Agreed.. I’d want to see Foden and Grealish on at the same time... see them linking up and attacking. We were flat and sterile against the US... very ‘careful’ tactics nearly cost us dearly with the US pressing very hard very quickly, they countered very well - we were lucky to come out of the game with a draw. I hate to see England playing such boring, hesitant, unfolding football. As soon as Grealish game on we were far more fluid in attack - he drew players, drew fouls... Foden would do the same.... IMO - Foden is the best player in the England side - I’m really not sure why he isn’t starting. It was good to see Maguire play well after the year of horrific medial bullying he has faced - I hope that has done his confidence the world of good.

The cynic in me suggests nothing will change.... Some of the taxi’s around Bangkok are new, clean and in great condition, but there are a lot which aren’t... many probably older ones such as this. To avoid all this nonsense I use Grab as much as possible, but when flagging down a taxi on the street I ignore the older taxis.. Sometimes I get in taxi’s and there are some dodgy noises etc grinding brakes, clunks and punches from the suspension - if going on an expressway or a faster road I make an excuse and get out, the same if they have no functioning seatbelt.

Valid point - whenever I have travelled within Thailand I always carry my passport with me - its at hand if asked for, but its locked in a travel-wallet with cash and backup credit card etc - its just easier to present ‘a card from the wallet in my pocket’... thats all... In a hotel, the passport stays in the ’travel wallet’ which stays locked in my bag... there’s always a risk of theft I suppose, but as you mentioned... we can over think these things. As far as hotels etc are concern the passport / ID card etc is not an issue - I just don’t want to be carrying my passport with me when out and about - thats all. I think many feel the same.

Thailand going cashless. Are you for or against it?
richard_smith237 replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
What were you searching for on Market Place ???? -
I always figured the hotels would need a Passport so they can file the TM30.. This past year, every hotel I’ve checked into over Thailand, I’ve done so with the Pink ID - they never asked for the passport, thus, I figure, they only file a TM30 if we check-in with a passport, and if we don’t its less work for them !... [not lodges or back packer places but - decent resorts - So Sofitel, Marriotts etc] Thus, as you pointed out h&s - its seems any ID will do.

Luck of the draw... That same person who can’t get their App ready before payment is due is the same person who digs through their bag for their purse / wallet, then takes time digging out the right change.... That same person is the one who walks up to their door and only then starts to look for their house key etc etc... I think you get my point - slow people are slow people... Some are obviously slower to adapt than others. For me, cashless with a QR code, True Pay, Line Pay or Prompt Pay (in Thailand) is quickest way to go - the only issue is working out which vendor uses which payment system. Local fresh markets etc... some have a QR code already on a small sign... others are happy to hold up their phone with their QR code... obviously cash is still used the most. -
Health benefits by quitting Coffee?
richard_smith237 replied to Hummin's topic in Health and Medicine
to be fair... If I’m so knackered that I’m capable of taking a nap in the car (in a lay-by or car park), I should not be driving at all or anywhere near the open road !!!... But... on a long journey... a coffee can add a little ‘pep-me-up’... as does a stopping off for 15 mins etc.. -

I fully understand my humour... just not yours. ???? - You’ve pulled the trigger too early.... read again... the comment and explanation was not aimed at you. Look at the post quoted, which I was responding to... (the poster by the name of ‘in full agreement’) - who’d misunderstood ‘humour’ part of my explanation of your comment. -

Food delivery rider crushed to death by a truck in Chonburi
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
No.. I used ‘we’ in the original comment you failed to understand. Thus, its best you don’t go down that road and argue the meaning of ’seen’ in this context... because you clearly do not understand. ‘We’ve seen it time and time again’ - means its happened time and time again... IF you don’t understand that context, thats on you, your misunderstanding for missing the nuance of the language used and taking the phrase very literally... I’ve no issues with anyone misunderstanding because English is nuanced and complicated - I’m happy to explain... but, if you want to argue the meaning of the language I have used you are doing so from a position of misunderstanding - its ok to accept you made a mistake and jump to the wrong conclusion in your haste to throw criticism... -

How did you manage that, he only scored 17. As much as you like to think so Richard, you can't be right and know everything all of the time. Was just a guess... I think in your eagerness to argue the comment you missed the point of the comment.... -

But most developed countries do not have the most common mode of transport as motorbikes, i think that comparison would not be accurate. Agreed... its a difficult one to call and can only be measured by a comparison of ‘motorcycle KMs’ ridden per-accident... For example: UK 2020 Cars were driven 209.6 Billion vehicle miles - There were 669 deaths in cars. Motorcyclists rode 2.5252 Billion vehicle miles - There were 291 deaths on motorcycles. Cars - 313.303 Million Miles per death Motorcycles - 8.64 Million Miles per death Motorcycles 36x more deadly than cars in the UK... But if you ride 10,000 miles per year you’d need to ride 863 years before facing death (statistically that is). ------------- Thailand doesnt seem to collect stats at this detail - it would be an interesting comparison to draw. How many deadly accidents per motorcycle mile / KM are there in Thailand ?? It would also be worth comparing for cars too... -
Read this forum.... all the questions asking for agents etc So many forum members themselves are also doing the same thing and ‘buying themselves’ a way around the immigration rules... And... IF Thai Elite is not ‘exactly buying our way around immigration rules’ then... Don’t hate the player, hate the game !!! - Immigration, want things exactly this way - its how they make some money !!...

