  1. Completely agree... not only this, but feeding encourages more dogs, more competition, more aggression - more problems. Either dogs are owned (with a collar showing the owner) and they must be kept in secured property not free to roam around... (or the owner is fined), or they are removed. As much as dog-lovers may hate this idea - this is the only way to ensure streets and beaches etc are safe. Absolutely agree... How many kids are bitten, people riding bikes, jogging, motorcycle accidents caused etc..
  2. You sound like a particularly unreasonable person. You have no right to ask the owners of a friendly dog in a restaurant to take their dog away. I wish the owner had told all 189 of you to bugger off. Perhaps I was unreasonable... But I don't really care about being reasonable when it comes to the safety of children. It was a very casual beach restaurant, the kids were playing near our table and the owners dog approached and getting too close for my comfort - my concern was one of the kids getting bitten, as they were jumping around and playing. Would the owner have taken responsibility for a child being bitten ?.... perhaps an unlikely possibility, the dog did appear to have a gentle nature, however, why would I take that risk ? - if thats unreasonable, then so be it.
  3. There is a lot that has progressed.... Plenty that has not due to corruption etc, as highlighted. But, in focusing only on the negative, you have kneecapped your own ability to see the positive - hence the common negative theme in your threads.
  4. The concept that Bob and others hold, suggesting that conditions are deteriorating, is termed 'Declinism' and represents a psychological bias. This bias is closely related to 'loss aversion,' where individuals disproportionately focus on current negative aspects while their memory tends to filter out adverse experiences from the past—resulting in cognitive distortion. In this example (Op), Bob exhibits a pronounced instance of cognitive distortion concerning the past while simultaneously emphasising a degree of declinism regarding the present. The issue of course, in all of Bob's threads - he is simply unable to recognise this in himself.
  5. Bob seems to generalise based on his own issues... There's a touch of reality in some of the points he makes, Thailand has changed, every country has, its called progression, development etc... we have also changed, its called aging, maturing... for the most of use here an element of 'rose tinted glasses' is replaced with realism... But... people such as Bob have issues with everything. In another recent thread (about registering a vehicle), Bob implied that authorities want to make such processes as difficult as possible for Foreigners, whereas others (myself included) found such processes incredibly simple. The crux of Bobs posts come down to attitude, it would appear that all of the issues bob encounters are completely self inflicted and he's also extremely thin-skinned to any perceived sleight by a Thai, while has the skin of a rhino when dealing with some of the flack he receives on this forum - quite the enigma is Bob... apperntly a complete train wreck, nevertheless an enigma, a likeable one.
  6. I'd suggest its a stronger indication of total distrust in those investigating the crime... (as per Burma Bill's and AgMech Cowboy's comments).
  7. As horrific as it is... this is what some people are left resorting to taking matters into their own hands as authorities often do nothing in response to complaints about aggressive animals. In the past, I've been on too many beaches in Thailand with aggressive dogs and have concern for my son's safety and end up leaving. I've also been at restaurants where dog were around and we had to get the staff to shoo the dogs away - they often start to get aggressive when competing for the possibility of food scraps... At one restaurant we had a group of young kids playing and the owners dog was nearby - I asked the owner to take the dog away, but she didn't want to until I told her the whole table (of about 16 people) would leave if they didn't... The dog may have been friendly, but as the kids were playing and running around in the sand, the dog was attracted to the commotion - I could easily perceive a situation where one of the kids is bitten.
  8. YAWN... Double yawn... You destroy every thread with your pedanticism.... Just get on with the topic instead of nitpicking holes in peoples comments.... Whether the comment was irony, or sarcasm is completely irrelevant to the topic... Yet your pathetic weaslly nit-picking brings an unnecessary toxicity to so many threads... As just mentioned in another thread - have you any interest in the topic itself, or do you just troll through topics looking for an error to pick-apart ??? - question is rhetorical - we know the answer.
  9. Yup... I thought it was illegal for vehicles to park on the side of the road like this... don't they need to exit the highway to a safer area to rest ?... So many similar incidents. I don't know if Thai's have an affinity for hitting stationary objects and vehicles, or if there are simply a lot more of them on the roads in the first place to be hit.... In the photo, it also appears that due to its width the lorry was parked 'partially' into the first lane.
  10. The underlying issue is clearly that no dogs should be off the leash in a public area if they are likely to be aggressive. Penalties for for someones dog attacking another animal or person should be severe enough and applied consistently enough for there to be sufficient deterrent. Additionally, dogs should either be collared (with the owners details), or if without a collar, considered stray and removed from the area. Too many people, children, cyclists, runners etc are getting bitten by dogs in public areas - its a public health hazard. In this example - if an owner deliberately releases their dogs to 'threaten' someone in a public area it should be considered assault with consequent severe fines and the animals removed from the owners possession as they have proven they are not responsible owners.
  11. Baht and Sold has a minimal audience of a few westerners - its not really maximising exposure at all. Put the Motorcycle up on FaceBook Market Place - that will ensure the most exposure. Write the add in both English and Thai. You will get a lot of time wasters most commonly asking "Is it still available?" which is an automatic response people can click on - but amongst the time wasters will be genuine parties.
