Man Robbed of 3.3 Million Baht After Bank Withdrawal in Bangkok
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Not really... I've been in the awkward situation of having to carry that amount into a Bank. Selling my car (two occasions)... On one occasion - the buyer (Thai) turned up with cash - we drove to the Bank and deposited the money. Completed the PoA forms / Proof of Sale etc... then the buyer drove of in his new car (my old car). Another, the buyer (Western), turned up, we went to his bank, he withdrew the cash, we carried it to my bank, deposited the cash, then went to the DLT and completed the exchange of ownership. I think the reason was that over a certain amount of money the bank said the transfer was not instant - or something like that - it may be different now. Additionally, a lot of businesses are still cash businesses.... people go to the bank and the end of the week / month with a large Sum. Another reason - envelope money from Weddings: We had over 1 MB envelope money from our wedding. BiL put the boxes in the boot of his car (as he didnt trust to keep it in the hotel) then paid it in to the bank after the weekend. ----------- One of the things that has always surprised me here. Why don't criminals 'case-out' outside Banks and look for people carrying 'pouches' which could have large amounts of money in them - could be an easy target. The other - Criminals watching at large weddings - watching where the envelope money is taken to, then ripping them off. -
There will be very mixed responses to this... There has been mixed advice, with some regional police chief's suggesting a photo-copy is fine, while others suggest you need to carry your passport. IMO - the choice is individual. Within province - a Photo of the Passport on your phone (and entry stamps / visa etc) is sufficient. As is carrying a photo-copy (many laminate this) For most Police your Driving License will be fine. A copy of a Pink ID will also act as Government issued photo ID. Outside of province - I carry my passport with baggage, but keep that at the hotel so its accessible within a reasonable time frame should it be necessary. The risk of passport loss and hassle of replacement, plus impact on travel arrangements for the time it takes to replace by far exceeds and potential of the Police specifically demanding to see my passport and subsequent potentail hassle of not having the actual passport in possession. In any such sitation, if handled politely in the vast majority of situations the Police will be more than satisfied with a PhotoCopy, Photo on your Phone, Driving License, or Pink ID. ------- As pointed out - As far as the 2014-2015 issue of the Police in Sukhumvit Bangkok (Thonglor Police) asking for passports and fining people without - this reached national headlines - the police officers turned out to be 'somewhat rogue' and were told to stop.

IF you are drink driving because you live remotely and can't get taxi's then you are part of the problem. It seems people such as yourself don't mind this and justify your actions because 'others do it too'... Somehow, across society, DUI is widely acceptable here... I know of so many deaths as a direct result of DUI - families torn apart.... Also so many accidents - most Thai's I know have had a drink driving related accident at some point in their life... (and quite a few westerners too - on their motorcycle)... Selfish and stupid behavior.
-
OK drunk driver... But you are attempting to point score with your 'bubble' comment when presenting an argument from the point of justifying behavior which is antisocial, illegal, dangerous to innocent others, selfish, self centred and ultimately extremely stupid..... I've seen your posts before... but unlike MalcomB never realised you were dumb enough to try and justify drink driving... Do you also get into the state of driving needing to close one eye ? -------- So as not to be a hypocrite - I drove very drunk once... We were staying at a friends resort (Khao Yai) and arrived late... We just pulled up to the front and met everyone. Had a few beers, then dinner, were given room keys... The room was about 1 km away... (private land)... We all got drunk - at about 2am... we drove to the room - I was 'blind drunk'... The next morning I saw my 'perfect' parking... I'd abandoned the car which about 5cm before I'd driven into a 2-3m ditch... No one would have got hurt - but we would have needed a crane to get the car out. That was extremely stupid.
-
Don't be stupid - I wouldn't tell them to relocate - I'd tell them the same thing the law tells them, don't drink and drive... its that simple. This thread as the "don't argue with an idiot..... " quote all over it... ... "Idiots just drag you down and beat you with experience"... You are justifying YOUR drink driving because others do it - that is extremely stupid. I know its a facet of Thailand that many drink drive. Its also a facet of Thailand that 80% of road fatalities are motorcyclists and 50% of those are without helmets. .... Just because 'others' behave in a certain manner does not make that behavior any less stupid.
-
That's is perhaps one of the most stupid arguments I've read... ... "My government sells bombs so its ok for me to drink drive and put innocent people at greater risk"... Do you also throw litter out of your car?... what does it matter, your country bombs other countries... the logic disconnect is astonishing. The world being imperfect, is not a valid personal excuse to make it worse.
-
Don't live in remote places then.... Your choice where you live, your choice if you drink and drive. The issue is one is antisocial... I do see somewhat of a grey area - i.e. having one or two beers with dinner and driving home - but that may not put you beyond the limit of impairment. But, if someone is going out and having a skin-full, then driving home impaired while under the misconception that they are being careful, more diligent, more aware becasue they know they are drunk - then there is a strong argument that this person should not be permitted a licence full stop... ... Not only are such idiots a danger to society when drunk, but their absense of any basic decency, absence of intellect and common sense indicates they are so stupid they also present a threat to other road users while sober.
-
The outright self centred stupidity on display on this thread is astonishing... Some outright idiots trying to justify driving while drunk. The only thing more to do is ignore the halfwitted, selfish, tosspot idiots who think driving while drunk is acceptable in any civilised world... these are simple minded cavemen who think acting with a level of responsibility is somehow being woke.... Absolute idiot(s) - and this forum is giving such halfwitted morons oxygen, there is one in particular who I don't even think is trolling - he is perhaps the biggest of the idiots I have read on this forum... What a complete mistake of a human being this character is.