Polish motorbike rider dies after colliding with a taxi in Kamala
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
They certainly present an elevated degree of risk.... they do in any country. In Thailand we can significantly reduce the risk and place ourselves in a situation where the bulk stats don’t apply to us by adopting to the following: 1) Not riding in the wet 2) Not riding at night 3) Never riding when drunk / after drinking 4) Never speeding 5) Defensive riding 6) Never assume the car will not pull out etc 7) Never assume we’ve been seen etc 8 ) always wear a good helmet 9) Wear decent gear *where practical *where practical - going to a 7-11, ok, perhaps no need for a jacket and riding pants etc.. but if going for a 1 hr ride somewhere etc... gear up. -

What humor do you find in this man's motorbike death? Are you in cahoots with Gottfrid ??? Misunderstanding the comment then throwing criticism highlighting that misunderstand while remaining completely unaware !!.. I’ll explain as this is your ‘first time’ but after that you’re on your own and will just have to try a little harder and not jump to dumb conclusions... ... In his first post on this thread, Gottfrid asked a lot of seemingly unrelated and irrelevant questions... not sure what was going through his mind, I tried to decipher some sense from his comments but drew a blanc when asking what he meant giving examples of what he could have meant... Another poster; hot chilli, ridiculed the pointlessness of his [Gottfrid’s] comments by responding and asking an equally inane, irrelevant and pointless question of Gottfrid.... ‘do you want his shoe size too ?’.... But also added - 'asking for a friend’ (imaginary).. because he [hotchilli] is not stupid enough to ask such a dumb question himself, ergo, the ‘humour part’.... Thus: The humour part was in ridicule of Gottfrid’s comment and not aimed at all to the incident itself where a motorcyclist has died. Thus: While stubbing your toe in attempting to climb and claim the moral high ground your virtue signalling has simply served to highlight that sadly your teachers may have failed you in key areas of reading comprehension.... Do you want his shoe size too Asking for friend -
Yeah... you’ve said this before... and called BS (on me) when I’ve mentioned that the BiB have asked me for my passport (on more than one occasion)... Thus, when you mention ‘for this that claim’ with the implication they are lying you are wrong - they are ‘stating a fact’ something they (we) have experienced first hand - it happens, although very infrequently. Now... what I suspect the BiB really mean when they ask for a Passport is ID... they just use the term Passport as its more general... most of the time they accept any ID (driving licence etc, even home country ID or Driving licences etc)... even a library card !! - the simple act of compliance is usually enough and they don’t want to lose face by showing they don’t understand what they are looking at. BUT.. there have also been rare situations when the BiB only want a Passport... and look for ‘trouble’ (or a bribe) as used to happen in the Asoke area (and happened to me and reported by others over the years)... Carrying a physical copy of your passport or / and copies on your phone is not going to hurt anyone and takes next to no effort.

Foreign tourist rescued from drowning at Kata Beach

Yeah, swimming in unruly waters and can´t handle it. What do you call that. Stupid or not knowing your limits? Oh dear... going for a swim and having a cramp, getting caught out by a wave etc can happen to anyone... even lifeguards can get into trouble in open water.... Its clear there is a lot you do not understand with your ridiculous sweeping statements which only serve to highlight your aim to ‘blame the foreigner’ no matter how innocent they are of any wrongdoing. You’v made no comment of the foreigners who helped out... why is that ?... because you can’t find a negative angle against them too ??? You’re weird... your comments are so non-sensical... -

You have taken the comment literally, thats OK, its an understandable mistake as english is not your first language... but try not to be cute... you’re too far off the mark and not sharp enough. Observed on / in the news... read in the news... = 'we’ve seen’.... We’ve seen Harry Kane score 26 premier league goals last season... it doesnt mean I’ve seen each individual goal in person.... -

Interesting question.... clearly the high numbers of road accidents in Thailand are a result of the high numbers of motorcyclists in Thailand... We’d need to work out the number of motorcyclists and number of motorcycle KM’s ridden... and then incidents of ‘crushed head’ per motorcycle KM’s ridden to secure and accurate statistic. Thats going to be pretty difficult to achieve... So, all I have to go by is this ‘crushed by a truck’ news is not wholly uncommon in Thailand... I’d hazard a guess and suggest that this incidence occurs proportionately more in thailand than it does in the developed nations with safer roads, better rider training etc... but when getting down to specific gory incidents such as this its difficult to prove without factual data. I’m sure it also happens elsewhere - but it seems to happen a lot here as a high or low % compared to other area’s - thats too difficult to tell with any accuracy. -

As usual, it is your comment which is distorted and weird which is why its been so easy to flag it with further comment... I already presented my thoughts - This was someone going for a swim.. could have had cramp for all we know. i.e. we don’t know what happened... but your post stating that ’The Thai’s are laughing at us’... is just downright strange.... as if you really have some issues comprehending the world around you and make these extremely bizarre, strange, weird and outlandish assumptions... ... Do you really think all the Thai’s are laughing at us ???... And not too busy getting on with their own lives not to really give even so much as a passing thought ? Perhaps you think the Thai’s laugh at us so much because you think they laugh at you ?? -

Nah, already have that. However, your post is strange. You say that you ask for a friend, but at the same time point your question at me. Do you want your friend to answer? You need to look inward at yourself and your comments - the reason you are getting these responses is because it is YOUR post which is strange.... ...‘the asking for a friend part’ was clearly just to add some humour - you may not have understood that.
