Perhaps - by Law any hosptial (private or public) are obliged to render medical care in the first 72 hours. Only them once stabilised can a private facility look at transferring a patient to a government facility if cost becomes a concern. In this case its not clear if the lad is in a private or government hospital - but, looking at the photo (on first page of this thread) it looks as though he is on a ward in a government hospital.

Below - you did use an IF - but your implication remains clear.... Of course, if he was any other nationality than British you may not have allowed our anti-British bigtory to surface and allude to blaming the injured party... You still have no idea how you stupidly allow your bias you cloud your judgement an comments. What crime ??? Jeez you post some complete rubbish... I kind of agree with this in principle - however, in the real world this does not work. This is why in Europe there used to an insurance sharing scheme (which was once E111), was EIHC before Brexit and is now GHIC post brexit... there are plenty of shared insurance schemes. There has been an insurance issue in Thailand for decades... So, blaming the people is not a solution... its just playing a dumb blame game - there are solutions and that is mandatory insurance for all visitors and that can be provided on arrival IF it can be done so conveniently. I don't expected you to agree... Its clear the underlying reason for your objection is because are 'doubling down' on your objection to anything I post because you are butt-hurt fool and lack the capacity to think critically.

It was announced a few years ago that people cannot ride in the flat bed of a pickup. There were nationwide protests... with pickup owners complaining that they (the poor people) are being targeted... Authorities relented allowed people to be transported in the flat-bed a pickup for the Songkran period only - of course, all this did was enable people to continue on as they have been without change. IMO - society is also to blame here, when authorities try to do something and improve safety, there is a black-lash.

Revved up: Thai man’s motorcycle stolen in Pattaya
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Too much effort, not enough in it for them. That said - In the UK, my father had his car stolen from the garage - Police came, took prints and that was that - Said they wouldn't investigate further as it was not a violent crime. -
I wonder how quickly after the accident the Thai's started demanding money. Of course - if the Thai genuinely cannot work, compensation should be offered - however look at the damaged, its seems to be a very low impact crash - I wonder how seriously the other party was hurt. There is also another facet to this: Helmet wearing... Accident happen, should another party be held responsible if someones injuries are worse because they didn't wear a helmet ? ------ I recall being in an accident years ago - I went to see if the other driver was ok and as soon as I did, he started faking injury looking for compensation... Even the Police were unconvinced and ended up getting angry at the other driver (who also got caught in repeated lies as to how the crash happened).

That depends where you are selling it... - If to a 'tent' - then they will have all the documentation and you just need to sign over the BlueBook. - If privately - then you will need to either: a) i) Take payment and go with the buyer to the DLT and make the transfer (they'll have necessary papers there). ii) Sign over the blue Book (at the DLT) iii) They will want a copy of your passport (as ID) or b) i) Sign Proof of Sale document ii) Sign Power of Attorney (to transfer vehicle into a new name) iii) Sign over the Blue Book iv) Signed copy of Passport as ID (Its often reported that you will need a letter of residence to sell a vehicle, but this is not so).

Unless there is a specific clause excluding riding motorcycles, IF he was licensed he was riding legally. I think its usually just travel insurance that has a clause excluding motorcycle use - but he lived and worked here, so travel insurance wouldn't be the cover he would or should be carrying anyway (if he was carrying any insurance at all). My Health Insurance has no stipulation excluding motorcycles - I am fully covered to ride motorcycles (and am licensed of course).

Quick Arrest! Man Caught After Snatching 4 Baht of Gold
richard_smith237 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
No... Its always been the measurement of weight for Gold and Silver in Thailand. 1 baht of gold = 15.244 grams or 0.49 troy ounces. -
I think Compulsory insurance will cover the medical costs up to a certain amount. It won't cover damages for loss of work. Charge the Russian with what ? it looks like an accident (Russian looking the wrong way / driving on a different side of the road than they are used to) - Do Thai's get charged with every road accident that occurs ? IMO - the Russian should at least pay compensation for loss of work - but the medical costs should be covered by the insurance. Perhaps they didn't have any.......... In which case, as per ChrisY1's comment - the Russian should be charged and pay all expenses.

