You assume he could read? Quite a lot of the Hill Tribe people living in that area never went to any school. Extremely valid point... I'm wondering why there were not full on barriers blocking the road completely.... The 'land slide' is clearly an unstable mass of land and could easily have 'slid further' - so the electricity was not the only hazard and simply placing a 'sign' seems rather negligent. But more so than any of the above, I'm wondering why on earth they would not turn off power the the fallen power lines - surely thats the very first step in any response.

How about 'authorities promptly' switching off the electricity ????? - We have one fool ignoring signs. - & a whole department of fools ignoring the most basic of safety protocols not turning off the power. Agreed... a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking on this issue - but thats only natural and this is a Discussion forum after all... Would have been useless against a fire that powerful anyway. Completely agree. 3 Teachers died - their bodies found cradling the kids - that was as much command has the could possibly have had in their dying seconds in that intense instantly spreading inferno. I'm aware that Aramco has spearheaded carbon recapture tech and still is... Particularly with haulage and shipping.... developments may be made to scale this down to ICE's. The same can be said for Nuclear Fusion (not not Fission), and Hydrogen fuel cell tech... ... I'm interested in them as an alternative, but see we are not quite there yet, although perhaps a lot closer with H2.

I think in the past - the brake failure excuses are for three reasons. 1) Poor driving - riding the brakes on a hill and them over heating 2) Driver inattention - brake failure is the go to excuse 3) Rare instances of genuine brake failure - poor maintenance.

Thanks - I think the acrynms being used... LNG / LPG / CNG / LGV etc are being mixed up... I'm not sure what this bus was using - but for all gasses at these temperatures, they need to be compressed. Also, as you pointed out, I'm not sure of an explosion - but the rate of the spread of fire was rapid... This is a photo of the driver running to get a fire extinguisher after trying and failing to get the back door open.

The reasonable response is no LNG in ANY form of public transport.... When I have e-mailed our schools before (two of them) regarding their transport policy for field trips, part of their policy is 'Diesel vehicles' i.e. no LNG / CNG vehicles because of the known safety risks compared to something as 'less volatile' as diesel.

So many reports that the bus driver ran away.... but they paint a false narative. Upon catching fire, the bus driver can be seen in numerous videos attempting to open the rear door of the bus... in another video he can then be seen to fetch a fire extinguisher (presumably from one of the other busses).... and attempt to use that (before the video cuts). I suspect the 'LGV tank explosion' was so severe, he (he bus driver or other teachers) couldn't access the back of the bus from within. That said: after all attempts failed to save the children, the bus driver did then 'flee'.... I think through fear of immediate retribution from bystanders. Thats not to forgive his actions - but to shine light on the reports that he fled when he did not, not immediately anyway.

Agreed... but lets not be too judgemental here - I bet every single person who has contributed to this topic and drives has done exactly the same thing as the op... (follow cars into a junction then get 'stranded' as the lights change)... Its just a daily occurrence. We (Drivers) would never get anywhere if we didn't 'push through' and approach driving here with a degree of assertion... If we didn't enter a junction until the exit was clear we'd have vehicles just going around us instead.... (and drawing a lot of anger on ourselves as well). I agree that there should be fines for ensuring traffic isn't blocked, that junctions remain clear etc... but who are we kidding here... the police are lazy... its just the AI and cameras doing 'some work at some intersections'....

The real issue of course is that 'if you already know about it'... so do the Police.... If its being reported on, the police definitely know about it... So the issue isn't the racers... its the Police, they just dont care to deal with it. Simple solution - Put up checkpoints on any stretch of road the try and race on.

Two issues here. - Someone with 'mental issues'.. or rather 'mental issues strong enough to be used an excuse for such behavior (as steeling a car) is not under guardianship - so, who is the guardian and are they accountable for her actions ???.... - The Dumb idiot who left their car running and unlocked while they went shopping because they had a 'cat in the car' that they wanted to provide with Air-con. Is leaving your car unlocked and running while you leave its sight (go shopping) not voiding the insurance ? (thief damaged the car).

