  1. Wrong side ??? how ?... the motorscooter (motorcycle) is on the left hand side of the road, it hit impacted front drivers side (right side) of the car which had pulled out. Unless we are each looking at a different photo and one of them is reversed (which is why I posted the pic above). Can you explain how the 'motorscooter appears to have been illegally salmon riding on the wrong side'... pls... I'm more intrigued at this interpretation than anything else (and am now wondering if I have missed something glaringly obvious). Edit: Do you mean the motorcyclist was passing slower cars which had stopped to allow the black car (with Russian Driving) to turn right onto the main road, and the scooter flew down the outside of the cars not predicting that something might be pulling out ??? - Not unheard of, of course... and if so the Motorcyclist is complicity - but there is no mention that the motorcyclist was riding recklessly (though quite possible).
  2. Very sensible on the part of the Russian driver. Don't submit to extortion. Let the insurance companies/courts deal with it. Especially when, as I presume from the positions of the vehicles in the photo, the Thai motorcycle was cruising up the wrong side of the road. Which side of the road do you drive on in Thailand ???
  3. Wow - So much predictable hate against someone with mobility issues... (and from the obvious posters). Such vehicles are a life saver for those who can't otherwise get about... they're safer for these guys who can't ride a bike and perhaps can't drive a car - they're an idea solution. But these pages are so full of hate amongst older folk who still want independence. The real issues - the road should not have a crate in the middle of it. On Thailands roads there are so many adapted contraptions that are not registered or licensed - so many un-insured untaxed motorcycles driven by unlicensed riders... the guys riding mobility scooters are a drop in the ocean - but for some reason they still attract of hate from grade A1 halfwits who breath hate. It would be easy for the authorities to allow these vehicles as 'disability vehicles' - I think they are already legal to use the roads where a pavement is non-existent or unenviable - but they have to be below a certain power (Wattage), I think some of these vehicles are over that threshold.
  4. Yeah, just sleep in the airport. Save all kinds of time and money. You'll sleep much better on the next leg. I didn't spell it out clearly enough... Layover at a convenient hotel near the Airport. Most airports also have an air-side hotel, but they can be expensive. In Dubai (for example) We stay at the Crown Plaza which is next to Festival City Mall.. - Morning flight from BKK - Plane lands just after midday in Dubai - No need to collect baggage - straight through immigration and out of the airport in 15mins. - Arrive at hotel 10mins later - Chill / Pool / Evening meal in the Mall / Sleep - Wakeup - shower etc - Uber to Airport - Already have boarding pass so go straight through security to gate (grab a coffee and a bite on the way) - Take the flight fully refreshed. (no need to sleep in the Airport - the Crown Plaza has cost anywhere from 3000 to 4500 baht for the night) It doesn't time out so well on the way back - so we usually stop over for 2 nights after landing at about midnight.
  5. After all those flights, you still haven't learned to wear a sleeping mask. Hopeless. I hate these things, wife wears them, I can't stand them and find them more of an irritant. I also agree.. on my last flight (flying east - so night time departure, but flew into daylight) some fool had their window shade open lighting up the whole cabin... the irritating part of that is that the flight attendants seemed oblivious, meanwhile on some flights the FA's are very vigilant to such ignorant behavior.
  6. Set your new phone from your old phone using 'Smart Switch'... (app must be installed on both phones)
  7. I looked at that Richard, it is no problem getting songs, it is transferring them from one smartphone to another. If referring to Spotify - there is nothing to transfer. Your playlists are linked to your log-in, not the device.
  8. No... there are two options: 1) Standard Spotify (free) you need to be connected to the internet (and I think there are some adds every 30mins - not quite sure about that one). 2) Premium Spotify (monthly fee - 139 baht) and you can download all your songs (particularly useful when travelling)
  9. Interesting point - IF, as an adult, she knowingly travelled on an uninsured vehicle is she not accountable ?
  10. True... IF... I know you ONLY deal in absolutes, what can be proven or is quoted to have 'been proven' and will not entertain any assumptions whatsoever... ... However, if you allowed yourself to drift away from that level of rigidity when looking at the photo you might observe that the 'car has nosed out into the road' and is stopped and the motorcycle is lying on the road next to it which 'indicates' that the car pulled out on the motorcycle, the lack of damage indicates high-speed was not a factor.
  11. Filmed 'after' or 'before' the tragic loss of life.... Looks like a very fresh lick of paint there.
  12. Given that 80% of road fatalities are motorcyclists... and so many do not wear a helmet, it could be 'guessed' that somewhere in the region of 50% of those are from head injuries that would have been avoided had a helmet been worn... thus: a very rough estimate: about 10,000 lives. It needs to be restated before some bright spark highlights there is no way of knowing without studies - of course not, this is a pure layman's guess assuming half of road deaths on a motorcycle are from head-injury. Knowing the mindset of some characters on this forum: Someone will of course mention - but those people might now be a burden on their family etc... I've seen all bizarre arguments and whatifery on here... Any such points are moronic in the context of helmets preventing deaths.