Where was it reported that he was unlicensed and riding without a helmet ??? I agree - it was stupid to ride without adequate insurance... but I recall in my earlier days here while in my 20's, I apparently had insurance cover through my company, but it wasn't something I gave any thought to at the time - I don't imagine many young people give much through to this. I don't imagine youngsters do until its too late. Of course, we are acutely aware of these issues because we live her - but how many tourists travel here without awareness that they have no medical cover - IMO, the lack of advice 'pushed' in the direction of tourists and travellers here is very poor. For this reason alone I like the idea of compulsory insurance (written into the cost of a ticket perhaps) - so that there is no debate regarding treatment at government hospitals - its just carried out.. and if people want to ensure better treatment they can still use their own private insurance etc.

Agreed... Although I personally would never want to rely on a scheme such as this to ensure the best medical care in an emergency - everyone knows the improtance of full health / medical Insurance to protect from such issues. I also wonder who was responsible for the motorcycle accident - if a 3rd party was at fault, could they be held accountable for the costs ?... If I'm not mistaken the compulsory insurance (Por-Ror-Bor) only covers medical costs up to a certain amount. What is somewhat grinding with this story is that the hospitals know what needs to be done to give this lad a better shot at surviving, but are putting that on hold while waiting for a bill to be paid - IMO that is outrageously mercenary, they can just move the guy, save his life and chase up the costs afterward. If people are going to argue that point - be reminded: - In 2023 the Revenue from Medical Tourism to Thailand was 29 Billion Baht. - Burden of unpaid medical bills estimated at 300 to 400 Million Baht - about 1% of the total revenue. The Thai Medical industry is not hurting by any means because of people such as this guy who need urgent medical care.

Who's upset - I'm just utterly perplexed at the complete absense of foresight. And, Yes... Its 'only a small piece of street' so why even bother with a cycle lane there ?... no cyclists can get there without first mixing with what was already an extremely congested area. Cutting out 'one lane' to created a cycle lane that will only be used by motorcycles already created additional grid lock that extended KM's from the 'choke point'... so, its not really 'only a small piece of street'... Jomtien and other area's also need serious traffic measures - but much of that is caused by volume of traffic, though tourbusses can be a major cause of congestion.

Because you are bias and not looking at all the sources - More Russians and More Chinese get arrested in Thailand each year than the British. In Phuket, more French get arrested than the British - that is reported on less in these pages (this forum) - It's enough for you because you want to confirmation of your bias. You may now mention that this is about behavior, not arrests... then you are entering pure guess work and even more likely to be wrong. Not a majority - but thats not the point... The point I'm arguing against is your flawed bias exampled by your posting history - you had a quiet spell for a good few months before reverting back to type. I can explain it to you, but can't understand it for you. I'm not the one pulling my own statistic out of thin air... thats just one way I avoid bias in topics such as this, but also admit in other threads, particularly concerning policing and the roads I carry plenty of negative bias. You have decided its a Majority - you may be mistaken because do not have the full data-set, you do not have any data. The only data presented in this thread (by MalcomB) is nearly 10 years old. Your generalisation is based solely on the bias you have developed based on news reports 'only' on this forum - using this forum as a measurement metric s fundamentally flawed. I can see 'why' you would develop an opinion you have, however you cannot see why your generalised opinion is a result of the prejudice you have developed.

I suspect they'll be removed tonight - residents in the area have complained massively. I know a family who took 3+ hours to get home from school when it usually takes 40 mins - upset kids, couldn't get dinner. I know one family who just parked up (in a building somewhere nearby) and walked home. To many powerful people in the area - I can't see that cycle lane lasting long before residents take matters into their own hands.

