  1. Agreed... and conversely so.. If a foreigner has good money and a good job here, then paying for a top tier international school will give the Child a greater opportunity than placing them in a standard school back home (i.e. UK comprehensive). There is the language issue: - Studying at an international school does not help a child's Thai. - If the child wants a future in Thailand they have to learn extra curricular Thai. There is also university issue (costs): - Firstly a family (child) has to be in the UK for 3 years to secure UK uni fees. - The costs can be anywhere from £20,000 to £35,000 more per year than the standard ±£10,000 for resident UK students. - But, also, IF a child wanted to study medicine with the aim of becoming a Doctor in Thailand, they'd have to study their medical degree here (then perhaps study a masters overseas) - the same for legal services (lawyer) or Dentistry etc.
  2. Erm... boasting about being at a function... very strange. Also flawed logic, a lot more than 250 people contribute to this forum. You are just side stepping the reality that you are wrong and using some extremely flawed and bizare logic to justify something... I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve with that comment - its hilariously juxtaposed from the thread.
  3. You are criticising someone using this forum for using this forum while you are using this forum ???? Way to go... some quality grade A1 halfwittery right there !!!... And... you are still wrong !!!
  4. Obviously you and your mate dont have the language skills to ring up and ask a basic question. So you try to tear me down. Oh dear.... talking of language skills - Can't you read basic English ??? I already have the Thai MC licence from a UK DL. Why would I need to ring anyone up about this ? - Its been done, I've done it, as have others... You are simply wrong.
  5. This... We don't read or hear it enough... The manufacture of both new ICE's and EV's is energy intensive and polluting. EV's more so than ICE vehicles such that at point zero (zero kms travelled) the EV has some distance to travel to bring it into 'carbon foot print' parity with ICE's and this can take years, 8 years or more for extended range vehicles with larger batteries.... thats just carbon-footprint and doesn't include the air and groundwater pollution from Lithium and cobalt mining (although battery tech is turning more towards LiFePO4 batters (which don't have cobalt). That said, I like EV's... I don't think they are more environmentally friendly, but I wouldn't chose one for those purposes, I'd chose one because some of them are better cars. I like this bike, it looks fun and ticks a lot of good boxes, though it misses out on a lot of issues - the superbike performance blurb is comical, its a very very very far cry from anything that comes close to superbike.... zippy scooter is perhaps a better description. The range is not going to bother those who use their bike for regular 10-30km commutes etc, but its certainly going to stop a lot of people and while I believe range anxiety is more of a psychological factor than a real factor when it comes to car EV's... this limited 60km range would give me pause for thought. The reason I stepped down from a 'real motorcycle' to a scooter type motorcycle in Bangkok was primarily storage, scooters are just so convenient and this EV motorcycle, with no storage is not. The price - forget it.
  6. Could the Son be arguing with his Mum about the Op ?? After reading the below comments from the Op, I would do anything in my power to keep anyone I care about away from such a pest. You sound like a good catch.......................????.......................????
  7. Absolutely.... I fully expected him to be in the comfort of his home by now... .. of course, at home so he can receive 24 hour private medical care for his rare condition so as not to disturb other patients in a hospital.
  8. Nah, probably huge like mine. Use it or lose it Also in the middle of his forehead ?
  9. He's an utter troll and deliberately mudding the waters with mindless misinformation. I've no idea what drives such fools. As already advised... Your friend stands a good chance of being able to obtain a Thai MC licence with his British Driving Licence (if it has the motorcycle silhouettes on it) he should at least give it a try - This is first hand experience and something I have successfully achieved myself.
  10. Would you suggesting that I am lying ????
  11. 1) Goat has phoned up and been told 'cannot'. 2) Myself and other Posters have successfully obtained a Thai MC Licence with a UK DL. Pretty simply really... rather pathetic and idiotic to argue in the face of actual first hand experience.
