  1. My Car is white (pearlescent white I think its called)... I agree with all of the points you write... The point I've been trying to get across is that the difference is negligible in a country like Thailand as you will need to put the AC on anyway and modern AC's are very good... It matters more where you park, what tint is on the windows etc than the colour of the car - it also makes a bigger difference if you have a large sun-roof or moonroof. As for visibility... Yes lighter is more visible than darker, but again the difference is negligible because all cars have lights, and whether dark or light colour a dark coloured with lights on is more visible than a white coloured car with lights on. Thus: temperature differential and / or low light visibility is not really a great consideration when choosing a car - I've had both dark and light cars and I don't consider there was any notable difference.
  2. @BritManToo - how is your recovery coming along ?
  3. I use a Windows at Work (Dell and an HP).. and use Apple MacBook at home. I never have an issue with anything on the Mac.... Yet both windows machines crash regularly. Having used both for years Mac just simply works better... But, a Mac is no good if you are the type of person who digs into the nuts and bolts of operating system - then Linux is probably better (not that I know much about that OS).
  4. The Fingerprint scanner can be a little dodgy... I had this glitch with the Macbook Air M2 (the finger prints scanner is the same as the pro). It took me days to work out what was going on, the finger print scanner was not working properly. I accidentally found out that it worked perfectly when the laptop was not charging. The issue turned out to be using a 3rd party USB-C charger and this generated enough of an electrical field to interfere with the way the scanner functions. With the original (Apple) plug / charger and cable it all worked fine. Thus: Use original chargers because there is a difference.
  5. Is it not risky to have a tyre on a motorcycle thats not 100% intact ???...
  6. Some people lack the intelligence to deal with each post on its own merits and they resort trolling others with the confused or sad emoji just because they don't like other posters - I agree it would be good to know who these idiot trolls are. I see this happening to other posters, they make valid points over a series of posts and some tool is trolling them by posting a 'confused' emoji against all of their posts (its often obvious who the troll is in such situations). At least posters such as Watchit are adult enough to address their opinion directly rather than hiding behind an anonymous emoji. I find myself disagreeing with some certain posters comments quite regularly, but the same posters also often makes some good comments which I like and thus give the thumbs up to.
  7. Its certainly a safer option... One of the 'good decisions' I made when I first arrived here was to get a car rather than a bike... This helped me learn the complete unpredictability of traffic around me such that when I did get a bike I was instinctively aware that anything can and does unfold around you.... Having a car first, certainly made riding a motorbike safer a few years later.
  8. It seems you are suggesting that Tuk-Tuks don't get stuck in traffic which is quite wrong, they are subject to the same traffic as any other car. Additionally, why would the TukTuk drivers know short cuts the taxi's don't ? These 'short cuts' you talk of are known by most drivers so they too become gridlocked. Also, TukTuk drivers are known for being more dishonest and rip off merchants than the taxi drivers. If you prefer a TukTuk to a regular taxi thats perfectly fine of course, but the reasoning you present seems rather flawed.
  9. You have proof that you paid the broker. You have proof that you used the broker recommended to you by the Insurance company. The way I see this is that the insurance company is responsible for their mistake in approving a fraudulent broker and should be honouring your transaction. Sheryl has good information 'for all things medical' and will be able to point you in the direction of the insurance ombudsman where you can lodge a complaint. The issue of course is that you need continued insurance cover for your sister that includes the pre-existing condition and you need confirmation of this now, I'd be very forceful with the insurance company and push to speak to someone higher up.
  10. I have held an SCB account for decades... he's two reasons why I wouldn't bother with them now (and will make move to another bank). 1) No internet Banking (they shut that down this year). 2) No option for the 'face recognition' for foreigners, so we can't transfer more than 50,000 baht at a time (unless we sign a 'risk waver').
  11. Daft comment… I could fall off tomorrow, however, in well over a decade of riding here I haven’t… so, telling the op he’s definitely going to fall off is something that’s impossible to predict. Safety gear, yes.. that’s a solid point / ATGATT…
  12. This is turning into a ridiculous d!ck contest about who has better riding knowledge… when coming to a stop or slowing to a near stop you need to use your clutch… An auto is just easier in heavy traffic…
  13. Spotify premium & download what you want…
  14. Those outfits are the 'meet n greet' outfits - the TG FA's change into more practical outfits shortly after take off and again back into the dresses shortly before landing.
