  1. You could try using a VPN and watching the Euros on UK BBC iPlayer and ITVx (which are UK terrestrial TV channels - streamed). BUT..... I tried that and the VPN (Express) which is usually fast enough to stream through has been slow for the past month or so making this a non viable option. I ended up purchasing BeeSport which was relatively inexpensive (US$25) - 900 Baht for a month - which given the reliability I find worth it rather than messing around trying to save a few 'beers' and getting frustrated...
  2. They could have announced the driver of the car was a foreigner - they'd have people crawling out of the woodwork claiming ownership of the buffalo and claiming compensation for the loss !!!
  3. Agree... But I don't see the 'cultural compatibility' an issue.. I see that being of a similar level of intelligence, education, socio-economic background as being the key towards mutual respect and longevity of a relationship... I couldn't date an uneducated woman with no protects in the UK as much as I couldn't date one here - there's just no respect... I'm sure that will upset some, but we each find what we are attracted to.
  4. More versatile than a car ????... erm.. How exactly ? If I lived on a tiny Island I might consider one (if cars were not allowed) - I can see their versatility there, but then a quad bike would be better IMO. I saw a Western family in Trat on one once (Man, Woman, 5 young blond kids) - riding at about 40kmh on the main road while all traffic was whizzing past at 80-90 kmh... Completely lethal things.
  5. Irrelevant. What if someone on an unisured electric bike, tricycle hits a person and injures them. Who pays. Valid point... What if a cyclist hits someone and injures them, who pays ? Thats why I have full insurance medical insurance here - because I can't rely on everyone else to conform to the same regulations we have in the West, especially when those regulations are a huge grey area here and so many vehicles which should be insured aren't (while driving, I've been hit by taxi's twice - neither had insurance / neither driver could show a license !!). The uninsured guy on the 'mobility scooter' is just the tip of the iceberg - BUT... IF the Mobility Scooter could be registered and insured, I'm sure most Westerners would go for that... Are these vehicles any slower than the food selling samlor vendors or the wheeled food cart vendors (or the 'broom vendor) walking around in traffic ???
  6. Essentially the same as a regular motorcycle with more front end grip and breaking... thats about it - it'll tip over just like any other motorcycle will. I'm not sure its the 'stability' the Op wants he seems to be looking more at this sort of thing... Where's the catch.. (looks and style is about all - but it has the convenience if you can get past that). [I think these are the one the Op has been seeing in Thailand] https://www.loboebike.com/high-performance-electric-tricycle-cargo-electric-bike-3-wheels-tricycles-product/ Is this the sort of thing you mean Simon ?
  7. Seems like the solution - but he's already dealt with that point...
  8. No... it just makes you a Jude Law fanboy !!!
  9. Then one of these is the bo!!ox... But, you're probably more likely to be looking at something such as this....
  10. Having had numerous maids and workmen in my house over the years I've encountered first hand the true extent of stupidity of some people... I mean fundamentally stupid... (can't unlock a double locked door, doesn't know how to put on and take off a seatbelt etc... things that have truly shocked me).... Stupid may be an unfair word, but I mean it in the perspective that some people just really have no idea at all. It is these people who need protecting, it is the job of the police to protect them. Just because they are 'below' the perceived status of the Policemen is no excuse not to concern themselves their plight. Scamming is rife in Thailand... (its rife everywhere these days) but in Thailand its just 'all around us' which should have made the victims more cautious, however, we go back to the above comment about being 'fundamentally stupid'... ... meanwhile the Police are fundamentally lazy and need the 'fire put up em' to do something to help out the people they are employed to be protecting. Another possibility to this: The BiB did follow up, recovered the money and kept it - I wouldn't put that past the BiB here, either !!!....
  11. If the driver knew that the station attendant was holding on to the truck, but acted recklessly regarding his safety, IMO that would be an assault. Would it ?? Running with this (a little off topic for a moment)... If someone tries to get into my Wife's car at the lights frightens her and she drives off... the nutter falls over and hurts themself, thats assault ?? (I know this case in the report is different).
  12. Then the trike version of this could be the ticket !!
  13. You're not one of those guys who tell foreigners that they need a work permit to cut their lawn and paint their house, no ?
  14. Sounds good! What about the various e-trikes advertised on Shopee and Lazada from China. They claim 1,000W 48v battery, perhaps 50km range between charges etc. Cost about 15,000 baht. Are they cr*p? BTW, I'm not 'disabled' yet, but just planning ahead. I know that my wonky foot will get worse in the future, so I'm trying to cost out an e-trike, reliability etc etc. @scubascuba3, Yes, I could buy a Thai 'salang',but well... it's not my style! I do have standards to keep up don't you know ol' chap 🙂 IF I'm not mistaken (could well be) - I think the anything 500w and less is road legal. Anything higher than 500w needs to be registered (with a license plate). Additionally, anything considered a disability vehicle can ride on the road without being registered (but I think it still has to fall within the 500w limit). A lot of those 'mobility trikes' are quite powerful and do perhaps need to be registered and taxed, which then means insured at least with the basic Por-ror-bor government cover. I was looking at a scooter... Velocifero Mad - they are 2000w and surely not road legal... (but could be operated in that grey area on the sub-sois where no rules seem to ever exist).