  12. It doesn't make sense in Thailand - those answering the phones don't know and will give you any answer they can think of or simply say 'cannot'.... That said, it makes sense to you... because perhaps you are naive and have never been given the run around by people who cannot admit they do not know. Wrong... you're making a fool of yourself again. People already answered the question that this is something the Ops friend can do, because those answering the questions have successfully achieved the desired outcome. You're making a fool of yourself again. Why would he need to call ????.... the question has been answered already. YES, he should be able to get a Thai MC licence with his UK Driving licence - its been done successfully enough times by enough forum members that it is work giving it a try.
  13. Agreed.. that also applies for the English language too... As simply as I can put it... I have received a Thai MC licence based on the lower class (i.3. 50cc MC endorsements on my UK Driving licence. So, even though you have been told over the phone that you 'cannot'... the reality is, I've done it, as have others. And that indicates to me that you have not been here for very long - I'm friends with numbers of people in positions of beurocratic and legal authority and they do not know all the rules. IF you think every Thai who works in the DLT is going know the answer to all the questions they are asked, then you are not very observant. You may well have received the standard 'go to response' for many Thai's when they don't know an answer to a question. Agreed... but this isn't about being able to ask a question, this thread is about 'knowing' whether Trans' friend can get a Thai MC licence with his current UK Driving licence. You have called up and the DLT has said no. I have been there and done it for myself - So, you are wrong !!!!
  14. The answer in incorrect. I have proven so with my own experience of receiving a Thai MC licence with a British DL with the A1, A2, AM, A 79(3) endorsements that I believe Trans' friend also has. ------- Actually, its not the correct limit for the 50cc MC endorsement on a normal UK licence, but thats as good any any description as we're basically referring to 'moped style' bikes which have very low power. Category AM 2-wheeled or 3-wheeled vehicles with a maximum design speed of over 25km/h (15.5mph) but not more than 45km/h (28mph). This category also includes light quad bikes with: unladen mass of not more than 350kg (not including batteries if it’s an electric vehicle) maximum design speed of over 25km/h (15.5mph) but not more than 45km/h (28mph) Motorcycles Category A1 Engine size up to 125cc Power output of up to 11kW Power to weight ratio not more than 0.1kW/kg This category also includes motor tricycles with power output up to 15kW. Category A2 Power output up to 35kW Power to weight ratio not more than 0.2kW/kg The motorbike must also not be derived from a vehicle of more than double its power. You can also drive motorbikes in category A1. Category A 79 (3) Restricted to Trikes with a power output more than 15kW or a power to weight ratio more than 0.2kW/kg
  15. It would be rather naive to think you are going to get anything close to a correct answer from a call. The Op's friend should be able to get a Thai Motorcycle Licence with his UK license because the officers at the DLT are unlikely to be able to distinguish the endorsements and they simply see a silhouette of a motorcycle and thats good enough for them (usually). I have received a Thai Motorcycle licence after presenting my UK Car licence (with the 50cc scooter / motorcycle endorsement).
  16. yes .... the nerve of some falang is beyond belief Richard, fancy expecting an employee in a 7-11 shop to understand a scrap of English. Lol There it is... The arrogance !!!.... no wonder your attitudes towards Thai's is so negative (as exampled on other threads too)... You reap what you sow, if you are not respectful of those with whom you interact, you will not receive a respectful response... ... 'sometimes they'll just walk away, or waves the hands without an answer.'...... I wonder what causes that ???... could it be yet 'Another arrogant Farang' ??
  17. I think they had a large advertising board up in front of them so I didn't see them. The second member of staff understood the question no issues, no complaints from me. The first member of staff was simply not very sharp and didn't catch my Thai. Battery is the same word in English and Thai BTW !!!... (just different intonation). Sometimes people are just switched off... not an issue. No need to get upset or complain etc they work long hours and get tired. It's not the first time when talking with Thai's in Thai and it takes a moment for them to realise I'm not talking in English - Some folk are smarter / sharper than others and that is evident in many different interactions. Some guys get upset so easily and very minor simple stuff - it could be argued they are not very smart or sharp if allowing such minor stuff to rub them up the wrong way.