  12. ... at least its better than the tosh the latest trollish bore Mekmong MICK is serving up... Its also understandable that some prefer to keep track of how much they've been drinking - 4 glasses or 7 etc... when the staff are constantly topping it becomes difficult to tell - especially when they start adding ice too. But, as others have mentioned - its ingrained in the staff and we just have to roll with it. I much prefer this way, rather than having to queue up at a bar for 10 mins just to get a beer (as in the UK).
  13. Noo... never !!!... Here's my attempt !!...
  14. Time to get those reading specks upgraded !!.... chaRge !! Fine, if you only plan on hanging around the area and not going anywhere else. Suppose you could rent for further journeys. Nice... Thailand is just too hot for a convertible... that said, its also too hot for a motorcycle if we are thinking comfort. Asking him if he's feeling frisky ??
  15. A few years back I was sat in a WineConnection at Lunch time with my Wife and Son and watched a rather strange encounter unfold... A older Western gent, perhaps in his 70's... wearing trousers (slacks), tucked in long sleeve shirt, dickie-bow... having a silent dinner with a 20 something Thai Female... It was an odd dynamic, I was being nosey, but also thinking 'good on you fella - keep having fun'.... I only caught the tail end of their encounter inside the restaurant after which they walked out... In front of the shop they turned to face each other, apparently at a 'juncture' of what to do next... The old fella puts his hands by his side, turns his hands outwards, and kind of waddles like a penguin up to the girl... he leans forwards and plants a peck on her cheek... she seems to stand there stunned - after a few awkward moments, 1m apart, he waves his hand as if to say bye... and slowly walks away... she still seems stunned, and just walks away... .... I think the old fella thought he was going on a legit date - so didn't know what to suggest next. .... I think the young girl thought she had an afternoon's income lined up - then didn't know what the guy wanted. After reading this thread, I think the above mentioned chappy may very well have been GammaGlobulin...
  16. You're basing this suggestion on the evidence of this thread alone... or the overwhelming mass of evidence provided in pretty much every other topic started by the Op ?
  17. That won't stop the forums favourite pendant popping up, telling us the Op mentioned nothing of tyre tread, over inflated tyres, or asking for a link and telling us to prove it [our observations !!]...
  18. We need a photo of an MG-EV and the statement that ICE vehicles catch fire more often than EV's... If only someone on the forum had such information to provide us with...
  19. How thrifty ??? Plenty of bikes for sale on FaceBook market place. Alternatively - Decathlon... he'll be able to get a decent bike for about 8000 baht - but, again, how thrifty...
  20. A freak icy-spell.... Or it rained washing-up-liquid...
  21. Yup... and its an almost certainty that the busses tyres had no tread, were over inflated and not fit for use... ( And before some pedant jumps up and states that the Op never stated anything about the tyres etc... that was just a guess of course, but one based on seeing such vehicles on the roads here on a daily basis... How can I tell the inflation just by looking at the tyre asks another pedant ?... obviously I can't... but I know enough peoples whose tyres have been well over inflated after a service etc to know that over-inflation is not and uncommon thing here.
  22. This list is fundamentally flawed: The Top International Schools in Thailand are not on that list at all.. - Bangkok Patana - Harrow - ISB All the other schools listed I'd consider a 'tier' below the above mentioned three - I'm not stating that the listed schools are bad, they are mostly good schools, some very good - just not as good as the top three. NIST mentioned, also very good. Bangkok Prep not mentioned, a very good school Shrewsbury, not mentioned, also up there. Additionally - St Andrews was mentioned, but the Campus on Sukhumvit 71 is head and shoulders above the bearing campus (not mentioned) and the Green Valley Campus.
  23. Is the tourist wrong ??? - we only have the account of the owner, and she seems just a tad 'batshyite-crazy'... In the 'haste' to get a report out there we rarely get both sides of story, instead an a source rushes to hit the media as quickly as possible... speed is all that matters to them, not accuracy... As stated in the article... No one was actually interested in what he had to say then ?
  24. The Pink ID / Yellow House Book thingy is an odd one... essentially they're they same information. At the DLT for the Driving License, I don't recall them being that bothered about the Yellow House Book, but took copies of the Pink ID... Whereas at the DLT when registering vehicles they wanted the Yellow House Book... I've long since given up trying to figure out Thailand and the requirements - I've often attempted a process expecting a bureaucratic nightmare only to find efficient simplicity, conversely, I've often attempt to quickly carry out a process which for inexplicable reasons snowballs into bureaucratic marathon - without rhyme or reason it often depends upon the specific person we are dealing with at the time. Obtaining the legal Marriage documentation for example: Nipped down to the local Amphur with the Wife, expecting a simple process (had all the documentation), and faced a complete 'no-go' - recognising the officer was being particularly awkward we nipped to the next Amphur office and were in and out in the blinking of an eye.... Usually though - the DLT is one of the more consistent places to carry out dealings.... but as far as individual businesses go, they'll make up their own rules because they can, or simply give a 'cannot' because they just don't know. ... the 'cannot' is a lot like the 'no-hab' !!... in recent attempt to purchase an item at HomePro I was told 'no-hab' by the staff after showing her the Photo of the item on the HomePro web-page... completely unconvinced, I went walk about and found the exact item I was looking for.... ... I suspect the case is similar with the Op... he wanted to do something and encountered the 'cannot'... seems like too much effort response (from the staff)... later on going back he probably encountered someone more forthcoming with their work ethic.