As general observations - 100% agree with all of them !!... Many fantastic things here... but safety is most definitely one of them. As you pointed out - Crossing the road. Remember the Dr who was killed crossing the road in Jan 2022.. There was lots of talk, lots of announcements, lots of talk of enforcing the rules... they even painted a couple of padestrian crossings with a fresh lick of paint... ... Cross a road today and as you highlighted - as soon as we step onto a road we are 'fair game' *i.e. almost a target !!... In truth nothing was done to improve pedestrian safety and the reality of that truth is that nothing was don't because not enough important people (people of decision making power) cared enough to make the efforts to effect change. ... Thailand - Apathy here is great... it means life is chilled but that double edged sword means the same levels of apathy result in carelessness and ultimately needless deaths.

That not quite the true measure... as motorcyclists contribute mostly to the road deaths here. For example - per 4 wheeled vehicle the stats show that there area more road deaths (in 4 wheeled vehicles) in the USA than Thailand per 100,000 of population. While licensing is a facet - the primary issue here is the cultural approach to safety, corners cut, a lack of awareness and / or respect for safety. Public vehicles (Busses) allowed to operate with LPG - this was a vehicle that has repeatedly been rebuilt on a 50 year old chassis. The issue in this case is not 'just' the driving standards - its systemic flaws across the board from training, to licensing, certification, standards and on and on... Its tragic - but look at how many kids die in ponds in rural areas while the grandparents are not watching - the issue of safety here involves the nation and improvement requires a cultural shift - this must obviously be lead by authorities and enforced by effective policing... but that takes a lot of effort and Thailand doesn't really like 'effort' when the results are no immediate, across the board society in general here is reactive not proactive.

I know exactly why people wear them. Your last paragraph, designed to make you look clever, doesn't make sense in English - '... and on comprehend... Typed on a phone in a taxi - autocorrect hit a speed bump ! “comparison” - a clever person would have taken context into account & identified the error without the need to use the error & try to point score !

The leading cause of death for 0-15 year olds in Thailand is drowning. Concentrate on the real stuff, all these virtue signalling announcements are starting to get sickening. & cover all facets of child safety. Meanwhile - officials, & the DLT should be held to account for allowing dangerous vehicles to continue using Thailands roads. It was Thaksin who instigated LGV in public transport - with an eggy face the family now has to back pedal. Baby Thaksin has a tough decision to make - admit the ‘mistake of her father’ or abolish LGV / NGV in all public transport & enforce & increase certification of conversions in haulage vehicles & private transport.

Indeed…. It’s not what you wear but how you wear it… Wife ‘looks’ like a hi-so but I’m too cheap to go for the real Chopard or Chanel so she gets decent copys (not sure from where)… the amusing part is that everyone assumes they are real - she doesn’t bother about it & is quite open that the stuff is fake Shyite… She gets her clothes from Shien & looks million $$$ - she has a way of wearing stuff that ‘just looks good’…. It’s great for me, cos I can just wear anything & by association get treated extremely well. The faux face here & money worship is amusing - I see it as part of an amusing game.

That’s pretty much it… Theoretically, you are not supposed to enter a junction until the exit is clear. The fine is incorrect though, it should be for blocking a junction, not for jumping a red light. Reality: it’s impossible to drive the ‘theoretically correct way’…. You’ll just have to swallow the fine.

A very sad but predictable reality…

I nearly missed a flight in Kl once - KUL-BKK.., Gate C10 (or something similar)…. Knowing that int’l departures ‘usually’ left from the satellite building, I headed over there & had a couple of beers… went to C10 & it was empty… The gate was G10 & I had to hightail it back to the main terminal. Printing on boarding pass was crappy. & for the record… 2 airports in KL.. & yes, I wrote a book about the drama, which is now being made into a 1min docu-series !

If they inspected the proposed bus and found it unsafe, poor tyre condition, no seatbelts & running on NGV then fair enough…..…… …. but, I doubt this is nothing more that a knee jerk response with no basis in intelligent reason.

Please don’t let this be another CoD thread / debate…. We’re at least 6 months away from the recycling of that one… We first have to go through the ‘Lazada wallet’ debate…

It’s ok to get upset in such a tragic situation, this just shows her humanity. Now, to prove her humanity she is perfectly placed to exact effective & lasting change…. Let’s see if LGV busses are still on the roads a month or a year from now. Let’s see the owner (not the driver) prosecuted for allowing an unsafe vehicle into operation. Let’s see if the owners of all these haulage Lorrie’s get their brakes checked…..
