  1. Its called an AI detector - 100% chance I won't need to use it on your posts !!!
  2. Oh I don't know... They seem pretty accurate to me.....
  3. What would you recon as the likelihood >> 91% ????
  4. Hmmm.... another new account posting something potentially controversial and triggering...
  5. Realistically... terminated... But, I can see you are not realistic with your 'stay tall and back away slowly' comment - which doesn't work for children or against packs... So now you will comment that the 'terminated' option is an abhorrent solution, I'd agree... IMO - what is also abhorrent, is all these 'dog lovers' who make the problem worse and are unable to see that future generations, 100's of thousands of animals will suffer because the issue is not dealt with effectively now... Had this issue been dealt with 10 or 20 years ago, the mangey dogs you see pawing through rubbish bins for scraps will not have existed - no suffering. This is one of those issues where there is no 'right solution'... there is just the 'least worst' solution for the long term.... and that least worst solution is a horrible one - but it stops the stray dog issue.
  6. As you are one of the grade A1 trolls on this thread... your comment renders completely insignificant, even when attempting to pull pull of a Noel Coward impression 'dear fellow' - which just doesn't work for halfwitted bogans...
  7. I completely disagree (hence my comment) I pass through the Airports in Thailand approximately 16x per year - its a positive experience compared to the Airports in the UK. 4 hour immigration queues are not the norm at all - I challenge anyone to honestly comment that they have been stuck in an Airport Immigration Queue in Thailand for 4 hours... Agreed - but I'd argue to a lesser degree than our home countries. The risk of being involved in a violent confrontation here (i.e. getting mugged or into a fight) is less than that in many of our home countries. Additionally, the foreigners who do get into conflict here, usually bring it upon themselves. Irrelevant what 'you' like (I don't play anymore either)... The golf courses here are still a huge positive for many....
  8. A very very simple answer to that one... Its because of ticketing class of the seat you have purchased. Outbound - you have purchased a 'Economy Convenience' (30 kgs) Return - you have purchased a 'Economy Classic' (25 kgs) That was probably all that was available at the time, the cheaper 'Economy Classic' would usually sell out earlier. IF you wanted to... You could have purchased 'Economy Convenience' (30 kgs) on the return too.
  9. Same here.... most Thai's I know drink drive - this is one of the sweeping criticism I have of being here. I do disagree with your comment 'their country, their rules'... they have rules, they just don't abide by them and the DUI is enabled by the ineffectiveness of the policing. Its incredible that what you see as a positive, I see as a negative, yet you see negative aspects most everywhere else... An interesting world we live in !!!... Positives, as per thread title... plenty to go with, and not limited to the list below... - Food - Thailand has a wealth, quality and range of excellent cuisines and an accessible price point that makes it unbeatable (to took at home, deliver, or go out) - Restaurants - So many of them to choose from. - Cheap Delivery of pretty much any food you want. - Transport (in Bkk) - cheap transport is so readily available. - Beer - much much better than it used to be, a huge improvement - plenty of quality beer available here now (although its still better in the west). - Supermarkets (in Bangkok) i.e. Gourmet Market - we can get anything (though for a price). - Beaches (already mentioned) - Hotels / Resorts - an excellent range, far better priced than many other locations (i.e. Europe) - Airports - getting through an Airport here is so much less hassle then Europe (uk particularly - IMO, especially departure in the summer months). - Golf (if you're a golfer). - General non-confrontationalism of Thai's - people are generally more happy-go-lucky than in the West, makes for more chilled living (even on the roads surprisingly). - Cost of internet / mobile internet - extremely cheap compared to many areas. - Service - in the vast majority of examples I can think of, service is a very positive aspect here (unless going off-piste and a problem arises, in which case experiences vary). - Accommodation - much cheaper than the west (even in Bangkok when comparing capitial to capital) - Social life (been here a long time, so social life is excellent, but also was in the West and when I visit). - Crime / Safety - a lack of confrontational crime (compared to the west) makes Thailand a much safer place to be IMO (when not shooting your mouth off) - this is also somewhat area specific (risk of getting kicked in, in areas like Pattaya is higher).
  10. The very same reason I refuse to fly low cost carriers when plausible - there's just too much potential nonsense.
  11. As you would normally have a 20 kg baggage allowance with Thai Airways, IF you want to take carry on only, perhaps the sensible option is to pack for Plan A while allowing for Plan B. i.e. Pack what you want with the intention of 'carrying on'... But allow for the possibility of not being permitted due to size, weight... and be prepared to check your luggage in (don't pack valuables, or be prepared to have them in a second smaller carry on bag). In my experience Thai Airways are less neurotic about carry on limits - but I think it simply comes down to who is at the check-in counter... If someone wants to be difficult they could be.