  18. I know that was aimed at steven100. I asked for batteries... the girl at the 7-11 counter had no idea what I was talking of. I asked again and still received the 100 yard stare, the girl at the counter was a like a rabbit in the headlights. I asked a different member of staff who pointed out the batteries. First staff member was probably frightened by foreigners and just froze, then panicked and didn't realise I was speaking Thai (eyes couldn't believe the ears - which happens sometimes). No issues, but sometimes there needs to be interaction which is fine - but there is no need to be 'demanding' of the staff when things don't go our way.
  19. (some) 7-11 staff arrogant because they don't speak your language - thats hilarious. The behavior you describe seems more like exasperation than anything else... Another foreigner coming into the store and expecting to be understood - I can see why some just walk away thinking "What the F*** another one !!"... I imagine this could happen in areas with plenty of low class tourists and foreigners who do not know how to behave and do stupid things such as ask for a refund on a pack of bin-bags !!! Given some of the comments and highlighted sense of entitlement on this thread, I too would just ignore some people... Dealing with the general public on a daily basis has to be challenging, some of the folk on this thread (forum) highlight extremely well how challenging this can be. Its always seems to be the same guys who have these problems, yet they are unable to recognise their own contribution to such issues.
  20. A good topic for a thread... Also, what happened to the foreigners in so many other stories published on here in which there is loads of online interest and discussion yet zero followup whatsoever?
  21. Do you have any idea how your comments highlight that it is you who is the source of any such problem you face. 7-11 staff arrogant, verbally abusive, uneducated and downright rude with no clue how to act when asked a simple question ??? REALLY ???? OF course you are asking in perfect Thai right... because you are not arrogant, uneducated and downright rude enough to ask in English and expect a perfect response, correct ???
  22. Very odd thread... When it comes to customer service experience encounters in Thailand certainly differ from the treatment many of us are familiar with in the West. However, in this example of the Op the expectations are plain strange. Its like buying a packet of crisps or a can of coke from a corner shop and the next day trying to return the item. Sometimes the Westerners telling these tales are just outright 'odd'...
  23. You were an EMT so only you have the right to discuss vehicular accidents ? - your comments certainly read like that. Does that mean if someone is caught for drug smuggling you are not permitted to comment because you were never a drugs enforcement or customs officer ?
  24. Doesn't beef bourguignon take about 3 hours anyway ??? I've never cooked it, but my Wife is an excellent cook and her Western food is better than her Thai food IMO, probably because she follows the Western recipes to a T, conversely, she somewhat 'wings it' with Thai food; after all, she is Thai so she automatically knows how to cook Thai food so does things 'her way' !... sometimes excellent, sometimes average. & On that note, I used to challenger her with more complex dishes, I figured bourguignon was going to be tough... She took up the challenge, but it was expensive (she had to go out and get the ingredients and also some Brandy !!)... 4 hours later this had utterly back-fired on me, I was ravenous after waiting so long and it cost us a small fortune !!! Her beef wellington is something else. But, for whatever reason I do the 'curries'.... Is there some 'man logic' as there is with BBQ'ing ?? i.e. when the guy steps up because for some unexplained reason BBQ'ing is the guys job !!!... And, for some reason it feels that way when making a curry too.... Also weirdly, cocktails... when I make a decent cocktail, Old Fashioned, Negroni, Espresso Martini etc I am the one who does it as it mans job !!! No photo's sorry.
  25. Thais have a pretty good memory, especially when it comes to money. If you're just a 2 week tourist, then no problem, but if you live here, you may want to be more considerate. More considerate of what ???.... its a taxi / moto-taxi... they've agreed to be on Bolt / Grab. The drivers can see its a Card payment, its the same for Bolt & Grab. If a driver is getting upset because a 'paying customer' is using a card through the App, then the driver is just a tool. I've been using Grab with a card for a few years, recently with Bolt - never an issue with the driver. The issue is getting a driver in the first place.... even more difficult with Bolt.