  15. I didn't notice the sarcasm... its not so easy to spot on anonymous forums (especially without emoticons etc).
  16. Any pooled or standing water (which isn't treated with chlorine etc) can provide a breeding ground for Mosquitos. Thus, if an unused washing machine has water in it (with no detergent etc) then it could be an ideal breeding ground... If no water, then not.
  17. Who cares ?.... will knowing whether the overstay was accidental or not change the advice ?
  18. The degree of 'whateifery' in the above comment is ridiculous...
  19. Not at all and a very good idea. I never take my pp out. I do have a photocopy of my ID page on cell and that would suffice. The OP is trying to get to airport that's it. Claiming to not have pp on him would avoid the issue. Ignore him... he's a waste of space just continuing to troll after he was called out for trolling the op in his first irrelevant response. As you correctly pointed out Jack... most people do not carry their passport around with them anyway, so IF on the very rare occasion someone does ask for ID the Ops friend can show a photo copy of the ID page.
  20. I think that was a story a couple of Months ago and it occurred in Phuket. The most common response from posters on this forum was that there must have been more to the story because people just don't get arrested and thrown in IDC when they have the fine and have checked in for a an international flight.
  21. I used the Female toilets at a large international school (at the weekend) during an international football tournament. The mens toilets were in a horrific state, water everywhere and mud from the football boots etc... messy. So, I popped (no pun, note the singe 'o') into the ladies figuring its 99% men there anyway, so what are the odds of a 'gender clash' in the loo?... As I stepped out of the stall a Western lady gave me a 'dirty look', so I turned it around and told her she was in the mens toilet... then overtly checked the door on my way out, then feigning horror and apologised adding.. "thats embarrassing !!" - fortunately she wasn't a 'Woke Aussie Karen' and smiled... In reality, its not a big deal at all and more civilised cultures (and restaurants) have 'shared bathrooms'..... no issue at all, except for females getting upset that men have pee'd on the seat, which is a valid complaint IMO.
  22. One of the worst things about riding a motorcycle in Bangkok is the heat. Sometimes the convenience of being able to 'split traffic' is offset by the heat, getting too hot and sweaty etc. Using a TukTuk seems to combine both the inconvenience of getting stuck in heavy traffic and the discomfort of being exposed to the elements and heat !!... Although, obviously a TukTuk is safer than a bike as its 'harder to fall off'.... But, the same convenience can be achieved with a regular taxi and that comes with AC !!...
  23. Thanks for the lesson - It would be impressive to see you riding down Sukhumvit road at 5pm on a Friday and not using the clutch on a non-auto bike !!!... You seem to be sticking to your 'interpretation of feathering the clutch'... Maybe your interoperation of that phrase is correct, however, I've explained what I meant - When coming to a stop, or very close to a stop we have to engage the clutch to prevent the bike from stalling... in heavy stop-start traffic the clutch has to be depressed multiple times. I have not found a manual bike that does't stall when stopped in gear without the clutch engaged. What I mean by feathering the clutch is to engage the clutch when coming to a stop & sometimes just as we are about to stop, before putting down a foot the traffic may move, in which case we disengage the clutch beyond biting point with some revs to re-engage drive to the wheels... Its exactly the same for a car as it is for a bike and doesn't require any special 'biker understanding' to know this. When driving a 'geared car' in Bangkok stop-start traffic clutch use becomes tedious. Exactly the same can be said for using a non-auto geared motorcycle, hence my comment that a 'feathering the clutch' (i.e. the constant use of the clutch) when ridding in stop start traffic quickly wears very thin.
  24. That's a good thinking. If the guy can make it to Bangkok and assume flying out of BKK then rail link to airport would be my suggestion. Indeed - If the Op's 'friend' is outside of Bangkok the issue becomes slightly more complex with risks of passport checks... - In that case, it'd be worth hiding the passport and having a copy of the ID page to show just incase. - If within Bangkok the options are much simpler - the less 'exposure' to 'outside' the better IMO - AOT Taxi / GrabCar direct to Airport. In reality the risk of a Policeman stopping the Op, asking for the Passport and also checking visa status is extremely rare and highly unlikely.
