Did they 'really' incinerate 20 tonnes of confiscated narcotics ???.... Or did they incinerate a few tonnes and a bit of 'other stuff' and redistributed the rest for resale ?... quite the money earner... Perhaps the publicity is to great to pull a fast one... but such news brings out the cynic in me !!...

Slippery highway causes bus to overturn, injuring 37 passengers
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
No, No, No !!!.... its so utterly pathetic that the real 'human blame' is always avoided and the blame is placed on an inanimate object - in this case slippery road... ... This pathetic face saving business Thailand so thoroughly enjoys is costing life after life after life... The cause of this accident was not the rain or a slippery road, it was the bus driver driving too fast for the conditions... as was mentioned here... Here... corrected that last quote: The accident happened when the 'driver' was driving too fast for the conditions and speeding down a hill at high speed, the drivers actions resulting in a loss of control and the bus skidded and flipped.- 31 replies

New rules for buying a motorcycle?

I think you misread it - bought it after showing the yellow book..... -
How much do you drink (if at all)

A bablefish will sort that out for you... -
I'd say the same... But in my younger days (20's) here I did get caught up in a relationship with a female who in hindsight was outrageously toxic - I think sometimes we need to experience this to identify it and avoid in future. It was incredible... a good day out could turn into an absolute nightmare in the blinking of an eye.

Ad revenue - people love to gossip and this 'non-event' ticks certain boxes that drum up attention. The manner in which the woman goes off at the foreigner implies she is clearly bonkers - I think most people would ignore her. As to the foreigner 'stealing the key'... thats what she said, but is she to be beleived given the insanity on display. Could the Op have pre-paid for his hotel stay, which is why he was holding the key ? Or, did he really try to pull a fast one - and never returned the keys from a previous stay and attempted to stay extra nights ? ------- IMO - a simple 'guess' as to what happened. - Op agreed and pre-paid a certain amount of nights. - Went to extend, no one at reception, so went out for his night out and returned to his room. - At this point the owner / female over-reacted. I've done similar in my younger days... a lot of places are (were) quite relaxed... we'd book a few days and stay longer, paying the extra when we happened to see someone at the reception... these places were fairly chilled low-key back-packer type places.... Of course, given the madness we see in Thailand - its entirely possible the story is exactly as reported - but I'm naturally suspicious of these stories when the account of only one side is reported.

New rules for buying a motorcycle?

Looks legit.. . Tuesday afternoon - Op wrote that he couldn't purchase a motorbike as they wanted so much documentation. Weds evening - Op posted that he used his yellow book... thus, Op has clearly gone back to a shop the following day with his Yellow House Book and secured a purchase. Not a tricky one to work out.... defo not the appearance of a fake thread, although I understand the suspicious as this forum seems now to be getting full of them... .... or we've had a massive influx of trollish muppets (Which arrangement will provide you more sex in Thailand? / Are full body massages worth the money? / How do you deal with connotations and assumptions you're a sex tourist?_ -
New rules for buying a motorcycle?

Yes. And it was anything but straight forward! bob. To place your comment within a better context... .... Bob, you make most things complicated.... for what is a simple every day occurrence for most of us turns into an issue for you. The Op has already responded that all he had to do was provide his Yellow House Book - thats it. -
They are stray... ergo - there is no owner who could, or would take responsibility. Not only this reason, but there are many reasons why dogs either need to be 'collared' and owned, whereby an owner takes responsibility for their animal, or, they are considered stray and removed (by whatever means) from area's where they can cause damage or harm. People may not like the idea of 'removing stray dogs' - but someone is feeding them and this creates greater opportunity for them to breed and exacerbate existing problems.

Per the op it appears unreliable Per the Op... You are wrong !!.. He showed his Yellow House Book as proof of address, as this is all thats required - no visas, nothing else is required. -

Per the op it appears unreliable Per the op - for some reason he's being given the run around with a request for a lot of completely unnecessary documentation. Per many others, myself included... the Yellow Hose Book works exactly as it should as Proof of Address (Residence) when registering a vehicle in your own name - No issues whatsoever with my last couple of bikes and cars. -

Cobblers. bob. You're wrong Bob... it really is a very straight forward process.... Have you ever even bought a car or motorcycle in your own name ????? -

Agree... its incredibly easy, however, visa type is irrelevant - You can own a vehicle with any visa - I don't recall having to show my visa when purchasing cars of bikes... But I did have to show ID, that was just for the Proof of Sale. Registering the Visa in your name is where the Proof of Address comes into it... There is sometimes an overlap between being able to obtain proof of address and which visa you are holding. -

A & B are on my pink card and driving license. If you still need to confirm the address, it doesn’t matter where to go - directly to the dealer or to the DLT. Your Driving License is not considered Proof of Address for the purposes of purchasing a vehicle. Neither is your Pink ID... But, as you have a Pink ID, you will also have a Yellow House Book, and that is accepted as Proof of Address when registering your vehicle at the DLT (a dealership should also accept the Yellow House Book as Proof of Address) -

