There a woman, quite likely very young in desperate need of assistance somewhere - probably quite pshcholigically messed up... This could have been a still birth (6 months early etc) and she was in a situatoin where hosptial treatment was not available to her... Its not sick, its tragic. There are foundatoins that can help, but this is another area where authorities could be taking greater responsibilty from both an education and support perspective.

I agree... and if a cyclist hits a pedestrian at a crossing in the UK, they are held responsible (even if the pedestrain is not paying attention - but I think there are also other variables at play too). Its a separate point: but its a valid arguement that ALL road users should have insurance... which can pay out for 'at fault damages' and compensation. Imagine getting hit by a cyclist at a crossing and you can no long work ? In Thaiand, if you are hit by an uninsured motoryclist ?... I can't get 'workers comp insurance' directly, but have it with the company I am currently working for (which pays up to 12 months max of missed work)... ... but if an uninsured motorcyclist seriously injurs me at a crossing ? ... or even a car... Will they pay out for loss of earnings if I can't work - if they have no money and aren't insured - there is nothing to get anyway ?... life is full of risks, but the absensce of effective policing makes these risks and also consequences far greater.

However, not looking at all is a distant cry from being on heightened alert when crossing a road... ------ The only time I've nearly been hit on a crossing.. - A box van didn't want to completely stop, while all other traffic had stopped for the crossing, the box van slowed, but didn't stop trying to 'time my crossing' as he approached so he didn't have to stop... a large wing mirror clipped me. Stupidly, in anger I kicked the side of the Van... I was furious.. the drive stopped, got out, looked at me and got back in his van and drove off... (I was lucky he wasn't more of a nutter). - Another time, crossing with my Son, all traffic stopped, a taxi driver didn't like that we were on the crossing so blasted his horn and didn't want to stop... ... I waved annoyance with my arm (not the middle finger or anything like that), but that was still enough to annoy the taxi driver... he skidded to a halt, abandoned his taxi in the middle of the road (ekammai) and got out... I was with my Son (about 5 years old) and was not about to get into a fight, so I just continue on. Point here - is the are lunatics about, the authorities do nowhere near enough to ensure that ALL drivers of any vehicles know they will face serious penalties for not stopping for pedestrians....

He was doing nearly 50kph? How do you know that? I think he was attempting to calculate the 'speed' at which the the vehicle hit the ground. Av height of a floor: 3m (so 15m) I calculate that the car was travelling at 61.7kmh (38.8mph) when it hit the ground.

In Thailand, it has always been the law that pedestrians have the right of way at crossings. The laws themselves are typically sound, but it is the pervasive disregard for these laws and the widespread apathy in their enforcement by authorities (especially the Police) that allow such problems to persist unchecked. Only when a significant figure is affected, or when public outrage reaches a peak, do we see a momentary 'crackdowns' announced as someone in a position of authorite makes their public statement... we may then witness brief flashes of adherence to the laws in certain areas that fade just as quickly as they arise.

A road incident in Thailand occurs between the hours of midnight and 5am and you suggest there is no 'reason' to suspect booze was involved.... I agree that suspicion involves prejudice, but its far from short of reason... Meanwhile, given the abudnant news articiles of DUI incidents at night time in Thailand, your objection to the assumption that booze was involved is weaker than it would be had the incident occured at 3pm or in the UK or Germany... So I'm not going to stand up and state my understainding of iStudo policy as 100% fact - but what I woud suggest, is anyone purchasing from such a store to double check what happens if an item is defective. Its probably still better than getting home and finding out then... but best still, pay 'after' they check if you can get away with it.... Bought a TV last week (PowerBoy at homePro)... Paid, expected to 'take it home'... then they wanted to check it... If an item is defective, you've already purchased it - they just help with the warranty process That said: a few years ago purchased the iPhone 13 from iStudio in Thonglor J-Avenue - and they didn't 'test it'... I walked out with the unopened phone (as after asking, there was no point in them checking) Recently I purchased a 'power bank' (iStudio K-Village, Rama IV) - my phone was nearly out of battery and I needed urgent charge so asked them to check (it came with 50% charge) - asked then, again, what would have happened if it was defective, they said, they'd send it for repair / (meaning start the warranty process). My experience differs based on the questions I've asked them - is why I don't buy from iStudio (unless desperate for an item as I was the charger) - perhaps something was lost in translation the both times I asked - so I can't be certain, but I'm sure enough not to want to shop there. Wash rinse reapeat - you keep saying that, but thats not my experience... hence the process to check that it works is somewhat moot... Again - something may have been lost in translation, I could be wrong as its not exactly a 'frequent occurance' that I get something from iStudio.... Your suggestion of how this plays out is far more logical - but, I've made this mistake of thinking logic takes precident enough times not to make assumptions.

You make valid points... they'd be a lot more 'effective' if the policy included 'swapping the phone' for one that does not have an issue, if an issue is found. But, as I highlighted earlier in the thread, when they 'test' the phone, you've already paid (in most cases, but not in the case of the Op)... and if they find an issue, then that phone is yours, so iStudio will assist you though the 'warranty process' to send it to apple to get it fixed. Thus: I'm not acutally sure of the reason for iStudio checking the phones.

As far as 'activation' is concerned - I imagine its very much the same with Andoid products... none need a 'carrier' activation, they just require to be turned on and used (i.e. any SIM inserted (or e-SIM) to be used).