Do you ever feel like a prisoner in Thailand?
richard_smith237 replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Easily done online - but I get your point. They are an unnecessary legacy of antiquated regulations. Agreed to some extent - but aren't visa applications / permissions etc arduous for any country ? If my wife want to live long term in the UK - obtaining ILR is a quite a process, but once complete - staying is easier. Somewhat invasive and again, a legacy of antiquated regulations - that said, I understand officials who 'suspect' that guys may 'only' be married for Visa purposes - thats more of an insult to Thai women, when their own (Thai male officials) recognise this potential loop hole - We don't get Western Women marrying foreign men for financial security in a sham marriage that gives the guy opportunities to live in that country. Immigration don't do home visits in Bangkok - I'm not sure why. Not really. No fear mongering at all - thats just your bias bob... The news circulates whatever it beleives is newsworthy, whether thats a foreigner behaving badly or a Mercedes driver killing a granny on a pedestrian crossing.... Thailand loves the 'drama and drumming up outrage' but it passes very quickly. Thats not a rumour bob, thats just law firm drumming up business.... "Oh no, inspections, better go to Integrity Legal and ensure your visa is all correct".... That is a very very thick line.... the differences are far greater than the similarities with regards to bureaucratic process for foreigners. -
Rather a laymans view - there is reason why and its more than price... A $40 wine from Australia could give you more of a hangover than a $10 wine from France. Thus, region and perhaps even type of grape could have an impact.
-
They are - however, with wine making fruit or not fruit is quite quite so 'binary'. Fruit wine is wine (fermented beverage) that is made from fruit other than grapes (and apples which is cider). Regarding hangovers - I now avoid wines from Australia as I found that they gave me a stronger hangover than wines from other regions. Whether that is down to artificial or natural preservatives or natural components specific to the region is unknown to me - however, I know that Australian wine does have a different impact the following morning.

Most people looking to purchase a second hand house will be looking on FaceBook Market Place. Most agents will be 'scouring through' FaceBook Market Place and contact you and telling you they have interested parties... they don't, they are fishing and looking for a 3% commission & basically asking your permission to re-list the house elsewhere... You will also see some 'cheeky agents' re-listing your house with your photo's on Market Place... (even if you've said no to them re-listing). But, in short - FB Market Place will reach the most independent buyers.

New E-Gates for Thai Passports Debut at Suvarnabhumi Airport
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not really - The E-Gates I've used in the past are pretty quick... Additionally.... "it is broke"... Thailand has had issues providing sufficient Immigration Personnel to man the immigration counters for over a decade with arrivals (and departures) complaining of long waits up to an hour - that seems broke to me..... E-Gates are an obvious solution. I suspect those claiming this is dystopian may also have a dislike for digital payments society is moving towards (QR Codes, TrueWallet, Prompt Pay etc)... seems more distrust of new things. -

Indeed, what began as a potentially intriguing thread was swiftly demolished by the OP’s relentless, mind-numbing attacks on every comment... It seems we've all failed to recognise the glaring signs of dementia, clearly displayed in the OP’s deranged responses - Point #6: People who can recognise dementia and call it out - we've failed... -

I've just realised... You're a complete child who needs to have the last word... ... just another trollish nobhed on this forum who lacks the basic abilities to hold a conversation instead wanting to turn everything into a conflict... Now I have your measure its easy enough to write off anything you post as nothing more than irritating noise... -

And you have just confirmed your own status !!! ... Just as someone writes, "she / he said" when referring to another's written word (i.e. on this forum)... Or "that sounds like..." its perfectly acceptable when referring to the written word.... ... your comment "sounds kind-of dumb"... -
And I tried to assist a guy at Chatuchak for TDL. His yellow book wouldn't cut it. Told to obtain a COR from CW. All this is discussed over and over in Motor Forum Ok... so as pointed out.. Some DLT's accept the Yellow House Book, some want a CoR. So the statement that a Yellow House Book will not be accepted is incorrect - experiences clearly vary. FWIW - DLT at Chatuchak did accept my Yellow House Book as proof of address when registering my Vehicle in my name (I did this myself instead of having the dealer do it)

Not sure you can read then - the post is easy enough for any idiot to understand... ... What was that about keeping silent again?... Perhaps you should not have removed doubt !!! -
Incorrect. Mostly correct - I've never needed a CoR since I had my Yellow House Book. Prevuously to that - I needed a CoR every time I purchased (registered) a new Car or Motorcycle, or needed to renew my Driving Licence. I'm sure you will reply that 'the Yellow House Book is not accepted by the DLT'... but this is not the case, its only 'some' DLT's that do not accept a Yellow House Book as Proof of Address - thus, this aspect is purely dependent on ones location.

If they were a fool they wouldn't keep quiet. I've been in plenty of meetings where the quiet person is actually a fool - scared to say anything.... So perhaps a notch higher up than the completely stupid, who, as quoted by many, the latest of whom is Ricky Gervais: "When you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It's only painful & difficult for others. The same applies when you are stupid !!!"
