  2. Went to Nakhon Phanom to do my 90 report. I had to park a long way from the office as the road was closed near the office for some festival. I have a lung disease so it took me a long time to get to the office and recover, the immigration Lady noticed my situation and asked my wife what happened. When we were done with the report the Lady came round the counter took my arm and led me to a Police pickup, helped me in and drove us back to my pickup saying "we have to help our friends" what a lovely experience having had 10 years reporting to Phuket.

Perfectly valid comeback. But while they are are facing the breakup of their own 'United' Kingdom and an uncertain future to say the least, every moment of their time should be focused on what is happening at home. Saudi will still be lopping of heads in five years, despite what we say. Where will the UK be in five more years?

The breakup of the UK ?? where did you get that idea from.

  4. I would suggest that you write a letter to accompany your application, more or less the same as your post but leaving out non relevant details. Immigration have to build a case that she will be returning to Thailand, this is their main concern, so details of her work, family commitments, residential and car investments etc. an of course your intentions to return to Thailand are of paramount importance. My girlfriend was successful with her first visa, admittedly some years ago but we made sure to write the letter, than inform the British Embassy when she returned. This advice was given to me by a worker at the B E years ago. Best of luck.

On the face of it, this looks EXTREMELY worrying for British retirees here. The irresponsible action of the British embassy in not confirming a retiree's income flow could be the death knell for many Brits here. Also, as far as I understand it, the British Government will not send pensions into a Thai bank account (only into a British one), and not every British bank will automatically forward a pension to a bank account in Thailand every month. Maybe I am wrong.

Perhaps it is not as bad as I fear. What do other members think?

I have my pension paid into my Thai bank account, no problem with that, but hope they are only referring to those that do not have the 800k in a bank account over here for retirement. My state pension is nowhere near 65k a month!!

Yes its a 5 year full licence, If I use this I will need a International driving permit. IDP, anyone know the process?

You will not need an International driving licence if you are hiring a car with your Thai licence. I would suggest however that a quick call or email to the rental company so they can confirm the will accept your Thai licence, problem solved.

We've been together for 28 years, I am not worried about her.

I understand that I could have an ATM card made, but it has daily withdraw limits, if large sums are needed someone still needs to go to the bank personally.

Can't put the money in a joint account at the moment, since the money is still seasoning until next extension.

I just want to make sure that she can get this money out for me in case of an emergency where I physically can't do it myself.

I don't know what bank you are with but my account has an atm card and my wife can withdraw 500K per day, when i die she can empty the account without going through the probate process. Same applies if she needed to withdraw funds if i was incapable.