  15. That guy screamed through a cross roads in an area already known for accidents. Right of way was heavily debatable... any car or motorcycle riding in the same manner would have been sideswiped/ Fault was heavily debated at the time - nevertheless, the reckless manner in which the man in on the trike rode was not in doubt. In that thread, the legality of a 'trike' was also discussed - I think whole legality thing is a grey area (more on that in another comment).
  16. Yup... OK, throw the book at him.... But surely the Petrol Station employee was injured through his own actions (heroism or stupidity - depends on perspective)... He tried to stop a 150 hp vehicle with body strength... not really the fault of the (criminal) driver, is it ?... or is it ?... Would it also be the fault of the criminal driver if another vehicle ran a red light and hit him? Also, I'm not sure what deception was involved in the theft... its just outright theft. Or.. is receiving the fuel before paying and then not paying considered 'deception'... which is perhaps why in many cases (in the US and growing in the UK) we have to put our card in the petrol pump before drawing fuel.... Or in some cases, pay with 'digitial payment' - i.e. apple pay (which of course, makes the whole mobile phone usage at petrol stations questionable).
  17. Good question and you are certainly correct it will open up a GIANT "can 'o wormz" I am sure the powerz-that-b here haven't even contemplated how the changes in the marriage laws between sexes will work immigration visa/extension wise right now it's; foreign male/thai female, foreigner banks 400K foreign female/thai male, foreigner banks nothing How the other permutations will parse out I guess that remains to be seen 🙂 It doesn't 'need' to be a can of worms... They could just 'open up' the same laws & requirements to all married couples that exist between Foreign Females married to Thai Males. That would be too easy, too giving... I can imagine that 'Anutin' and his cronies arguing.... "No way, we can't have these foreign males coming in a getting citizenship by marrying the a bit of strumpet from Soi 6"... So... my guess is no... Nothing will change in the Laws at all... Foreign Females marrying Thai Males continues to fit within the Thai Patriarchial agenda, nothing else does.
  18. There's potentially a legal a 'door opener' here... - Western Women Married to Thai Men have a faster track to Citizenship. - Western Men Married to Thai Women have a very difficult (sometimes impossible) track to Citizenship. - Could 'Western Men married to Thai Men' also have a fast track to citizenship ? - Could 'Western Women married to Thai Women' also have a fast track to citizenship ? Obviously the Government doesn't like to make things easy for anything other than the Thai Patriarchy, so I very much doubt it... but...
  19. A couple of other posters have also pointed out that their is not wording of any restriction on other license their license. I suspect the DLT have realised the flaw in that wording and it no longer exists in the newer licenses... I'll find out when I renew mine again in a couple of years. What does strike me as extremely odd is that some DLT's (i.e. Chonburi) will not accept the Yellow House Book as proof of address when applying / renewing a licence.
  20. To be fair - it was 2020 when I last attempted to get hold of quality tomatoes to make the base sauce for a butter chicken.... I tried villa and gourmet markets, but even visibly the offering was poor. I hardly do any shopping anyway - Wife gets most of the groceries from Tops... Its not a big issue for me, but its just something I've noticed... the Tomatoes here are not really very good (IMO of course). Neither are the strawberries etc.... conversely, mangoes and pineapples are amazing !
  21. Its actually a valid question... I've struggled to find decent tomatoes here.... Thats not the 'Thai-bash' you seem to imply and defend against, its just an observation - sometimes there's nothing more to it than that.
  22. The Honda Jazz didn't appear to be speeding or travelling recklessly quick - however, it was clearly too close to the left hand-side of the road. Given the position of the wheels on the Jazz it looks like a combination of impact and the 'wheel walking' up the side of the silver car which cause the Jazz to flip so easily. My Wife managed the same thing in an A-Class Merc at less than 10kmh... she'd just slowly turned into a very narrow soi and had to swerve to avoid a motorcycle, clipping another vehicle and 'tipping her car on its side'... we could see the 'tyre marks' on the side of the car she'd clipped.
  23. Where... speed is somewhat irrelevant, as much fun as an EV may be (torque)... But.. back to where ?.... in Bangkok, where do you get your BYD serviced each year (or whatever)... I see a lot of BYD on the road and wonder if any existing service centres are not going to be completely overwhelmed in a few months... Thus: honest question - Is your BYD in Chiang Rai (assumption from your username) easy to get serviced ?
  24. There is an element of this which concerns me... I'm not so sure we (the global community) have fully evaluated the 'Battery' conundrum, even with future development, vs carbon capture and hydrogen tech... I for one am not convinced batteries are the way forwards - though I do like the torque of an EV.
  25. You have access to a solution - but you are so intent on taking your approach to resolution that you are blind to Grab's 'non-human' approach, however flawed that may be.....
