  1. Just for info. I got the first shot of Shingrix in BC, Canada, CAD$165. Side effect for me & my wife were pain at injection site for 5 days, mild flu type symptoms for 2 days, no big deal but better to plan a couple of days rest after the shot. 2nd shot in 2-6 months time.
  2. Thanks Sheryl, that answers my question.
  3. Has anyone received or tried to get the shingles vaccine Shingrix (recombinant zoster vaccine) in CM ? Any info gratefully received.
  4. Don't forget that not so long ago this type of treatment was very common in the residential school system in Canada & most western countries have had their share of child welfare abuse.
  5. Some Thai hospitals have a living will form, I think it was Bangkok International hospital on the super Hi-way that I got one from. My friend gave a verbal living will to a Doctor & Nurse at McKeen hospital, they honoured his wishes perfectly despite some objections from his wife. I highly recommend McKeen hospital for anyone who's time is drawing near.
  6. I cant recommend a repair shop. But, have you tried cleaning out the charging port on the phone ? I have had similar problems with a couple of Samsungs. Turn off the phone & remove the battery. Get a pin or needle & scratch around inside the charging port of the phone, I have found that fluff, sawdust etc gets jammed into the far end of the port by the charging cable, eventually preventing the plug inserting fully.
  7. Has anyone had Bi-Focals made in Chiang Mai recently ? If so where ? Thanks
  8. I agree with Dr Treelove. I'll add: Kidney beans, for drying & storage. The local pumkins, kind of flat with very knobly skin, stores well. Tomatoes, Okra, Rocket/Arugala, lettuce Winged beans (slow to start but you end up with a huge long producing vine. I recommend using local seeds, I tried imported seeds with no real success. East West is a good seed brand. Many veg are best planted in late rainy season to mature during the cooler drier weather. Good luck !

My understanding is that there is aways a mark up.
  10. My friend stayed at McKean about 3 years ago, he also received some Physio there, I was with him to assist. My impression at that time was that it did not have much in the way of high tech gadgets, but the staff were excellant. Realy the only way to find out if it meets your needs is to pay them a visit.
  11. Pronto, what was the approx price for both eyes ? Was it a day surgery & back home ?
  12. The vast majority of rice is grown using fertiliser. Fertiliser prices have increased dramaticly. Fuel prices for farm machinery & transport have increased. Of course rice prices have to go up or the farmers will be operating at a loss. If they operate at a loss they will stop growing rice.
  13. Pai, in the past got to popular for its own good & like someone already said, it got overcrowded with foreigners. With the down turn in tourism, now is probably a good time to visit, as long as your not looking for the party scene. Pai has something for everyone.
  14. Payom Clinic on the East side of the Moat is a one man band, he speaks very good English. However, I think he is limited to fairly minor treatments.
  15. My Bankok Bank ATM card worked fine overseas. I withdrew the max daily allowance until I had run down my balance. I never had enyone question it from either end. Make sure to call your Thai bank before you leave & make sure your card is set up for overseas withdrawals.
  16. I've never bought stock that large, but theres a couple of shops on Bumruang Rajd (Bamrung Rat) selling. Also, I got lathe work done at Jakon Diesel, I think they could get any stock you needed, very helpful people. They're on the East side of Thunghotel Rd, down one of the Soi's, somewhere between soi 5 & 7 I think.
  17. I believe birth certificates can issued by your local Ampur office. I would expect it to be easier at the Ampur that the birth was origionaly registered at. As with anything at Gov offices, a lot will depend on the specific person you are dealing with.
  18. I would say the Swan has the advantage with their location. Also the fact that they are open when so many places are closed !
  19. CM Mediclinic, fast, efficient & lower cost than many. Easy to find on google maps.
  20. From what I remember its about B100 per dish. So, more of a resturant than a Mom & Pop outfit.
  21. The Swan, on the ouside of the moat, North of Tapae Gate was open last time I was in town, if you need a Burmese food fix.
  22. Is the pink slip new ? I never saw one when I came into Thailand early Nov.
