Fortunately, most Thai people have an acute sense of class and can gauge it instantly, just as anyone with insight and discernment can. Your own words here painfully illustrate why you believe Thais perceive you as low class. Without even meeting you, it’s evident from your comments alone. So, don’t drag others into your mire with the use of “we”. There are many contributors here who demonstrate a level of class far above the standards you exemplify.

This is as dumb as the seatbelt or helmet argument - never used it, never needed it... The cognitive disconnect highlights a very simplistic stupidity. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other agencies: Global Statistics: It's estimated that around 20-30% of all road traffic deaths worldwide involve alcohol. This varies significantly by region; in some areas, alcohol involvement may reach or exceed 50% of road fatalities. Annual Estimates: Globally, about 1.35 million people die each year due to road accidents. This means 270,000 to 405,000 deaths can be linked to drink-driving annually. Non-Fatal Injuries: The number of injuries related to alcohol-impaired driving is even higher. For every death, there are several injuries and instances of long-term disability. Globally, road accidents lead to around 50 million injuries annually, with a notable proportion related to alcohol use. Regional Variations: Countries with strict drink-driving laws and effective enforcement tend to have lower alcohol-related accident rates. In contrast, regions with limited law enforcement and higher alcohol consumption rates see significantly higher numbers. So... to answer your dumbed down, over simplified and idiotic response... There are between 270,000 to 405,000 names that could be mentioned to answer your question... those are just deaths... a lot more maimed. Your implication that because someone has not yet had a drink driving related accident means its safe, is simply moronic and outrageously deluded to the point of sheer idiocy.

A good point... I've friends who can resolve these issues very simply.... (Police guys)... They've helped on a few occasions when a friend was over the limit and got caught. The joke is that I never ask them for help, they ask why I don't drink & drive, they can help if I have an issue... They don't get the point... its the Police I'm bothered about - its hurting someone cos I was an idiot and drove drunk that bothers me (no matter how carefully I thought I may drive).
-
I think the silent majority have stated their point well enough. Results are in line with what I expected. Because you tailored the poll - and didn't leave an option for... ... having one or two drinks and remaining within the DUI limit and drive. So there was no option for the many who may have a beer or two and drive. Its a valid point - Do you think two cans of beer over an place you over the legal limit to drive ? Its an irrelevant point if you are having 4 beers as there is a greater certainty that someone will be over the limit. We used to get the Police Turning up to the Bars with breathalysers and we'd have a go.... I've also tried the 'gadget' breathalyser, but doubt how accurate they are (about +/- 10% error I'd guess)... All fairly moot if someone is driving after 4 or 6 beers consumed over a couple of hours - they are drunk over the limit and impaired. If a normal size male has had just 2 beer (330ml cans of Singha for example) its very unlikely they are over the legal limit or impaired.
-
So you are admiting you 'could' have a minor collision (driving slowly as you do) and it will result in minor damage to your car... But what about the pedestrian or motorcyclist you hit ??? ... The collision may seem minor to you, but not to them..... Thats why you are selfish, you have not considered the others around you who may be impacted by your drunk driving.
-
It was just a long winded rant to avoid the reality, avoid answering the question and to suit his narrative. I'll have a 330ml can of beer or two and drive or ride.... I won't have more than that. There isn't really a place in the poll for that.... But, MalolmB may be right - there are perhaps a lot more out there who think nothing of driving durnk, and by driving drunk I mean over the legal limit. Two can's of beer will / should not put me over the limit... My narrative is: IF someone knowingly drives while over the drink driving limit they are likely to be impaired - and that can have consequences. My narrative is: IF someone has 5 or 6 beers and drives, there is little doubt that they are impaired and have a greater chance of being involved in an incident that impacts other innocent people. My narrative is: trying to normalise this behavior is the remit of ayholes. IF MalcolmB - all you are doing is having two beers in an hour and driving home, its unlikely you are over the limit or impaired... If however, you are having 6 or 7 beers over a couple of hours, you are drunk and impaired - and no amount of 'careful driving' will change that fact.

Not 'easy' - its arguably risky to be carrying your passport around everywhere you go IMO.... I need to travel regularly for work, my passport has my Visa's in it... lose a passport, and that makes life very tricky for many people.... No so much a problem if you have no need for regular travel though. This is the reason I use a Pink ID... to limit the reliance on a Passport so I can keep it safe at home. & the Qatar thing is nuts - not just the passport, but when I've had QID I have to show that in a pub or bar (not in higher end hotel bars though - where drinks are even more extortionate).

How busy is Suvarnaphumi?

