficult. We got into the office presented the paperwork, i had forgotten to sign one page, the female office took the paperwork into the back office and when she came back my wife mentioned the road closure, and my problem.  The passport and approved extension came from the back office within a couple of minutes, and the officer then insisted on taking my arm helping me outside into a police pickup and drove us back to our pickup via a diversion, stating that they are there to help where they can. We were in the office a very short time and i drove onto the next destination with a tear in my Eye, i just love it up here.

  2. Thanks for all suggestions - I am not looking for another SUV - have one already -

Saw for the first time yesterday and HRV and liked it - figured there must be other similar sporty offerings...

ps - I am not really a car person, but I sure do enjoy a nice comfy car...

Being in the countryside, we are limited to the major dealers... Nissan, Mazda, Isuzu, Toyota & Honda...

  3. This reminds me of an old joke.

Three guys standing over the grave of an old Poker friend. The four of them had just finished playing Poker when he dropped dead from

a heart attack. At the funeral The remaining three guys; give the winning from the night before.

First guy puts an envelope in the coffin containing $ 35,000. Second guy puts an envelope containing $22,000. The third guy, puts an envelope

containing $26,000; but it is a small thin envelope. The other two guys say to him. "Why is your envelope so small ? You should pay your debt,

even if he has died ? " The third man looked shocked. " Of course I paid him in full. " " I didn't have even cash, so I wrote him a cheque ".

Spend it now ! You cannot take it with you !

The way i heard it was this: the two guys put their money in and the third guy puts a cheque in for $83,000 and takes the cash !!

  4. Sorry but having traces of drugs in the blood doesn't equate to them being high on drugs, or even impaired by them. I mean somebody can very easily spike somebody's drink with a drug, and they'd feel fine a couple of days later but still fail the test.

Admittedly it doesn't inspire confidence that they're testing positive for illegal drugs, but I think the more pressing issue is addressing their driving skills and attitudes. Those who drive bigger vehicles here seem to see that as carte blanche to bully smaller vehicles out of their as and when is convenient for them to do so.

But if anything this story is a positive as those drivers will likely have something to think about now & the passengers will be (i'd hope) driven by potentially a more sensible driver for the remainder of the journey

Be careful you might fall off the fence.

  5. 7 years ago i started working, in Thailand, with a friend of mine, he decided to rent a car and i bought one. Today he has no equity in any motor whereas I have, so for me renting is a bad option in the long term, and especially as the motors in Thailand hold their value compared to the UK for example.

I notice about rats eating the wiring looms, I never saw this anywhere, but i suppose it could happen, just as a car could be caught in a flood.

Best to buy from an expat, I would not trust a local or car dealer.

I have just retired and will be moving to the North shortly so will be selling my car as I have a car in the North also.

When i bought mine it was a choice between a fortuna and a Mu 7, the Mu7 won hands down, in my opinion, so that is what i have for sale. If you are interested let me know and I will forward the details.

The trust worthy expat,5555.Just do your homework whoever you buy from.

So you have the monopoly on being a trusted expat then ? Interesting

  6. I would like the help of Dario as i wonder if you still have your POC available. I need to get one as i am flying to the UK December, I don't need full time just as an assurance. Is it a problem to take on aircraft?

    Hi Michael,

I still have the device. It is definitely not a problem to take it on the aircraft. You can take it as hand luggage in the cabin or put it in a suitcase and check it in.

To carry an oxygen concentrator of any kind on an aircraft it must be on an approved list. It is also necescary to have a prescription from the doctor stating the amount of oxygen required and that the user is capable of using and responding to any alarms of the unit. (US airlines have slightly less restrictive requirements.

Many airlines will not allow their use though some of them will provide oxygen at a price (it is not cheap if you need a lot).

It is important that your read and comply with the requirements which are given on many airlines website or you can end up standing at the airport with a lost ticket.

If you let me know which airline I can tell you what I know of their requirements.