A dealer isn't going to let you take the bike out of the showroom without the paper work being put in for it to be registered - they would be nuts to just let you walk out without the registration process started. Guess they are nuts then - because thats exactly what I did... (both cars and bikes). I've dropped a deposit and copy of my ID (Passport). Picked up the car / or bike, leaving the outstanding balance. Received the 'insurance' in my name (as per ID - First year Free insurance deal) I've then driven or ridden away with Sale Documents (which include chassis number etc). The dealer knew I'd register the bike / car myself. I then visited DLT at my convenience - showing proof of address (Affirmation of Address from Embassy or later on my Yellow House Book and ID (Passport ID Page). I then selected the Registration Number (chose a couple in preference just in case one had already been taken etc). At another desk was then given a stamped slip of paper (with the new reg number) I returned the Slip of Paper to the dealership who then call you when the plates are ready (which can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks). If leaving the dealer to go through the registration process themselves, they can often take months which is why I just do it myself. ------ One dealer was a bit of a headache initially - they tried to tell me I couldn't register the car in my own name without a work permit, so I should put it in my Wife's name as that would be easier. I had to tell them to just get the car ready on time and I'll pick it up and deal with the registration process myself - they were reluctant as I don't think they understood the process for a foreigner - a manager got involved he also wasn't sure, but I assured him I've done this 'my way' several times and work permit is not required, I just show proof of address to the DLT which is sufficient for registration of the vehicle in my name. I suspect they are just concerned that they may get some 'flack' from a customer who is unable to register a vehicle in their own name for whatever reason so attempt to 'fit in with legacy regulations' to avoid possible hassle - but these are not rules. -
WTF? WTF exactly - Poor child... what an abominable family environment to grow up in... The mother needs to be arrested on charges of assault... The rapist uncle on the other hand simply needs to be shot, removed from human existence, he's proven himself subhuman and should be treated as such - just removed in the cheapest possible way (bullet to the head).

Read the OP, it's all there! Of course.... because, the Op perfectly translated the what the woman was screaming ad verbatim... colourful language, insults, soil and dirt... Sometimes your 'reliance' on telling people to 'read the Op' is boresome... In these fora the Op often raises more unknowns than it deals with.... In this case the Op is most certainly not a translation of what the woman was screaming.

New rules for buying a motorcycle?
richard_smith237 replied to anyone's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
By going to the DLT & doing it yourself. You’ll still need one of… A) Certificate Of Address (from immigration) B) Affirmation Of Address (from Embassy) C) Work Permit (only if it contains your address) D) Yellow House Book (registered to you) -
New rules for buying a motorcycle?

It’s an ‘legacy request’ from the dealer back when an address was listed in the WP & they could use a copy of your WP as a proof of address when registering the vehicle in your name. These days work permits do not contain your address - so the request is moot, but probably on a list of required documents at a dealership that’s never been updated. I’ve had disagreements with dealers in the past who want so many documents - as soon as I tell them I’ll be registering the vehicle myself, they back down. -
I assume you mean 2-4k Baht and not GBP £. If you did mean £2000 - then, well, that’s rather foolish…. Actually, it’s outright idiotic.
-
It’s ok if you pay up when you get the Driving / MC licence (not before)… It’s illegal BS or a scam if they tell you that you don’t need to attend a DLT. it’s all easy enough to do this yourself - get the required documents & just do it yourself… very easy for a newbie…

If a Moto-taxi driver flipped a group of Russians the bird & they took matters to the extreme & beat him up…. The response would be ??? These thugs will be peddling their rip-off-rides from the same area within weeks, or at the very least move 50m down the road. The announcement has been made, the police have done their job. Nothing more to see here… back to normal.

'Top office' - that implies one Brand (i.e. Honda or Yamaha etc)... have you tried other brands, or other dealerships under different ownership ? (dealerships here operate like franchises, and a d!ck higher up may enjoy being a little neurotic and making things difficult). -

Only, relevant to the dealership IF they are going to register your vehicle for you (most do). If registering yourself, then this information is irrelevant to the dealership. Only, relevant to the dealership IF they are going to register your vehicle for you (most do). If registering yourself, then this information is irrelevant to the dealership. Only, relevant to the dealership IF they are going to register your vehicle for you (most do). If registering yourself, then this information is irrelevant to the dealership. Completely irrelevant to the process (nothing to do with the registration process). 100% irrelevant. There is something very strange going on - the dealerships seem to be adding completely unnecessary layers of their own bureaucracy. All of the above is not a new rule, not a new legal regulation - but, the dealers are being difficult for some reason. Is this just one 'brand' or one 'group of the same dealership' ??... Have you tried the same with different manufacturers ? -
New rules for buying a motorcycle?
richard_smith237 replied to anyone's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
It is one of the benifits... and has nothing to do with the dealership. When I have purchased vehicles (Cars and Motorcycles) the dealer has asked for a work permit... No have. The dealer has then asked for proof of address... No have... I then tell them I will deal with the registration process myself - thats my business as I don't want to wait for them, I also want to have the option to chose my own number. In short - a dealer asking for proof of anything, other than payment (deposit - then full balance when picking up the vehicle) is overstepping the bounds of making a purchase. Thats why they ask for the proof of address / work permit documents etc... But realistically, thats not need as you can easily register the vehicle yourself if you so wish - you'll then need those documents. I'll go through your list below in the next comment.
