We had to pick up our maid from the clink once.... they'd been rounded up on Bang Bon, which apparently is where all the Burmese labourers go on their days off, the police know it too, so it turns into a game of cat and mouse... the maid was outside of 'the area of permission' (as per her migrant labourer work permit). It cost me 2000 baht to get her released from a room, about 50 Burmese folk packed in like sardines. A nice earner for the Police when the employers turn up to 'free their staff'...

Why would you concentrate on the amount of bottles? You still only have one glass, right? Its possibly related to 'splitting the bill'... some are more frugal and may only want to pay for exactly what they had - thats the only think I can think of when it comes to 'keeping track of bottles'... As per the excellent responses from digbeth and steve187 (particularly with the linked thread). IF the 'rental company' replied with 1st Class Insurance, then the car is not covered for rental. 1st Class Insurance is fully comprehensive insurance for private vehicles. Thus: Protect yourself and go with a known company or a company who can offer the correct 'Type 120 rental insurance' (as per the linked thread above).

The only spin to add here Bob, is that you're blinded to such a degree by your own negative bias that you suck the oxygen out of every single encounter that has the potentail not to be negative. And while no generalisation is true, some of your comments are partially true, but only for a minority of Thai's, not the sweeping generalisations you unintelligently fall into... The flaw in nearly every comment you make is relying on bias and upscaling these experiences to tar a whole nation.. ... Do some Thai's dislike foreigners ?... of course. ... It absolutely is an anti foreigner campaign, Bangkok ready is spot on! They hate us with a passion. Please don't include me in the 'us' that you use... I don't want to be associated with those of a similar mentality to yours, bob... Your generalisation that 'They [Thai's] hate us with a passion' is as insulting as it is outright stupid. The reality is that like everyone else, Thai's are as equally indifferent to us foreginers as they are each other until we pop up on their radar - then we are treated according to our behavior on our individual merit. Some sources like to dramatise - thats the medial all over the world. In general, the media demonises everything and everyone... your are blind if you cant see that. But, you are demonising all Thai's with general accusations... that really is particularly dumb. Quite likely yes - look at the news coming from Spain at the moment - very anti foreigner.

I think a lot of that has been caused more so by the prevalence of 'social media' targeting a specific nationalistic nerve... ... I wouldn't suggest there are 'multiple strong anti-foreigner campaigns'... but I would agree that a handful of foreigners have behave so poorly, there has been some publicised black-lash and outpourings of disdain on social media and national media which we may consider edging towards nationalism (anti-farangism if you want) until we also compare to the similar levels of outrage Thai's would levy at other Thai's for similar behavior... (just look at the media attention the Dr who was killed crossing the road received).

Completely agree... not only this, but feeding encourages more dogs, more competition, more aggression - more problems. Either dogs are owned (with a collar showing the owner) and they must be kept in secured property not free to roam around... (or the owner is fined), or they are removed. As much as dog-lovers may hate this idea - this is the only way to ensure streets and beaches etc are safe. Absolutely agree... How many kids are bitten, people riding bikes, jogging, motorcycle accidents caused etc..

You sound like a particularly unreasonable person. You have no right to ask the owners of a friendly dog in a restaurant to take their dog away. I wish the owner had told all 189 of you to bugger off. Perhaps I was unreasonable... But I don't really care about being reasonable when it comes to the safety of children. It was a very casual beach restaurant, the kids were playing near our table and the owners dog approached and getting too close for my comfort - my concern was one of the kids getting bitten, as they were jumping around and playing. Would the owner have taken responsibility for a child being bitten ?.... perhaps an unlikely possibility, the dog did appear to have a gentle nature, however, why would I take that risk ? - if thats unreasonable, then so be it.

There is a lot that has progressed.... Plenty that has not due to corruption etc, as highlighted. But, in focusing only on the negative, you have kneecapped your own ability to see the positive - hence the common negative theme in your threads.

Bob seems to generalise based on his own issues... There's a touch of reality in some of the points he makes, Thailand has changed, every country has, its called progression, development etc... we have also changed, its called aging, maturing... for the most of use here an element of 'rose tinted glasses' is replaced with realism... But... people such as Bob have issues with everything. In another recent thread (about registering a vehicle), Bob implied that authorities want to make such processes as difficult as possible for Foreigners, whereas others (myself included) found such processes incredibly simple. The crux of Bobs posts come down to attitude, it would appear that all of the issues bob encounters are completely self inflicted and he's also extremely thin-skinned to any perceived sleight by a Thai, while has the skin of a rhino when dealing with some of the flack he receives on this forum - quite the enigma is Bob... apperntly a complete train wreck, nevertheless an enigma, a likeable one.

I'd suggest its a stronger indication of total distrust in those investigating the crime... (as per Burma Bill's and AgMech Cowboy's comments).