Nothing... just the usual swings and roundabouts.... There seems to be a lot fewer recent complaints on here of long queues at immigrations, so it could be improving. -

The silent majority according to the poll Post a poll with better options if you want more realistic and balanced results....
-
A rather revealing statement - You're admitting to driving like a t!t when sober then ?..... hmmmm...
-
The poll itself asks questions that are very specific and clearly loaded to 'give an answer the Op wants to see' to justify his agenda. 1) I have never consumed alcohol and driven a motor vehicle in my life. 2) Yes, I am competent to drive after having a few, but I don’t drive when blind drunk. 3) Yes, I drink drive. 4) I can have one or two drinks and remain within the DUI limit and drive. Option 4 is missing, so most people cannot answer the poll.. Becasue many people might have one beer, or perhaps two beers and drive, but there is a moral and legal gap between 2 beers (which places someone close to the legal limit) and being impaired. If someone is having one or two beers then driving that is not 'drunk driving' People may not be blind drunk after 8 beers, but still be well over the legal driving limit and their driving is impaired - they may not think so, they may think they are safer by 'thinking' they are being careful... AND below, explains why... IF drink riding is so dangerous, why do these people think 'drink driving' is as safe as driving while sober ??? Does the response below highlight the selfishness of drunk drivers ? IMO - Its ok to ride or drive after one or two beers... But after more than that anyone starts to become impaired... the difference highlighted with the comment below is... .... in the scenario of 'drunk riding' the person is 'concerned for themselves' .... in the scenario of 'drunk driving' the person has no 'concern for anyone else' So... the question I'd ask those who drink drive - would you put a spike on your steering wheel and not wear a seatbelt and then have the same amount of beers and drink drive ???... (the risk is now also placed on yourselves, not just innocent others around you, similar to drink riding). Everyones limit is individual of course - but once anyone is taking themselves beyond there own known or assumed DUI limit by have 4 or 5 beers then driving... they're putting others at risk - attempts to justify their actions are flawed and highlight selfishness, carelessness and their antisocial and self-centred nature.

You can get a quick private medical care in Europe for a lot less money than in Thailand. If UK does not have this option, they could have travelled to countries in Europe that do. Well - thats that then... issues with the NHS resolved, just travel to a different country !!!

B/S I used Uber many times you pay what quoted Not true all the time: From the perspective of 'ride tolerance' UBER works differently in different locations. Try and get an Uber in Turkey - you will not pay the UBER price - the compromise is that someone picks you up, they'll turn up and 'quote their price'..... The difference in Thailand is that Uber conceded to GRAB (Singapore based).. & the taxi / ride-sharing war saw Grab prosper.... with a concession to Uber, 30% I think. ... smart move I think, Grab could boost prices because of no competition, Uber take a bigger chuck anyway.. (30% of higher prices is better than a fight). Bolt is somehow powerful enough to get into the mix..... but....

Cost of a beer in Singapore
richard_smith237 replied to saintdomingo's topic in Singapore General Chat
I recall Singapore being very expensive for beers... then, when I was spending a lot more time there there were 'happy hour patterns'... where we'd follow the happy hours around Clark Quay and Boat Quay... (kind of similar to the boomer ballon chasers !)..... BUT... Dubai & Doha takes things to a whole new level with beer costs, yet some places can be found that aren't so outrageously expensive - relatively so. BUT... (a big but) - IST Turkey Airport.... I had a pint in there and was simply not prepared, outside of the airport beers in Istanbul are not outrageous, so I didn't really expect a beer in the airport to be excessive... US$19 for a Pint of Effe's Draft beer... Thats 640 baht... Most expensive beer I've ever had. -
Taxi Driver Arrested for Attacking Australian Tourist
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
But if you are going to do it, as millions do everyday, at least do it safely. 100% harleyclarkey... It takes an idiot of quantifiably bottom-of-the-barrel intelligence to believe they can drink and drive safely. To suggest “millions do it safely every day” is an even deeper plunge into delusion; they aren’t doing it safely - those drivers and everyone around them are merely relying on blind luck. This isn't bravery or skill; it's sheer, dumb stupidity cloaked in denial, a gamble with lives they have no right to risk. -
Foreigner Wrecks Chiang Mai Stall After Smoking Ban Warning

100% agree. No.. asking him, sure, of course they had every right. Throwing water over him, no right. IF the two women told the Brit aggressively and impolitely (as I am assuming they did) then they escalated a situation that may not have otherwise occurred. That said, its possible the story is perfectly correct and they asked politely and the guy is just an outrageous tool. -
Foreigner Wrecks Chiang Mai Stall After Smoking Ban Warning
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
I agree with you.... I think smoking in public unless in a specified / designated smoking area should be banned out right. But, I also sympathised a little with smokers, if they want to smoke, there should be area's where they can smoke.... it can't just be 'banned everywhere'... But... I would also state that throwing buckets of water at people (Songkran excluded) is also obnoxious behavior. -
I get wine delivered all the time (12-24 bottles)..... No issues whatsoever.

Thailand pumps the brakes on private sector traffic perks

Ultimately - this is why we nearly always just drive - the added time at each end getting to & from the BTS stations make it not worth it for us…