  12. There are many positives here... They obviously vary by location.... there are also plenty of negative aspects to being here. I think anyone with healthily balanced attitudes can identify both positive and negative aspects of being in any country and any location within that country. For most people - there is a 'net positive' which is why we are here.
  13. A sad state of affairs... This is something I'd call a massive negative...
  14. Speaking of someone with poor eyesight, read what I wrote 1km from Nakhon Pathom in Bangkok. Just a few meters over the border into Bangkok, eh... So your claim of 'not having seen a foreigner in Bangkok in over 6 months' is more noteworthy... ... Total BS... unless of course you never leave your house or street....
  15. That might be the first time I've ever read anything of yours remotely clever... decent attempt.
  16. Well genius, Nakhon Pathom is not Bangkok.... but that point is somewhat moot. ... if you have left your home, moved around the area, gone to the local shops, super-maket etc - its inevitable that you'll see another foreigner.. passing on their motorcycle, in their car etc... unless you are house bound - in which case, my apologies.
  17. Agreed... Its quite possible his eye-sight is so poor he couldn't see them....
  18. Agree with this to an extent... plenty of area's in Bangkok without many Westerners... Going a few days Without seeing a western face, perhaps... unless one remains locked in their home However, the 6 month claim is funny.... as mentioned... it reeks of a Livingstone complex...
  19. Lol...oh it's preposterous 😄 Sorry... preposterous is a big word - it means 'it's silly'...
  20. While there are fewer foreigners in area's such as Taling chan... there are plenty there. I've been there plenty of times, I have friends living over there... I see other foreigners in the market there.... far less than other more central area's of Bangkok... Nevertheless... the implication of not seeing another foreigner for 6 months implies he's never left his street.
  21. I did spend two weeks here once and didn't see another Western face... ... I was in two-week quarantine (covid) after flying in. Otherwise, in over twenty years of living here I've been all over Thailand, and one thing is very clear, rarely a day goes by without seeing another Western face, no matter where I am. The whole concept that someone could live in a capital city and not see anyone beyond the nationality (race) of the host nation for over 6 months is preposterous... its completely and utter Bull shyite !!...
  22. To be fair to Bob, the hawker probably had a minor tantrum when he refused to buy anything. I've encountered similar situations myself. I've even just browsed market stalls and faced anger from Thai vendors: "Why you come? You look, you no buy." Many of us have experienced this negativity in heavily touristed areas. In such places, some Thais may have become jaded—familiarity breeds contempt, and it's likely some hold a general disregard towards foreigners. I believe most people understand that these experiences are not representative of Thailand as a whole. In my opinion, it's quite stupid to make sweeping generalisations of a whole nation based on individual or localised experiences. That said, in other contexts, a sweeping generalisation may be fitting... just not in the the case of bob's negativity.
  23. Hard to imagine that is possible unless you live at the end of a dead end Soi and never leave the area around the house. Thats the 'Livingstone complex'... When Westerners want to be the only ones... Its rather delusional... and in Bangkok, its impossible that someone does not see another Western face unless, as you mention they are a complete hermit.
  24. True - there are also other foreigners who complain a lot. Some are just outright negative characters who'll shoe-horn a negative out of a positive. Others discuss and complain about valid issues, many of those complaints and discussions mirror what the Thai's also find objectionable. Some on these forums are unable to distinguish a valid complaint / discussion with relentless and unwarranted Thai-bashing... then there is the 'this is place is perfect brigade' who won't hear a negative word said against Thailand. In between these extremes of opinion is healthy balance which may vary depending on location, time spent here, life out-look etc... you often get out what you put in. The opinions of some become easily tainted - the mistake some may make is allowing a couple of negative experiences tarnish being here. I complain about how authorities do very little towards safety here, particularly road safety - but that negative opinion of one facet of Thailand does not extend across the whole of Thailand - this is where you are being heavily criticised bob, you allow yourself to draw a generalised opinion based on the individual negative encounters and experiences while completely ignoring the positive aspects of life here. For most foreigners living here there is a 'net positive' - we recognise and live with Thailands faults, we also recognise faults in our home nations.... But all in all, we like it here and stay here because of this 'net positive'.... You on the other hand seem to be living here in a complete deficit of any enjoyment or positive experiences - either that, or you are so locked into your negative Thai rhetoric that you refuse to discuss any positives on this forum.
