  1. I feared it. Now I know it. Knowledge is closure.
  2. Go slim fit… or… as you mentioned, tailored <deleted>s are inexpensive here… … but really, aren’t there any malls near you ? Thailands kind of the slim fit capital of the world !!!……
  3. I’d start a thread about it then reply to my own inane nonsense…. (apologies, I keep making the mistake of opening your threads without first checking who the author is)…. ????
  4. Well said Why ?… The Op encountered an issue which was handled in a manner some (many) of us may find somewhat stereotypical of those who lack professionalism and you agree with the ‘it never happened to me mate, must be you’ response… … not “well said” at all…. quite the opposite and rather myopic if we’re are to reflect on many examples of the ‘withdraw into the shell’ manner avoidance of responsibility & accountability we often encounter here in Thailand & as described by the Op. … that’s not to suggest Thailand is bad, Thai people are bad or any of the hyperbole some may wish to throw out there in some form of distorted defence… but things go wrong & the response here is often wholly juvenile.
  5. Quoted are some rather ‘fruitcake’ examples of people blaming someone who’s only error is to air their encounter… The ops encounter is extremely relatable and is readily understood by anyone with any exposure to the ‘way things work’ here.
  6. Of course, why not... in fields etc... at 8 years old my son was going 80kmh down a mountain side, thats not much different from a dirt bike in a field.... But... in Traffic is a very very different matter.... having natural full control of motorcycle is only part of the equation when riding on the road...
  7. Did you teach your 9 year old to ride a motorcycle on Thailands roads ??? Your pussification argument avoids any common sense or sense of responsible parenting.... As someone who both drives and rides here in Thailand, allowing my son on the back of my motorcycle is a hard no, let alone being given permission to ride when he is of age. It's a simple decision from a life expectancy perspective....
  8. Depends on: - Location - Climate - Purpose - With whom (family or alone) - Cost vs quality (value) - Transport option (if driving etc) The decision always involves multiple factors. I look for a different type of hotel if beaching it up with the family (nice room, large size, pool etc) than if partying it up on an away football trip with the boys (cheap room with AC).
  9. Which makes the dual pricing based on nationality somewhat Xenophobic and extremely clumsy. IF Thailand dual-charged based on residency that would bring it more in line with the practices of the rest of the developed world.
  10. Completely agree… I’m quite entertained with the irony presented by the Op highlighting something is dumb for the dumbest of reasons !!!
  11. I’m not so sure about that (that you haven’t heard so much about it this year)… barely a day had gone by without this being a news issue (Kuwaitis & men of Middle East origin street racing their rented motorcycles en masse).
  12. Indeed… this could be a horrific situation where a family are separated. I would hope Thailand (all countries) are sympathetic to such issues, but sadly there is usually a monochromatic response.
  13. A number of harsh voiced from some who’ve forgotten their humanity. After the war in Iraq then the Daesh insurgency I can hardly find criticism with anyone wanting to escape such horror…. While Iraq & particularly the North (Kurdistan region) is much safer than it was a few years ago it’s still quite a dangerous place. Cases such as this really should have be offered assistance & asylum until a return to the homeland was sufficiently safe, which of course an argument could be made that since the dissolution of the Daesh Iraq now is (relatively compared to 6 years ago).
  14. So many foreigners ‘go native’…. … for me it’s 100% helmet whenever on a bike on any road anywhere… & full face when going further than ‘nipping to the 7-11…. I’m less sympathetic towards foreigners who’ve caused themselves harm through not wearing a helmet for they know better, whereas Thai’s have been let down by authorities (road safety education & enforcement).
  15. I kind of agree with rbkk….. most would want free internet, his is a fair assumption. I recall watching the Euros on a Qatar Airways flight… awesome time killer until in Indian air space where the service is interrupted. The vast majority of flights these days see me using my iPad & watching downloaded series & movies…. Free, fast reliable and uninterrupted Internet would be a nice addition (usually is in business class but I don’t fly that all the time). it’s all about the best way to kill time on a flight… The best I’ve found is flat-bed & a sleeping tablet… but I don’t get that luxury all the time.
  16. We rhymed about a ‘young lady from Ealing’….. before our nursery teacher was fired !!!! ????
  17. From the linked article <<The absence of a helmet exacerbated the severity of his injuries, particularly the severe brain trauma he sustained on impact.>> Tragic, but what can you say when he wasn’t even wearing a helmet ??
  18. Ok… the official figure is 400k… no one else seems to have issues with that as long as the account has not dipped below in the seasoning period - no need for more than that regardless of what the officers at the Nonhtaburi immi office suggest. One would be curious as to why they have targeted you with exaggerated requirements.
  19. 1MB ????? The requirements are very specific 400,000 baht seasoned for not less than 2 months…, Thats it…. Not sure why your experience is so ‘wrong’…
  20. Indeed… this is simply deflection from the Police failing to do their jobs… … that also means dining rental shops for renting out motorcycles to those without licenses.
  21. Weren’t they already told that those renting must have a license ??? …, I know, I know…. This is Thailand… the obvious solution is impossible when the police are so lazy to do the obvious.
  22. A few perspectives on this one.. - Over 100 Kuwaiti men.. that’s some bachelor party !! - on motorcycles.. fitting the stereotype & racing ? - Some of the rescue services are a far cry from the ambulance service a we know it, I’d watch with extreme care & also intervene if I thought my friend was being handled poorly after an accident. Then of course there is the cultural aspect & mob mentality… back to 100 guys ragging it up & down the street at 4am…. Police anywhere to be seem? (Response to LL in advance, I know it wasn’t reported they were racing, but….. we know they likely were).
  23. If I’m not mistaken, when applying for a Non-Immigrant type O visa you only need no show the balance.., BUT, when processing the extension of stay’ later on, that 400k baht needs to have been seasoned for at least 2 months without dropping below that level.
  24. With a name tag ????
  25. Quite... my comment was supporting yours rather than presenting any form of contradiction.