What are you doing here ?... taking Anti-British prejudice and turning it into Anti-Russian prejudice ? There is an abundance of negative news from nationals of plenty of different countries - no one nationality stands out significantly enough to tarnish the whole - Its just an extreme minority of complete ayholes from many different countries, and tarnishing any nation with negative generalisations enters the realm of bigotry.
-
There it is... but its still not true - Most of the people behaving poorly in Thailand are actually Thai, but thats is obvious. Now, of the foreginers, most of the people who make the news pages of Aseannow for poor behaviour appear to be British, but there is no actual statistic to back that up - nevertheless, I wouldn't disagree with such a statement - but it could be argued that a lot of Chinese and local Migrants reach the media for negative reasons - but you won't notice that on Aseannow - because its more 'Western / English centric', but, if you were to read Thai social media and sources you would identify this. That leads me onto your final statement which is perhaps the most accurate you've made... of the Westerners who reach the news of media outlets such as Aseannow, the majority are British - I wouldn't argue with that. But, the extent of Anti-British rhetoric that you have displayed in the past and reignited today, and that or MalcolmB who has displayed an anti-British rhetoric since he joined the forum 6 months or so ago is highlighted by the silence from both of you when it is another nationality which reaches the headlines, yet you both of you are incredibly fast to condemn the British in general as soon as you read it is a Brit who is the source of a problem - and for such attitudes it is clear both MalcomB and yourself are indeed, prejudice against British to the point of being bigots, even if you are so blind you cannot see it yourself.
-
Arguing with me or MalcomB - the numbers are his quote. So... how many Brits hit the news for behaving badly ?? one per day ????..... 10 per day ?... Explained a few times in this thread already - Lots of British / English centric news / contagion effect. Oh, but you most definitely are, otherwise you'd be posting with a more measured balanced - you would have posted in the past with a more measured balance instead of earning yourself the reputation as a Brit-basher. You are stating your opinion and presenting it as a fact with a sweeping generalisation, and that makes your opinion prejudice to the point of being bigoted.
-
In contrast I feel sorry for people like you - education systems have clearly let you down and you lack the nouse to overcome your flawed knee-jerk impressions and double down with the dumb bigotry you have presented in this thread. Using the stats presented by MalcomB earlier, Out of 432,000 visitors... 431,806 were not arrested... are you still going to stick to your sweeping bigoted generalisations ? Anyone with any intelligence would recognise that 'trouble makers' are minute minority - and I'll agree with you that the British Trouble makers are abhorrent characters, but I will not see flawed generalisations thrown and any nationality, race or gender without solid facts - and you do not have solid facts.
-
You are a bigot - you have posted sweeping generalisation about a nation - sorry you dont like that, but if the cap fits... And... If you think 'you' are at a lower level than I, I can't help with that, you'll have to reflect on why you think that is. Erm... ok bigot - if you say so. No, you've delivered bigotry and made up your own statistic and now made up your own statement and have pedalled it as fact.. Thai's are now getting more and more negative towards foreigners ???? - if you've experienced that, then its on you. I've not experienced that at all... ... perhaps you are making up more rubbish to try and make your point, just like making up your own statistics.
-
Professionally ?? - I don't get paid for my contribution here - I'll make no apology for responding in a manner you struggle to content with Gottfrid... As you should be, I and I am quick to condemn anyone who behaves so poorly in public that they attract the attention of authorities or make the news, regardless of nationality. I am equally as quick to condemn bigotry - yours included. That is incorrect and as fabricated as the stat made up earlier. And... no, I'm not 'rescuing the British Poplation' at all - thats not needed... But I am calling out the bigotry in comments made by posters such as yourself... Pathetic is your inability to recognise this... clownery is the manner in which you shoe-horned yourself into this debate and reignited your own fire of bigotry... .... too stupid to even recognise when you are posting bigoted generalisations.