  13. And nasty people twist things... He didn't 'jump into the ditch' as you state. He was silly and exercised terrible judgment and 'climbed over the barrier slipped' we've no idea why... it could have been to retrieve something - its unlikely we'll ever know his mind-set and the possible reason for behaving why he did. But your suggestion that he 'jumped into the ditch' highlights the degree of insensitivity and nastiness that you are now very well known for... What a vapid character you are.
  14. Look up the definitions of sexual assault - your understanding is incomplete. Going by the legal definition this was 'sexual assault'. You are under the wrong 'assumption' IF you think sexual assault means only 'groping' of a region you consider sexual. OK - apologies for that... It just read that way as you argued this was not a sexual assault, it appeared you were attempting to diminish the severity of this behavior, particularly when you wrote... "Did he grab her pu--y or a-- or boo--? " Its still sexual assault.... It doesn't need to be 'more than that' to be considered Sexual Assault - it seems you are attempting to diminish the severity of this incident - the girl must have been terrified. It's my spin, its a legal definition: Try again - re-educate yourself before you do. Yes.. but its not 'limited' to that - this is where you have a mistaken interpretation. The Egyptian has also now been arrested for 'Sexual Assault'... its clear in this instance the Police know the definition better than you, too !!..
  15. I don't think its a drainage ditch - I think its an 'access ditch' where a water pipe can be accessed should the pipe-work need servicing. Others have mentioned that a grate over the top would have been better than having a 'barrier' around the ditch, but, who would have thought someone would climb over it ? its not quite the trip hazard some are implying. Another note - given the levels of maintenance here, IF there were to be a grate, over the years it would have eroded into a bigger hazard.
  16. Why take wild guesses, the guy died, leave it at that, until we hear more. Have some sympathy fir his relatives. No nastiness in my question, just pure curiosity as to how such an event evolves... .... what was the mindset to climb over the railings like that - hence the question, was he trying to retrieve something ? IF you don't want to engage in such discussions its perhaps advisable to read the news instead of logging into a forum designed for discussion.
  17. Given the publicity and level of complaints this received (Thai media / forums) I imagine this has been removed already.
  18. On a recent flight I sat next to a Thai flight attendant who was 'dead-heading'.... She managed to wrap herself up, face mask, eye mask, hoodie, neck pillow... then didn't move for 5 hours - just slept through. Obviously well practiced at sleeping on planes. The best sleep I get on flights is when I'm exhausted and take an 'aid' (as earlier discussed).. I will have been up since about 5am... and I'm catching a 10pm flight, I speak to the FA, no food etc - wake up with a coffee as late as possible. As soon as the seatbelt seat is off, seats flat - I'm usually already well on my way to falling asleep by then. BUT... when not travelling for work, with family in Eco, like you I just don't sleep, I find it incredibly difficult so wherever possible, I don't try - I take day flights and use a quick layover to sleep (on the way to or from the UK) i.e. fly in the morning: BKK to Dubai - we're chilling in a pool by mid afternoon, have a dinner, early to bed, then back at the airport in the morning (<24 hr layover bags through to final destination), no need to check-in (already have boarding passes) - head straight to gate, grab a coffee and breakfast on the way. IMO - IF unable to sleep well on flights, breaking up the flight with a layover is the best option and it also helps with jet-lag.
  19. Many drugs administered in an ER can give a false positive. Errors can be made. If the man was brought into an emergency room with a traumatic injury he may have been given an opioid related pain relief. If a blood test is taken after its administration, it will show up in the blood test. The time when a blood test was given and what is identified matters. Good points - but the more pertinent question would be.. what is the veracity of this information ?... ... I'm calling BS until a valid link is provided (and gossip from stickboy is not valid proof).
  20. Given the injuries.. no, I don't think such an assumption is stupid.... especially the shattered pelvis, a motorcycle accident seems most probable. As this is a discussion forum to share, debate and discuss events and opinions - what would you assume the mode of transport was ?
  21. Valid point... Its an assumption that he was riding a motorcycle, particularly given the injuries (crushed leg, shattered pelvis, torn bladder)..... that would be my bet anyway - but you are right, nowhere is it reported that this was a motorcycle accident.
  22. Topics about sleeping on a flight - not watching TV or bragging about flying business or First.
  23. Agreed... but its not a lack of empathy that drives his lack of ability to comprehend the financial plight of others, its stupidity..... .. the lack of empathy is simply voicing that stupidity in the manner he has.
  24. In perspective - thats a valid point... more so when considering 75-80% of road fatalities here are motorcyclists. So, yes, the flat-bed of a pickup has to be safer... its harder to fall off !!... Your point regarding 'economic reality' is also highly valid - the same can be said of using Song Thaews for school busses etc.... What are the alternatives ?.... Additionally, its not the modes of transport that are inherently unsafe, its the road users who fail to drive safely.
